When Haverfordwest County played their first JD Cymru Premier League football match of the season recently at Cardiff Met their social media posts on Twitter exceeded all expectations as they had an amazing 80,000 hits from football fans eager to find out what was going on – and another 33,000 the following for a mammoth number of 113,000 hits to create a record for any event involving matters on or off the field in our county!
 
Not content with that little lot, The Bluebirds were again in action on the Saturday against Newtown and on Twitter Feed had an amazing 129,000 hits, followed by 64,000 the following day – which makes over ONE MILLION hits on social media since they recruited a young man to become their media officer!

And the person who takes much of the credit for his tweeting live from both matches was Jordan Griffiths, who is that new Media Officer at The Bridge Meadow Stadium, who is settling in well to his new role after being installed just over a month ago.
 
And tomorrow (Tuesday) will see Jordan at The Bridge Meadow Stadium, tweeting away to make sure that supporters unable to make it into the ground can still keep involved at home with his help!
 
His appointment came after he had spotted a direct message on The Bluebirds’ site inviting applications and when he applied he received a reply inviting him to send details of what he had to offer.
 
Soon afterwards he was invited to attend an informal interview with Rob Edwards, who asked him to show his skills with some tasks set and within days a delighted Jordan was offered the part-time job!
 

Busy as a student – and working part-time too!

 
Although he hails from the village of Brynamman, in Carmarthenshire, Jordan has been living in the capital whilst attending Cardiff University, where he gained a degree in Politics and International Relations and has now completed his Masters’ Degree in Welsh Government and Politics.
 
He also works part-time at the ‘Treetop Adventure Golf’ in the St Davids Centre in Cardiff  – but is now getting more and more involved with Haverfordwest County.
 
“My duties include the day to day management of all The Bluebirds’ social channels, to build a brand awareness of the club, including the looking after of sponsors’ needs on site, providing details at matches to go on social media, including interviews with the manager and players, as well as creating and maintaining the club’s style and ethos on social media.”
 
 

Jordan loves to play football – at his level!

 
Ask Jordan about his own football and it brings forth a chuckle.
 
“I have played a lot of football but although I enjoy it I have to admit I’m not very good at it!
 
“I turned out as a left back for Bryn Rovers, our village team at Brynamman, from the age of eight to 16 but didn’t go straight into senior football after that because I was always working on Saturdays.
 
“I enjoyed seven-a-side football for the Politics Department in university and am involved in a five-a-side works team called the ‘Reservoir Frogs’ at Cardiff Gol Centre, near the Cardiff City Stadium.
 
“But I have to say that I’m a self-confessed avid supporter of Swansea City but although I’m from an area where rugby is very popular I’m not a keen follower at all of the oval-ball game!”
 

And finally . . .

 
“It’s been great to be involved from the outset,” Jordan told us, “and I have enormous respect for club chairman Rob Edwards, who couldn’t have given me more support and encouragement.
 
“Secretary Julie Le-Grice has been awesome because she has had so much work in dealing with coronavirus protocols as well as being very busy with other issues emanating from promotion to the JD Cymru Premier League.
 
“Then there’s manager Wayne Jones, assistant manager Mark Murison and the other coaches, whom I met at a recent training session, alongside a number of players. I was very impressed by their hard work and the way they’ve responded positively to me.
 
“I’ve enjoyed all the matches so far, although our defeats at home to Connah’s Quay Nomads and Barry Town  were disappointing – but did we make up for them with that epic win last Saturday at Bala!
 
“Everyone on the playing side pulled together and jack Wilson’s 94^th minute goal gave us a 2-1 win that the experts certainly didn’t predict. I tweeted throughout and once again we had over 100,000 hits!
 
“They have all been brilliant and we were all looking forward to our opening match at home to Cefn Druids but its late postponement was a big disappointment – but I thoroughly enjoyed the games at Cardiff Met and home to Newtown, and especially at Bala - and I hope to watch all games, if possible, home and away.”
