Tenby leave it late to secure a draw

Clarbeston Road 3 – Tenby 3

Spencer Williams struck a late stoppage time equaliser to earn Tenby a hard fought draw against battling Clarbeston Road.

Clarby Road player manager Matthew Ellis will be pleased his side gained a point against second placed Tenby, but also he would have felt this was a game they should have won as twice they led.

The only goal of the first goal was scored in the 18th minute as Travis Jones set-up the hard working Matthew Davies.

Midway through the second period Davies bagged his second goal for The Road who put them selves in to a good position.

However, Tenby clawed their way back as substitute Scott Ferney and Shaun Whitfield both scored to square matters at 2-2.

The Road added a third in the 81st minute as Jack Ashman struck but remarkably in the 95th minute Williams struck an extremely late equaliser to salvage a point when all looked lost.

Robins pinch victory late at Sports

Fishguard Sports 2 – Pennar Robins 4

Sean Edmundson - struck the fourth for Pennar Robins at Fishguard SportsPennar Robins bagged two late goals to secure an excellent win against Fishguard Sports in an entertaining clash at Tregroes Park.

After a fairly open first 10 minutes, Fishguard Sports took the lead in the 11th minute thanks to a well driven free kick from outside the area after Bobby Jones was alleged to have taken down the Fishguard player on the edge of the box in an off the ball incident.

Soon after Pennar hit back with a free kick of their own as Sports keeper, Ryan Sinnott carried the ball outside the box to give Pennar a free kick just in the D. This time it was smashed through the wall and centre of the goal by Toby Davies.

In the 27th minute a good passage of play for the away side seen the ball come to Grimwood who unleashed a venomous shot from all of 35 yards which flew into the top corner for his first of the season to give Sinnott no chance.

Minutes later and Fishguard levelled matters as some poor marking of runners led to an equaliser from Luke Thomas just inside the box into the bottom corner.

After a completely frantic first half, the game was evenly balanced at 2-2.

In the second half, it was Pennar’s turn to try and compete against the wind. The away side come out with real intent and played some lovely football to manage the conditions. The wind died down and Pennar still was on the front foot with chances created from the midfield three.

Early in the second half, the Robins had a goal ruled out for outside before Sports had one ruled out themselves in the 70th minute for a push on the keeper which both managers felt was the right call from referee Helmet Reinhardt as the game remained at 2-2.

As the away side continued to press for that important winner, it came late on in the 88th minute when fantastic work from Grimwood fed Bobby Jones for his shot to be saved by Sinnott only for substitute Bradney to follow up and smash home from 12 yards.

From kick off Sports passed from the back and the energetic Captain Smith pressed the home side and won the ball back superbly on the right, beat his man before putting a wicked cross into the box for Edmundson to smash home unmarked in the 90th minute at the far post to round off a deserved 4-2 win for the Robins.

Thomas goal breaks down Tish as Hakin go nine points clear

Hakin United 1 - St Ishmaels 0

Hakin goal scorer Camron Thomas and teammate man of the match Jack Griffiths. Picture Fraser WatsonFor Hakin it was anything but easy - but a second half goal from Camron Thomas proved enough for the hosts to beat a stubborn St Ishmaels can take three crucial points at The Ob's, writes Fraser Watson.

For 45 minutes, Tish were organised and resolute as their hosts struggled to carve out chances, but early in the second half Thomas swept home from close range after being teed up by Leon Luby and Ashley Bevan. Moments later the visitors lost keeper Owen Thomas to a red card, but to their credit, refused to cave and stayed in the contest until the final whistle.

It was the Vikings who had spent much of the opening stages on the front foot but opportunities were few and far between. Luby had a long range effort saved by Thomas and then sent in a free kick from which Jack Britton flicked a header narrowly over.

Hakin had appeals for a penalty turned down when Ashley Bevan went down following contact from behind from Brennan Devonald, but it was the latter's centre-back partner Finley Armstrong who then flung himself superbly to the deck to block Britton's close range shot.

At the other end key Tish striker Aaron Hallam often found himself isolated up against Jake Merry and Jay Power but was again a physical presence and was one of a number of players involved in minor first half flashpoints as Graham Ninnis' side showed no signs of backing down.

But the league leaders immediately tried to up the ante after the break as Bevan had an effort well saved and in the 53rd minute, came the defining moment. Luby, having switched over to the right wing, cut into the area and pulled a pass back for Bevan - only for the ball to be deflected into the path of Thomas to finish clinically from eight yards.

The pressure continued as Cameron Brunton's curling free kick cannoned back off the bar and moments later, the winger was involved in another big moment as he latched onto Power's through ball and tried to flick a shot past Thomas - with the keeper using an outstretched hand to make the save despite venturing out of his area. Referee Mark Hicks was left with little option but to issue a straight red card.

It meant Ninnis having to sacrifice Ethan Davies as back-up keeper Jonathan Pawlett, only called into the squad after Tish seconds were called off in the morning, was sent on.

From there it was Hakin who inevitably dominated possession with Jack Griffiths to the fore in midfield, but although Bevan's angled shot deflected inches off target, Tish dug deep despite not mustering enough threat of their own. There was a nervy final few moments for Scott Davies and co though as Adam Kingsbeer's shot was gathered by Rory Williams - and the Hakin keeper then had to get down low to deal with Hallam's 30 yard free-kick.

The final whistle sounded soon after, and was greeted with as much as relief as
there was joy from Hakin's players and fans.

Man of the match: Jack Griffiths

Finley Armstrong was immense for Tish as Hakin came forward and for the hosts, Luby, Brunton, and scorer Thomas were all prominent in their best attacking play. But it was Griffiths who got on the ball and dictated matters in the second half, especially in the closing stages as the Vikings closed things out.

Hakin manager Scott Davies:

"They played well in the first half and the whole game really - it's probably a 0-0 game without Cam's finish. We didn't know whether to stick or twist (late on) but just hoped the game would fizzle out at 1-0 but fair play they stuck in it with 10 men.

"It was a tough game and anyone who thinks Tish are the sort of team you can still score six or seven against are wrong. I have a feeling we'll meet them again this season in one of the cups."

Final word:

You don't win any titles in October. Whether it be form, fixture pile-ups, or the double header with Goodwick and clash with Monkton to come, Davies is too measured and experienced to let his side get carried away with a nine point lead.

However, it's undeniable that it's currently the Vikings in early control of the title race. This win won't linger long in the memory of purists, but it could prove pivotal come May after being made to work as hard as that against a Tish side that now looks unified, organised, and capable of living with the best.

They can still have a big say in the title race. Hakin will be relieved that they can no longer have it against them.

Hakin United: Rory Williams, Kieran King, Jay Power, Jake Merry, Camron Thomas, Matthew Broome (Craig Nicholson 65), Leon Luby, Jack Griffiths, Cameron Brunton, Jack Britton, Ashley Bevan. Subs not used: Joel Mills, Liam Parks.

Rooks fight back late for a draw

Merlins Bridge 2 – Carew 2

Carew came from two-goals adrift to secure an important draw against Merlins Bridge at the Pembrokeshire Sports Village.

Wizards manager Mike Preddy was disappointed his side didn’t secure victory after they led 2-0 but leaked two goals in the last ten minutes.

Midfielder Dai Davies opened the scoring as the midfielder was put through by Sam Nicholas as he made no mistake with a one-on-one with Tom Davies.

After half time The Wizards bagged a second, as Iwan Howells set-up Daniel Isaac who scored with a near post finish.

The Rooks were determined to get back in the game and were rewarded in the 81st minute when Marcus Griffiths scored with a close range header.

Minutes later the visitors got back on level terms when scorer Griffiths assisted for Harry Peniket to equalise with an easy tap-in.
