Pembrokeshire Cricket Ladies deserve credit for deciding to use a ‘Super Sunday’ format to stage the semi-finals of this competition on the same day as holders Cresselly were too strong for a gritty Pembroke Dock team and then Hook took on Burton, local rivals and members of the top three for many years.
A much-closer tussle was envisaged here but in the final analysis Hook got on top at the outset and won with relative ease – so the final will be played between the two combatants from last season, at Stackpole, the traditional home of this T20 competition.
Match One:
Ffion blitzes a brilliant ‘ton’
Cresselly (186 for 3) beat Pembroke Dock (48 all out) by 138 runs
A brilliant undefeated 112, from only 61 balls, by Ffion Ashman sent holders Cresselly charging into the final as it formed a huge part of her side’s huge score and left Pembroke Dock with a mountain to climb and a poor start to The Dock’s innings meant there was no way back.
‘Ashy’s’ innings was arguably the most powerful ever seen in the history of the competition as it included 18 boundaries to all parts of Treleet after she came in at No early to replace another consistent batter in Meg Arthur. Lucy Johnson provided early support before she was run out but there were other cameos from Jess Gibby and Lauren Davies, plus 17 extras as The Dock bravely chased leather and never gave up in the field.
But The Dock were soon under pressure when they lost key openers Katy Griffiths and Carys Lloyd to Meg Arthur – and worse was to follow as from then on only No 3 Cheryl Hughes managed double figures against bowlers of the quality of Lucy Johnson, Eleri Williams and Claire Lewis, who have all played for the county.
Lauren Davies wrapped things up as she took the final wicket and Cresselly sped through to the final with wickets and deliveries in hand – but The Dock deserve every credit for battling their way into the last four, which was no mean feat!

Match Two:

Burton (95 for 6) lost to Hook (96 for 2) by 8 wickets
Hook reached the final against old rivals Burton, with their victory comparatively comfortable compared to some real battles in the past, as Burton were dismissed for fewer than three figures and Hook losing just two wickets in chasing it down in only 14 of their allotted 20 overs.
Hook struck early as Emilia Wilson shifted Rhiannon Morgan-Evans and Maisy Davies removed ace batter Finola England very early on before Lucy Neale was the third Burton batter to go.
Chloe Lewis led the come-back with 18 before she was run out but Becca Barton showed typical determination as she stroked a terrific 48 in as many balls but with bowling figures of for 18 from Maisy Davies alongside Emilia Wilson (1 for 10), plus miserly four-over spells by Kacey Arran and Tai Rees, Burton were restricted to a less-than challenging 95 for 6.
They were given the sniff of a chance however, when Hook’s opener Jemma Phillips was run out for a duck after only five balls, but then Kate Farr (21) maintained her consistent run which included three fours before county all-rounder Kacey Arran joined forces with county skipper Sam Rossiter in a match-winning partnership where both scored 34, with Kayleigh stroking four boundaries and Sam finding it five times.
The game was over relatively and now Hook will hope to gain revenge over Cresselly in the final, which should be a fascinating contest since both are very strong all-round teams and will relish a return to Stackpole for the big day in local ladies’ cricket.
