Wizards, Swifts, Robins and Rooks all march into last four of Senior Cup

Merlins Bridge, Monkton Swifts, Pennar Robins and Carew all won and have marched into the semi-finals of the Senior Cup - and there were also three games played in the Manderwood Pembrokeshire Football League First Division on Saturday.

Merlins Bridge narrowly won 3-2 against holders Hakin United at the Racecourse. Richard Hughes headed home an early goal for the Wizards, but the Vikings hit back through a Nicky Woodrow equaliser, just before the break Nathan Greene struck to give the Wizards a slender 2-1 cushion at the interval. Mark Jones headed in an equaliser for the Vikings, but five minutes from time it was Greene who nodded in the crucial winner for the delighted Wizards.

Pennar Robins goalkeeper Stuart James cuts out a cross at Bush CampMonkton Swifts crushed St Clears 6-1 at Monkton Lane. Ben Steele and Dylan Davies both grabbed a brace alongside further goals by team-mates Chris Richards and Blake James. Ceri Phillips scored the Saints’ only goal of this fairly one-sided cup-tie.

Pennar Robins comfortably won 3-0 against Saundersfoot Sports at Bush Camp. Scoring for the Robins were Ben Adams from the spot, Luke Phillips and Sam Southcott who ensured a place in the last four for their team.

Second Division Solva was thrashed 1-7 at home against First Division Carew. Jordan Richards grabbed a superb hat-trick alongside further goals by Iwan Izzard, Scott Ferney, Shaun Whitfield and Lloyd Hughes. Solva’s solitary goal scorer was Josh Bland.

In the First Division, Goodwick United comfortably despatched of Clarbeston Road 4-1 at Phoenix Park to return to the top of the table. Scott Delaney 2, Matty Delaney and Kieron O’Brien netted for the homesters, and Ben ‘Rocky’ John scored a late consolation effort for the Road.

In the bottom of the table clash, Herbrandston drew 2-2 with derby rivals Milford United. Scott Reid scored twice to give Herbie a 2-0 interval lead. But the Robins struck back with important goals from Michael McCarthy and Harry Nicholas to secure a precious point for the visitors.

Narberth lost 1-3 at home against Neyland at Jesse Road. Brychan David netted the Bluebirds’ only goal, but the Nomads secured victory with a brace from Kieron Howells and a good strike by Ollie Hughes.
