The People Who Count - Part 6 - September 2025
PembrokeshireSport.co.uk is very proud of our unrivalled coverage of local cricket but readily admit that a huge factor in such blanket coverage relies on fantastic support from wonderful scorers in a range of clubs who supply us with scores and other match details - and that is why we gratefully dub them:
THE PEOPLE WHO COUNT!
Interestingly, the majority of them started because their husbands and/or children were involved - and they have now extended their expertise to such a level that they also spread the score lines nationwide on the ‘Play-Live Cricket’ app, whilst the fellers involved tend to rely more on their scorebooks - but still take pride in making them look like works of art!
Over the next couple of weeks, we hope to mention as many as possible, so if your club has a scorer who does a great job outside the top two divisions then do let us know – and to all of them, old and young, we say a huge thank you for your unswerving support – AND
SINCERELY HOPE WE SEE YOU AGAIN NEXT SEASON!
16. Natalie Thomas (Haverfordwest).
Natalie Thomas will surely step into Jayne Cole’s giant footsteps one day because she was taught how to score by sitting alongside Jayne when she was small and so learned the right way - which now includes being versed in the ‘Play-Cricket’ scheme.
She hails from a sporting family because her dad Paul was part of a Haverfordwest team which were multi-trophy winners in his time, whilst mum Alison was Haverfordwest CC secretary for years. Alison has scored for Haverfordwest 2nds and still contacts me when she’s in the scorebox, even though she is outside the first two divisions now - and she has done a fantastic job this season with her scoring for the Pembroke County’s first team!
17. Jess Lewis (Cresselly Cricket Club Seconds)
Jess Lewis hails from the cricketing-mad Lewis family which has done so much work for the club, on the field as players and in coaching in their conveyor belt of young talent.
She plays for the ladies team, whilst dad Ryan and brother Josh are playing for the seconds - and if she is unavailable on odd Saturdays here and there then mum Michelle steps in to score.
The Lewis family is further involved because Uncle Matthew is also heavily involved.
18. Janice Brick (Llangwm)
Janice Brick and I have been great friends after meeting her through her brother, the late Jeffrey Saies, who was Llangwm’s scorer before her for many years – and I was sad to see her decide it was time to call a halt after starting off this season – but she was still there, cheering her ‘boys’ along at all the home games. Her sons Darren and Simon previously played cricket and rugby for the village and I would like to place on record the way she always treated me with a smile – but never afraid to tell me if I got it wrong!
THANKS JAN!
