Goodwick thrash poor Bridge at Phoenix Park

Champions Goodwick United showed no mercy as they totally dominated this clash to move back to the top of the table with this excellent victory against out of sorts Merlins Bridge at Phoenix Park.
Chris O’Sullivan’s Goodwick outfit dominated this clash from start to finish as they returned to the top of the table on greater goals difference than second placed Hakin United who they play at the Obs next week.
Goodwick deservedly led 5-0 at the break as midfielder Rhys Jones bagged a first half hat-trick alongside one apiece by Rhys Dalling and Will Howarth, after the break they added further goals by James Bryan, a second for Dalling plus a stoppage time goal for substitute Kyle O’Sullivan to round off an extremely good day at the office.
Wizards boss Jay Kennedy will feel bitterly disappointed with the final result as they will need to bounce back quickly if they going to turn around their poor start to the season.
The hosts opened the scoring within a minute, a long ball in the box by Steff Hayes led to a mistake by defender Jordan Thomas as deadly midfielder Jones nipped as he comfortably slotted past Gary Thomas.
Goalkeeper Kyle Marsh’s big punt up field caused mayhem in the Wizards defence as Dalling buried his shot in the far corner, Will Haworth struck the third with a fine far post finish.
Minutes later Dalling was up ended in the box, up stepped Jones to send keeper Thomas the wrong way for the fourth. Ten minutes later Jones completed his well taken hat-trick as the hosts led 5-0 at half time.
In the 66
th minute Goodwick added goal number six when the lively Dalling flicked on for the centre back Bryan to nod home at the far post.
Horgan neatly set-up Dalling who finished with a neat left footed finish, matters got worse for the visitors as Ryan Evans was given his marching orders by referee John Jenkins for a second yellow card offence.
Deep in stoppage time substitute Kyle O’Sullivan, nephew of manager Chris, struck a deflected shot off Harry Thomas into the back of the net to complete the rout.
