Hook Under 11s

Hook U11s (273/3) backed up their win last week with an excellent all round performance to come out on top against a young St Ishmaels U11s side (229/7)

With the home team winning the toss and deciding to bat, it was the visiting bowlers who quickly took the initiative and with a few quick wickets, including a sharp run out restricted the Tish batsmen to just 201 runs from the first 4 overs. William Harries (Hook skipper for the evening) was the pick of the bowlers in this spell, taking 2-8 from his 2 overs.

The Hook bowling trio of Dylan James (1-4) George Luff (1-11) and Callum Nutty all took wickets during the second pairing, with the later taking 2 wickets for just 3 runs off his 2 overs with some very disciplined line and length bowling.

Ethan Davies offered plenty of resistance scoring 6 runs, however Tish found themselves in negative figures at 196 at the halfway stage of their innings.

The negative score soon turned very positive as Tia Williams (10) batted very well with some excellent stroke play, including possibly the shot of the day for four along the ground, through the covers! Definitely one to watch for the future. Whilst Tia frustrated the Hook bowlers, Manny Davies nagged away at the off stump, returning figures of 1-11.

For the final pairing, the Tish batsmen navigated these overs well, protecting their wicket and with some wayward bowling from Hook, managed to get the score up to 229.

The opening pair of Manny Davies (3 runs) and Rhys Phelps started well for Hook, with the later crashing a big 6 over the square leg boundary on route to a positive 15 runs. Once again, Tia Williams was the stand out player and took a key wicket during this spell, returning figures of 2 for 20 off 3 overs, including the only maiden over of the innings.

Jack Thomas (3 runs) and Freddie Goodridge (3 runs) nudged the ball around for a few singles, with the fielding side applying a lot of pressure with some excellent fielding, a run out was inevitable and Tish took their chance well with some sharp reactions!

The third pair for Hook comprising of George Luff (8 runs) and Dylan James (18 runs) propelled the score rapidly, with Dylan James placing three boundaries on the leg side, all along the ground and with excellent control.
Charlie Welch bowled very well during this spell and took 1-9.

With Hook ahead on the run chase, it was down to skipper for the evening William Harries (7 runs) and Callum Nutty (7 runs) to ensure no wickets were lost and these two defended their wicket very well with a nice game of ‘tip and run’ thrown in for good measure - they rotated the strike with ease, frustrating the Tish fielders who didn’t give up until after the final ball.

Once the scoring overs were complete, Zach Davies making his debut for the U11s batted well, defending his wicket with confidence and running well between the wicket with Olly Nutty, also making his debut as a last minute stand in for Oscar Willington who had been delayed representing his school at the Eistedfodd in Cardiff, placing 2nd in their event - well done to Oscar and Dylan!

With Hook the winners on the night, Johnny Bap Lewis can be proud of his young team, they played with a smile on their faces and will definitely get better week on week!

As for the Hook boys - keep on, keeping on!
