Ladies Indoor Cricket - Second Division - 10th January 2024
Tish win with runs in hand and Pembroke Seconds break their duck
Venue: Neyland Community Hub
Umpires: Adam Hughes, Johnny Lewis & Rob Davies
Scorers: Clarrissa Lewis & Will Davies
There were only two games played this week as Whitland were unable to field a team and missed out on the chance of going to the top of the section table – while St Ishmaels easily beat basement battlers Pembroke Seconds, who deserve every praise for the way they bounced back to win equally easily against Neyland in the other match.
Match One: St Ishmaels 88 for 4 (13) beat Pembroke Seconds 42 for 2 (4) by 46 runs
Linzi Picton launched Tish to a sizeable score as she retired on 25 and later returned to finish on 37 not out with 11 threes as proof of her speed between the wickets, and a four, as Lucy Pattinson came in at No5 and hit an excellent 25 not out.
Charlotte Coulston also opened with 10 and there was also double figures in the extras column before Pembroke found it hard going against Pattinson, Tei Tallett, Coulston and Rachel McGuire.
Pembroke could only muster 24 at the half-way stage as Jen Harvey (run out for 13) and Chloe Jones (13 not out) and were unable to raise the tempo as Extras (1) was the other major contributor to their final total.
Match Two: Neyland 33 for 3 (0) lost to Pembroke 2nds 34 for 0 (14) by 6 wickets
Pembroke were clearly warmed up by their first tussle because they proceeded to reduce Neyland to 33 for 3 in their allotted eight overs and then reached their target without losing a wicket in only 5.5 overs before rightly celebrating their first win of the indoor season!
All the Pembroke bowlers did well, backed up by excellent fielding, as Lowis Hughes topped the batting for Neyland with 11 from as many deliveries, including a nicely-timed four but Jess Lewis (0 for 8), Karen Evans (0-12), Chloe Jones (1 for 9) and especially Summer Russant, who claimed 1 for 4 as she also took the return catch to give her success.
Bethan Chapman (0 for 6) and Jess Bevan (0 for 3) bowled well for Neyland but Chloe Jones (16 not out in 15 deliveries) and Sophie Jelley (13 not out, including a boundary) batted really well for Pembroke Seconds to take them home.
