Hakin hammer Milford to pay perfect tribute to Joe Lennon

2025 Joe Lennon Memorial Cup winners - Hakin United

Hakin United 7 Milford United 0

Hakin United were crowned winners of the annual Joe Lennon Cup on Friday night, scoring seven times to beat Milford United, writes Fraser Watson.

In a tournament that again paid tribute to one of the great coaching figures in Pembrokeshire football, the Vikings made the final on Monday after overcoming St Ismaels 4-1. The following evening, Milford beat Herbrandston 4-3 in a thrilling affair, with both matches drawing good crowds at The Obs.

The attendance was greater still for the final, where Hakin eased into a 3-0 half-time lead with goals from Cam Brunton, Leon Luby, and Shane Walsh.

Jack Griffiths made the game safe early in the second half before an Anthony Hubbock own goal made it 5-0. Callum Stannett and Tom Edmunds then rounded off the scoring late on as Scott Davies’ side finished their pre-season preparations in style.

In a poignant presentation ceremony, Lennon’s siblings and grandchildren were on hand to present the trophy to Hakin skipper Jay Power, with Griffiths awarded the man of the match award.

Tournament organiser Jonny Lewis thanked everyone involved, including referee Marty Jones, who officiated all three matches. He said the large crowd was a testament to Lennon’s legacy and the regard he’s held not only in Hakin but throughout Pembrokeshire.

All four teams involved will now turn their attention to league action this week as the 2025/26 programme gets underway.
