Cricket Round Up - 19th July 2025
Division One:
Burton bag a vital victory despite Hardy’s heroic effort!
Burton 201 for 7 beat Neyland 197 for 8 by 3 wickets

On Thursday Ross Hardy hit a big six for the county team against the MCC but then was struck full in the face that required stitches to his eyebrow and the rapid appearance of a splendid black eye – but two days later he was back for Neyland at Oatfield Park and pushed down the order as Neyland struggled to 59 for 5 – where he was dropped on 26 but then blasted his way to a remarkable undefeated century which contained 19 fours and NINE SIXES!
Paul Murray and former Haverfordwest captain Danny Potter enjoyed cameos but a measure of Hardy’s dominance was the fact that he and last man Tom Pritchard added 102 runs, with Tom playing a key role for his 2 not out!
Johnnie Scale led the Burton attack as the 59 year old picked up three wickets as Jack Davies also bowled well 0 before Burton launched a strong counter-attack, led by skipper Toby Hayman, back to form with 69, supported by Dan Llewellyn and Jon Venables before Morgan Scale and Gavin Campbell were undefeated on the run-in to a deserved victory, despite Hardy’s heroic efforts.

Cresselly keep in front as Kyle leads the way
Lawrenny 131 all out lost to Cresselly 248 for 8 by 117 runs

Cresselly’s win at near-neighbours Lawrenny keeps them at the top of the table in what is now a two-horse race with neighbours Carew as Herbrandston are in third place ahead of Saundersfoot and Neyland – and it was a swashbuckling innings by Kyle Quartermaine that was a keynote feature as he belted 8 fours and two sixes, ably assisted by Phil Williams, Charlie Arthur and a few others just in double figures alongside 36 extras as Harry Thomas, Jamie Lewis and Ryan Morton took the bulk of the wickets.
Oscar Lewis batted well for Lawrenny and Wil Nicholas was again not out but Cresselly skipper Tom Arthur led the way for his team and there were two wickets for Christian Phillips but catching the eye was teenager Griff Jenkins as he shifted Joe Kidney, Rob Williams and Jamie Lewis in successive deliveries to claim a rare hat-trick at this level to help his team win by well over 100 runs!

Oscar Lewis 413, Wil Nicholas 31*, Harry Thomas 16, Extras 19

Herbrandston were comfortable winners at The Racecourse in beating Haverfordwest by over 100 runs and a third-place in the table for Robbie Hood’s Herbie Boy, whilst The Town are lingering in ninth place after fellow relegation candidates Whitland and Burton both won to open up a 20+ point advantage.
Charlie Malloy again topped the Herbie batting, followed by Nathan Banner, Morgan Britton and Dean John as Jake Merry grabbed five wickets for Haverfordwest after appearing as No 6 bowler for his club.
Nikhil Mathias batted well for the homesters but only Merry and Will Phillips managed double figures as Banner grabbed four wickets and there were two apiece for Dean John and Harry Nicholas, as Malloy, skipper Hood and Dillon Lewis also bowled well.

Llangwm struggle but battle it through
Carew 289 for 8 (dec) beat Llangwm 64 all out by 225 runs
Carew maintained their quest for the silverware with this resounding win over basement battlers Llangwm, who continued their struggle and deserve massive credit for battling on in such adversity.
On this occasion Carew decided to bat first and built up a huge tally as Tim Hicks opened with another century, this time including 10 fours and seven sixes, with Noah Davies reaching 100 not out (14 fours and two sixes)in the closing stages before they declared after 36.3 overs, with Johnnie Palmer taking four wickets for Llangwm.
Danny Chesmer batted well when Llangwm batted but after Iori Hicks and James Hinchliffe started out the main strike force for The Rooks was Noah Davies, who took six wickets in only three overs as Carew maintained the pressure on Cresselly on the run-in to the destiny of the title.

Geraint’s big hitting sets up vital Whitland win
Whitland 259 for 5 beat Saundersfoot 253 for 4 by 5 wickets

Geraint Jones was the toast of his Whitland team mates as his splendid batting launched them to a vital victory over high-flying Saundersfoot, who had built a substantial score before he joined Ed John in a counter-attack.
John Mansbridge and Nick Cope were the main scorers as The Seasiders also had useful knocks by Tom Mansbridge, Gareth Edwards and Louie Treadaway-Williams, the latter pair undefeated as Jonathan Thomas claimed two of the wickets to fall.
Ed Jaun gave the early impetus to Whitland with 12 boundaries in his half century before Geraint Jones took just 55 balls to score 108, including five fours and an amazing ELEVEN SIXES! Jonathan Thomas and Ethan Ryan also chipped in and The Borderers eased home with almost six overs to spare!

Division Two:
Tish take another step in the right direction
St Ishmaels 77 for 1 (20) beat Burton Seconds 76 all out (2) by 9 wickets

St Ishmaels still stay first in the race for a place in Division One as they entertained a Burton Seconds’ side which already appears to be heading in the other direction after this heavy defeat put them even more adrift of the tame above them.
Only Jack Evans, Aled Thomas and Dan Griffiths managed double figures as the Tish ‘spin twins’ Andrew Pawlett (five wickets) and Steve Williams caused problems and pace men Jonathan Pawlett and Brennan Devonald did the rest.
Tish lost an early wicket to Harry Owen but then Peter Bradshaw played the anchor role with the batting and skipper Jonathan Pawlett speedily to his team to maximum points, reaching his personal half century and the winning total with a typical big six.
St Ishmaels Innings:
Peter Bradshaw 17*, Jonathan Pawlett 50 not out
Harry Owen 1-13
Burton Seconds’ Innings:
Aled Thomas 17, Dan Griffiths 16*
Brennan Devonald 3-16, Jonathan Pawlett 1-3, Andrew Pawlett 5-25, Steve Williams 1-18
Jamie jolts Johnston as Narberth stay in contention
Narberth 235 for 8 (20) beat Johnston 164 all out (9) by 71 runs

Narberth stay firmly in second spot after they comfortably quashed a Johnston side who on their day can beat anyone in the section – with a second-wicket stand of 132 by Jamie McCormack and Rhodri Dyer a major factor as they set a big challenge, with McCormack just short of a century and Dyer supporting well with a neat 50.
There were also cameos by Lewis Hough, Shay Norcross,, Harry Phillips, Kyle and Ryan Williams as Nick Davies and Keegan Codd were the pick of Johnston’s bowling – but only Lee Summons stayed long for the ‘Glebelands Gang’, with some support from Lewis Boswell and Gino Cleal – but Loui Davies claimed three wickets for Narberth and there were two apiece for Ryan Williams, Lewis Jones and Matthew Johns to keep them in a challenging spot just seven points behind the leaders.

Hook squeeze home by a single run
Pembroke 157 for 9 (10) lost to Hook 158 all out (19) by 1 run

There was high drama at Treleet as the battle between the third and fourth teams saw fortunes ebb and flow before visitors Hook edged home as Pembroke just failed in a brave attempt to score 16 runs from the final over, where Sam Davies gave them a chance with boundary that needed another to win – but he and George Morgan could only manage a two and so are now needing something special to gain promotion.
Hook’s total was built on steady knocks by Rhys and Own Phelps, George James and Brennan Martin but no-one was able to take the game by the scruff of the neck against Ceri Brace, young spinner George Morgan and co so their final total was reasonable but not decisive.
Then Brace, Phil Hay, skipper Jack Harries and Morgan did the same against Jack Phillips, Callum James, and especially Lewis Miller, who slowed Pembroke’s run-rate considerably as he conceded only four runs in EIGHT overs whilst taking an important wicket brace.
And so, it all came down to that final over and Pembroke might reflect that they lost impetus at key times – giving Hook that outside chance of a top-two place if either of those ahead lose a little form!
Pembroke Innings:
Ceri Brace 29, Phil Hay 24, Jack Harries 38, George Morgan 24*
Jack Phillips 3-17, Callum James 2-42, Lewis Miller 2-4, Brennan Martin 1-35
Hook Innings:
Rhys Phelps 28, Owen Phelps 33, George James 37, Brennan Martin 18
Callum Davies 1-16, Ceri Brace 4-22, Richard Pullman 1-21, George Morgan 3-19
Curran leads Llechryd to narrow win at Cresselly
Cresselly 2nds 216 for 9 (9) lost to Llechryd 229 for 9 (19) by 13 runs

John Curran has long been Llechryd’s main run gatherer and he was at it again in this high-scoring match at home to Cresselly Seconds, whose talented young players deserve credit for keeping their team involved before they ran out overs at the end.
Curran was joined by old-timer Kevin Evans, with a half century, plus Tom Lewis and Jamie Smith as Corey and Josh Lewis shared six wickets for Cresselly – whose talented teenagers Ollie Rowlands and Ollie Arthur topped their batting and Josh Lewis added important runs.
But Llechryd had the final word through Jamie Smith and Dafydd Davies, who shared seven wickets, four to Davies, as they won by 13 runs in an entertaining game where over 400 runs were scored!
Cresselly Innings:
Ollie Rowlands 66, Ollie Arthur 61, Josh Lewis 26
Jamie Smith 3-18, Dafydd Davies 4-66
Llechryd Innings:
John Curran 86, Kevin Evans 50, Tom Lewis 24, Jamie Smith 24

Llanrhian make it two wins in a row
Llanrhian 208 for 5 (18) beat Carew 2nds 172 for 7 (7) by 36 runs
Llanrhian’s victory over Carew Seconds was their second in succession and their battling spirit sees them still in ninth place but now having the teams above them, like their opponents here, within their sights.
Again, it was Jack Jones who led their batting with his high skill levels and ability to punish anything loose, with support from Russell Watkins, Paul Lewis and Llion Williams before Richard Read made a welcome return to action with a classy late knock that took them beyond the 200-mark as Corey Hall was the pick of the Carew bowlers.
Experienced batsman Ian Sefton led the Rooks’ Reserves’ response with a half century as Luke Hicks and Corey Hall supported, Hall in particular having a good all-round game, but Llion Williams did the same for Llanrhian, alongside a wicket apiece for their other bowlers – and suddenly there is hope at Llandigige Fawr!
Llanrhian Innings:
Russell Watkins 20, Paul Lewis 21, Jack Jones 79, Richard Read 48*, Llion Williams 28
Barry Evans 1-36, Corey Hall 3-36, George Waters 1-43
