Tom rules the stats' list in local cricket for 2019!

If there was an official award for 'First Division Player of the Year' in the Pembrokeshire County Cricket League, which is sponsored by the Thomas Carroll Group, then the undoubted winner for the recent 2019 campaign would be Carew's talented all-rounder Tom Davies.
Because Tom featured highly with bat and ball in the 'Top Twenty' lists so carefully compiled by county club chairman Paul Webb and his wife Janice (where he came first in the batting and was second behind Andrew Miller (Neyland) in the bowling stakes.
"I would like to thank everyone at the clubs, especially the likes of Jayne Cole (Haverfordwest) and Wendy Bradshaw (St Ishmaels) who helped us with details," Paul told us, " and on the topic of thanks I must readily admit that Janice does the bulk of the work whilst I act as the figurehead - and she does a brilliant job!"
Huge run totals for Tom and Dan

In the batting stakes Tom Davies amassed a huge 936 runs in 18 league matches with nine 50s and one century and was joined on that impressive tally by Dan Sutton (Cresselly), who had two 'tons' and four half centuries.
"But as usual if players tied we went for the better average," explained Paul,” with Tom's 62.4 just beating Dan's 58.5."
Third, with 927 runs, was Simon Holliday (Haverfordwest) but he will surely argue that he was only nine runs behind and played two games fewer because of injury - but it's all about fitness with youngsters these days Doc!
Nick Koomen came fourth with 802 runs but then there was a large gap of 226 runs before the rest, who all can be very proud to be in the top twenty in this list, where there were 19 centuries, eight of them shared by Messrs Sutton and Holliday. Coincidentally, there were also 67 half centuries, with Will Beresford (Llangwm) the only one to miss out on both but still scoring enough to feature - so concentrate a bit harder next year Will!
On the team front Lawrenny, Cresselly, Whitland and Saundersfoot also had three apiece in the list, with two each for champions Neyland and Llangwm, with only one each for Carew, Haverfordwest, St Ishmaels and Burton.
‘Windy’ is top bowler – again!
On the bowling list it is no surprise that Andrew ‘Windy’ Miller leads the way again because the Neyland all-rounder grabbed 47 wickets with his canny slow stuff and bamboozled opposing batsmen, as he has done so many years. It is a tribute to his mental strength and consistency, with Tom Davies just four behind with his pace bowling and Andrew Pawlett (St Ishmaels) three behind him with his slow left-arm bowling always causing problems.
Pawlett also had the best figures as he picked up 7 for 20, closely followed by another spinner in Morgan Scale (Burton) with fine figures of 7 for 39 – and then Davies and Clive Tucker (Haverfordwest) both with 6 for 15 hauls.
Team-wise Lawrenny caught the eye with three bowlers in the top nine as Neyland and Tish were the only other teams to claim three places. There were two each for Tish, Saundersfoot, Haverfordwest, Burton and Cresselly, whilst Carew, Llangwm and Whitland had just one per club.

And finally . . .
Looking at the all-rounder stats, Tom Davies was amazing with Simon Holliday next having claimed 11
th spot in the bowling as well as his third place batting – and the others to feature were Nick Cope (Saundersfoot) and Matthew Davies (Whitland).
So well done to all the players involved, some for the first time and others as resident members of the stats – and an especial thank you to Paul and Janice for their yeoman work!
