Ormond Youth Plate Final - Near neighbours combine to gain victory
Carew/Lawrenny (131 for 9) beat Haverfordwest (81 for 8) by 50 runs
Umpires: Nigel Richards & Huw Simpkins
Scorers: Rob Williams & Clarissa Lewis
Venue: Lawrenny Cricket Club
Man of the Match: Oscar Lewis
Adjudicator: Nick Evans

The combined team of near-neighbours Carew and Cresselly proved far too strong for a Haverfordwest team which also included players from nearby Johnston and Herbrandston in this Friday evening tussle at a Lawrenny, where officials deserve every credit for having their excellent facilities in tip-top order.
After being asked to bat first, The Villages put their depth of experience to good effect as they built a very challenging total in their 20 overs – and in stark contrast The Town and co were never in the hunt after slumping to 9 for 3 and then 25 for 5, losing their most experienced player in the process.
The Villagers also suffered an early set back as Logan Hall (2) was well caught by Brandon Dewstowe off Dylan Lee but skipper Oscar Lewis (top score of 31) and Connor Davies (15) steadied things down – although Ollie Tucker fell for a golden duck’ as Fin Atyeo struck first and then Dillon Lewis claimed his two in two balls.

Rhys Lewis (18) and Madoc Evans (19) had three boundaries apiece to keep the tempo up and although Dylan Lee finished his excellent spell with figures of 4 for 24 the addition of 25 extras certainly did no harm to the final tally!
But then The Town hopes of reaching their target took a real nosedive as The Villagers’ opening attack steamed in and Oscar Lewis claimed 1 for 7 from four miserly overs and Taylor Lewis went even better with 2 for 7 in his short stint.
Dillon Lewis (12) and Harvey Thomas (17) batted sensibly but Connor Davies (2 for 27) and Madoc Evans (2 for 14) kept the breaks on and it was only 26 extras that took their score to reasonable proportions.
And finally . . .
The David Lloyd memorial Trophy was presented to the Carew/Lawrenny team captain Oscar Lewis by Phil Lloyd on behalf of his family, with the same player receiving the ‘Man of the Match’ award, which was presented by Nick Evans on behalf of Phil Tallett, who sponsors the trophy annually.
Victory will provide a measure of solace for the winners because they were unable to fulfil their semi-final commitment in the main competition because of some of their talented sporting all-rounders were committed to playing football or rugby elsewhere - and for the runners-up it is great to see them receive engraved medallions as they had a good knock by Harvey Thomas until he was run out, and Brandon Dewstowe pouched three catches – and they played the game in the right sprit as all involved in both camps were a credit to their respective clubs.
