The People Who Count in Pembrokeshire Cricket - Part 3 - September 2025

PembrokeshireSport.co.uk  is very proud of our unrivalled coverage of local cricket but readily admit that a huge factor in such blanket coverage relies on fantastic support from wonderful scorers in a range of clubs who supply us with scores and other match details - and that is why we gratefully dub them:
THE PEOPLE WHO COUNT!

Interestingly, the majority of them started because their husbands and/or children were involved - and they have now extended their expertise to such a level that they also spread the score lines nationwide on the ‘Play-Live Cricket’ app, whilst the fellers involved tend to rely more on their scorebooks - but still take pride in making them look like works of art!

Today, we mention our third set of smashing scorers so if your club has a scorer who does a great job outside the top two divisions then do let us know – and to all of them, old and young, we say a huge thank you for your unswerving support – AND SINCERELY HOPE WE SEE YOU AGAIN NEXT SEASON!

Janice Webb (Burton)7. Janice Webb (Burton)

Janice Webb cut her scoring teeth during the almost two decades that her husband Paul was a terrific captain of Whitland Cricket Club and since then she has been a fantastic scorer for Burton Cricket Club after sons Matthew, Bobby and Tim all played at Oatfield Park and Janice stepped in to do great work at the club on ‘Play-Cricket’.

As former skipper Toby Hayman told us,
“We’d be lost without Janice on Saturdays because she is very much part of the first team and knows her cricket.” - and Janice also scores at a higher level as Paul has been heavily involved in Welsh Seniors’ Cricket for some time now, right down to playing internationals abroad - and again Janice is heavily involved because they also rely on her as a scorer!

Sarah Arran (Neyland)8. Sarah Arran (Neyland)

When John Laugharne sadly passed away, Neyland lost a club stalwart who had scored for the club for many seasons, but they were very lucky to have someone waiting in the wings who was a natural replacement because Sarah Arran loves her cricket after starting out many years ago when she was one of the top players in local ladies’ cricket as she followed in the footsteps of her father Arthur.

Sarah now scores for Neyland first team and captain Sean Hannon told us she is absolutely brilliant in the job and is one of the ladies who have quickly adapted to ‘Play-Cricket’ and as a result Neyland gets excellent coverage on social media as well as PembrokeshireSport.co.uk

And as an added bonus. If Sarah is unavailable on rare occasions, they have a family stand-in because dad Arthur, who was a really good batsman in his younger days, quite happily steps in!

Emma Hood (Herbrandston)9. Emma Hood (Herbrandston)

Emma is one of the younger scorers as she has taken over the reins at Herbie on an, ‘If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em’ basis, because her husband Rob is the club’s excellent first-team skipper.

Club stalwart Gary Davies told us she is doing a great job, which is very high praise from such a club stalwart - and Emma hails from the well-known Banner Family with her brother Nathan now back at the club and providing a real lift with his depth of experience.

Her father Nigel also played and her late grandfather Glyn was hugely respected as a player with Herbie and St Ishmaels - and a tremendous character who this writer was proud to call a really good friend!
