Bevan's superb brace helps Vikings to West Wales Cup glory
2025 West Wales Intermediate Cup Final
Venue: Swansea.com Stadium
Tenby 2 – Hakin United 3
Hakin United came from behind to secure a hard-fought victory against arch local rivals Tenby to win the West Wales Intermediate Cup for the first time in 21 years.
Both side’s came into this prestigious final, which was played at the Swansea.com Stadium, the home of Championship outfit Swansea City, knowing that this would be a close-fought tussle as both league games this season finished in a draw.
Tenby manager Gareth Noot would have felt happy at half time that his side narrowly led 1-0 when Jerome Williams set up striker Scott Ferney who found the back of Vikings’ goal keeper Gareth Fawcett’s net on the 30-minute mark.
Hakin United manager Scott Davies made an important double substitution at the break as he brought on versatile defender Camron Thomas and midfielder Jordan Kilby who replaced Kieran King and Craig Nicholson respectively, which suited The Vikings as the pair brought some extra energy which saw them quickly equalise through vastly experienced Bevan who headed home from Jake Merry’s clever assist on the right.
Substitute Thomas then set-up Bevan in the 69
th minute, who buried his effort past Tenby keeper Dylan Noot which put the Vikings 2-1 ahead.
This gripping final continued to ebb and flow, but it was The Vikings who grabbed a crucial third goal in the 85
th minute as Thomas assisted for the second time and Leon Luby made no mistake from inside the box as he twisted and turned before rifling home a low shot.
Four minutes later Tenby pulled one back through Jerome Williams, whose innocuous shot rolled across the box before curling in low at the far post to set up a nervous finish, but The Vikings closed out for the remainder of the limited time left as they narrowly held on for a famous victory despite the heroic efforts of Tenby so it was skipper Ryan Wilson who got his hands on the coveted silverware as the Hakin squad and supporters celebrated well into the wee hours at a private disco, held at a Swansea night club.
