The People Who Count in Pembrokeshire Cricket - Part 1 - September 2025

PembrokeshireSport.co.uk  is very proud of our unrivalled coverage of local cricket but readily admit that a huge factor in such blanket coverage relies on fantastic support from wonderful scorers in a range of clubs who supply us with scores and other match details - and that is why we gratefully dub them:
THE PEOPLE WHO COUNT!

Interestingly, the majority of them started because their husbands and/or children were involved - and they have now extended their expertise to such a level that they also spread the score lines nationwide on the ‘Play-Live Cricket’ app, whilst the fellers involved tend to rely more on their scorebooks - but still take pride in making them look like works of art!

Over the next couple of weeks, we hope to mention as many as possible, so if your club has a scorer who does a great job outside the top two divisions then do let us know – and to all of them, old and young, we say a huge thank you for your unswerving support –
AND SINCERELY HOPE WE SEE YOU AGAIN NEXT SEASON!

 1. Jayne Cole (Haverfordwest)

1. Jayne Cole (Haverfordwest)

Jayne is almost certainly the longest-serving scorer and her loyalty is so much more amazing when we consider each Saturday sees her make a round trip of over 130 miles - and her reward is the huge number of medals she has at home, including 19 from the Harrison-Allen Bowl, ten of them winners - a record that will surely never be beaten!

And what is doubly nice is that Jayne has passed on some of her expertise to others just starting out in scoring - and she is hugely respected by all involved in our cricket!

 2. Wendy Bradshaw (St Ishmaels)
 2. Wendy Bradshaw (St Ishmaels)

Wendy originally sat in the scorers’ box because he son Peter, another club stalwart, was playing for Tish and there was no-one ready to do the job! But she was clearly a good learner as well as a teacher in Haverfordwest because she has been there for a very long time! Now Wendy is a regular user of ‘Play-Cricket Live’ and has been instrumental in helping others, along with Peter Bettely, another stalwart proponent of the system.

Everyone in Tish would say that she is the No 1 member because of all the work she does for the club and although ‘Aunty Wendy’ would shrug this praise off we know what an inspiration she is - even down to sponsoring players who perform well on Saturdays!

3. Adge John (Saundersfoot)

I received great news before the start of the 2025 season when Adge John contacted me to tell me that his scoring career had been extended because of an operation on his eyes, which had previously deteriorated to the extent that his valuable role would have to end.

Adge’s determination is a byword in local cricket and he has had another great season with The Seasiders, where he is held in tremendous admiration and is very much part of the team ethos - so much so that he is picked up and taken to games by a couple of the young players in the team.

Adge is ‘old school’ in the sense that he loves to use his score-book, which is a picture, even more so because of his eyesight!

This writer would like to go on record to say that Adge John is an example of good sportsmanship from a player who has previously won winners’ medals in the Harrison-Allen Bowl and in the Senior Cup in football - but retains that aura of mutual respect that some of today’s players would do well to emulate.
