Goodwick return to top of table after defeating gritty Tenby

Goodwick United 5 – Tenby 2

Will Haworth and Ben Steele both scored twice which helped Goodwick United return to the top of the table following a workmanlike performance in difficult conditions against battling Tenby at Phoenix Park.

With only two games completed in the top flight, The Phoenix Lads took advantage to pick up a vital victory which moved them a point ahead of champions Hakin United, whose game was postponed at home against Carew.

Central defender Ross Jones on his return to the club gave Goodwick an early lead with an eight yard finish, but soon after Daryl Williams equalised for the visitors with a far post header from a well delivered free kick in the box, and on the stroke of half time Williams struck again with a bullet header from a corner to put his side 2-1 ahead at the interval.

Goodwick levelled matters midway through the second half through deadly Haworth with a near post finish, then minutes later Haworth assisted as they regained the lead through a clinical 25 yard Ben Steele finish.

Minutes later Steele grabbed his second of the game for his side’s fourth with a superb 25 yard low curler in the bottom corner and on the stroke of full time Haworth bagged the fifth following an Adam Lawrence assist which the wide midfielder turned home at the far post.

Special praise for referee Dean Driscoll who controlled the game impeccably.

Plunkett scores stoppage time equaliser for Wizards

Pennar Robins 2 – Merlins Bridge 2

Bradley Plunkett stunned Pennar Robins as the Merlins Bridge super sub bagged a stoppage time equaliser with a composed finish to agonisingly deny the host’s victory.

Due to the adverse weather this game was switched from Bush Camp to the all-weather 3G pitch at Pembroke Leisure Centre.

This was the third meeting between the two teams, they drew 1-1 in the league at the Bridge, and only last week the Bridge won 6-1 at Bush Camp to dump the Robins out of the Senior Cup.

The visitors suffered an early set back as Nick Squire left the pitch injured and he was replaced by the versatile veteran Peter Thomas, minutes later and Adam Kingsbeer struck the opener in the 28th minute which put The Wizards in the ascendancy. The midfielder’s wind assisted free kick from out wide bamboozled Pennar keeper Ben Nunn.

The Wizards went down to nine men as Jordan Thomas and Dai Davies were both in the sin bin.

Shortly after the break Noah Davison equalised from close range as he got on the end of a neat Rhys Sture assist, as it put the hosts right back in contention.

Pennar began to get the upper hand and they took the lead through Gethin Bradney and it looked as if it would turn out to be the winner, but deep in stoppage time up popped super sub Plunkett who scored a timely stoppage time equaliser that hit the roof of the net for the thankful Wizards.
