Senior Cup – Quarter Finals

Goodwick celebrate the opener scored by Rhys Jones against Carew

Strong Goodwick march into last four

Goodwick United 4 – Carew 0

Goodwick United marched into the semi-finals after a workmanlike victory ensured they comfortably overcame Carew at Phoenix Park.

This was rightly billed as the match of the day, as the Rooks came to Goodwick brimming with confidence after last week’s excellent 4-0 win against Waunarlwydd Galaxy to reach the last eight of the West Wales Intermediate Cup whilst Chris O’Sullivan’s Goodwick outfit were hurting from a slender 1-0 defeat at Pontlliw to bow out of the prestigious cup competition.

After a cagey opening 20 minutes the hosts broke the deadlock in the 19th minute, Sonny Phillips brought down Rhys Dalling outside the box, from the resulting free kick Rhys Jones buried his effort into the far corner past stranded keeper Tom Davies.

Minutes later, Gwilt failed to gather a loose ball which fell to Adam Musket who drilled his shot agonisingly across the face of goal.

In the 44th minute the hosts were awarded a penalty which Jones confidently despatched which gave his team an important 2-0 cushion at the break.

The second half was a ding-dong battle, but it was Goodwick who grabbed an important third as Dalling made no mistake.

On the stroke of full time Scott Delaney scored his side’s fourth to secure a thoroughly deserved victory as they take their place as one of the favourites in the last four of the Senior Cup.

Kilgetty are spot on against gutted Wizards

Kilgetty 2 – Merlins Bridge 2

(Kilgetty won 3-1 on penalties)

Lloyd Hughes - scored for KilgettyOne hundred and twenty minutes could not separate Kilgetty and Merlins Bridge, but it was last year’s Senior Cup finalists who kept their cool to win the dreaded penalty shootout as they reached the semi-finals for a second year in a row.

Jordan Williams opened the scoring for the Wizards, but in the 29th minute Oscar Miles equalised for the home outfit as the score read 1-1 at half time.

In the 80th minute Lloyd Hughes struck the back of the net which gave the hosts a slender lead, five minutes later Alfie Stotter levelled matters.

In the extra time period neither side could find the winner as it went down to penalties where Kilgetty keeper Ben Evans was the hero. Only Joe Leahy was successful for the Wizards as Lloyd Hughes, Richard Cope and Owain Coombs all scored for the hosts who secured a nerve racking victory.

Steele’s brace secures semi-final spot for Swifts

Monkton Swifts 3 – Pennar Robins 0

Monkton Swifts fended off a strong challenge to secure a place in the last four of the Senior Cup at the expense of close neighbours Pennar Robins at Monkton Lane.

Form book always goes out the window as far as derby clashes, this was no different as both teams battled hard for supremacy.

However, Ben Steele bagged goals in the 39th and 43rd minutes to give the Swifts a two-goal cushion at half time.

Swifts’ boss Chris Lloyd knew the second half would be hard as Pennar put in a strong challenge to get back in the tie.

In the 86th minute substitute Dylan Davies got on the end of a Paul Miller pass to score his side’s third, there was no way back for the spirited Robins.

Tenby came into this quarter final as the favourites, but they didn’t have it all their own way as Camrose made life difficult.

On the stroke of half time Harri Phillips set-up Ferney who found the back of the net to give his side a slender lead.
