Title seeking Vikings beat Wizards with late goals flurry

Merlins Bridge  0 – Hakin United 3

Hakin United bagged three late goals to secure victory against battling Merlins Bridge at the Pembrokeshire Sports Village all weather surface.

There were only two games played in the top flight due to the adverse weather that has struck the county during most of the week.

Scott Davies’ Vikings are currently thirteen points clear at the top of the table and have only seven games left to play before the end of the season.

It would take a brave man to bet against them not winning the title as they have definitely been the most consistent team in the league.

In the first period it was the visitors who edged matters, but full credit to the Wizards’ defence they quite literally put their bodies on the line to shut out the Vikings.

Jack Britton’s edge of the area rising shot was well saved by Daniel Pearce and at the other end Liam Manwaring’s volley agonisingly missed the target also Vikings' keeper Rory Williams pulled off a fine save to deny Nathan Evans.

The Vikings finally broke the deadlock in the 80th minute following a goalmouth scramble where substitute Mark Jones collided with Pearce as the ball fell invitingly to skipper Ryan Wilson who turned it into the net, with the Wizards’ camp complaining their keeper had been fouled.

On the stroke of full time the visitors added a cracking second goal as Jordan Kilby and Britton combined with a neat one-two which the latter struck an unstoppable 20 yarder which flew in the top corner.

The Vikings put the icing on the cake as they added a third in stoppage time as Kilby set-up Leon Luby who drilled in from 15 yards to complete the scoring on a day where the Vikings edged closer towards the title.

The hosts grabbed an early lead as Euan Gottwaltz set-up Rowlands who made no mistake from close range, this is how it stayed up until the 52nd minute as Henry Lawrence pounced for their second.

Ten minutes from the end Kilgetty bagged their third to put them out of sight as Rowlands got his second of the game thanks to a neat Jordan Gorman assist.
