It was a sad day for Pembrokeshire football with the announcement of the death of Royston Holman at the age of 87, who had served as an administrator within the local set up for the past 47 years, and was one of the Pembrokeshire League's longest-ever serving councillors.

Manderwood Pembrokeshire League released the following statement:
"It is with great sadness that we have today learned of the passing of one of our longest serving League Councillors, Royston Holman.

"Royston was an active member even through last season and will be sorely missed by all. He was also well known for his devotion and work at Pill Lane with Milford Athletic.

"Our thoughts are with his friends and family through this sad time and we send them our deepest condolences."
 

Long service recognised

Back in 2011, Royston was presented with a special award in recognition of him serving as an administrator within county football for 40 years and also presented a special annual trophy for the winning manager at the Senior Cup, in memory of his late wife Lilian.

As well as holding the positions of Chairman, President and life-member on the League Council, he also served on the committee of the West Wales Football Association for five years and was an administrator with Athletic.

In his playing career, Holman was best known for his goalkeeping exploits at Pill Lane, and was a widely respected character in Pembrokeshire and beyond.

Pembrokeshire Sport always thought Royston was a gentleman of local football sends condolences to his family and close friends.
