Vikings beat Swifts in top of the table clash
Hakin United 4 – Monkton Swifts 1
Runaway league leaders Hakin United gained a thoroughly deserved victory over arch rivals Monkton Swifts in this keenly contested top of the table clash at the Obs.
The Vikings won 2-0 against The Swifts earlier in the season, so manager Vikings’ manager Scott Davies will be pleased his team have taken maximum points against the team who are currently thirteen points behind them in second place.
Despite the heavy rain which had fallen in the week, this game rightly went ahead despite the Obs proving heavy going as both top teams went toe-to-toe.
Cameron Brunton opened the scoring for The Vikings with a sweetly struck far post half volley which was supplied by a sublime pinpoint cross from Leon Luby.
Midway through the first period Liam Parks replaced the struggling Luby also The Swifts’ lost their skipper Ben Steele who suffered a heavy knock and was replaced by Jack Clarke.
The Vikings continued to press as the Swifts battled to keep them out, however seven minutes before the interval The Vikings grabbed a second goal as scorer Brunton’s free kick in the box was met by a firm Ashley Bevan header which crashed into the back of Taylor Gullam’s net.
Only three minutes later The Swifts pulled one back with an excellent move, Jason Finnegan’s excellent cross from the right in front of the Slab End, fell perfectly for Billy Davis who nodded in at the far post.
With the very next attack The Vikings scored their third, substitute Liam Parr’s neat through ball fell to midfielder Matthew Broome who buried his 12 yard effort in the far corner which gave The Vikings a 3-1 cushion at half time.
Broome suffered a heavy knock and was replaced by Ryan Wilson, midway through the second period The Swifts made two changes as Jason Finnegan and Daniel James were both replaced by Dylan James and Connor Davies respectively.
With thirteen minutes remaining there was a cameo run out for Shane Walsh who replaced the industrious Craig Nicholson.
The Vikings grabbed a crucial fourth goalwhich put this result to bed as Wilson struck a superb low 20 yard direct free kick which found the bottom corner of Gullam’s net and there was no way back for the battling Swifts as The Vikings keep marching on with their sights firmly fixed on winning the title.

Haworth terrorises The Road
Goodwick United 4 – Clarbeston Road 0

On fire Will Haworth terrorised Clarbeston Road as the wide-sided midfielder assisted for three of Goodwick United’s four goals against Clarbeston Road at Phoenix Park.
Nigel Delaney’s Goodwick outfit grabbed two goals in each half and also kept a clean sheet as they sit third in the table much to the delight of their manager.
The hosts grabbed two early quick fire goals through Rhys Jones and defender Josh Wood who found the back of the net against his former club which gave the hosts a 2-0 cushion at half time.
Midway through the second half striker Tom Jago struck his side’s third before Rhys Jones added his second of the game, for Goodwick’s fourth as they wrapped up the scoring.
