Haverfordwest win first ladies’ indoor cricket title

Congratulations to Haverfordwest Cricket Club’s ladies team on winning the inaugural indoor title by beating closest rivals Cresselly quite comfortably in the final match of the season at The Hub Community Centre in Neyland.
 
The teams had been locked together all the campaign and it was a fitting way to end the campaign as all the other clubs involved also took part in the final day before Haverfordwest captain Sam Rossiter received the champions’ salver from Lauren Arthur, who has recently been appointed as chairman of ladies cricket in our county.




 

Match No 4 – Cresselly (52 all out) lost to Haverfordwest (53 for 3)

 
The final match of the season between Cresselly and Haverfordwest was short-lived as Cresselly could only must 52 all out in six overs against some inspired bowling led by Awen Prysor, and The Town needed five overs to reach their target.
 
Yet such a low score from Cresselly was quite a surprise because they are strong in this department and although they lost ace run-maker Lucy Johnson early on, bowled by Leila Egelstaff, they soon raced to 34 for 1 in double-quick time.
 

Big hitting from Ffion but key wickets fall to Awen

 
Ffion Ashman showed her powerful hitting with three threes and a six to score 15 in only five deliveries but was then run out next ball, as was Hari Truman for 7.
 
Eleri Williams also belted 15 runs in only nine deliveries but was then one of Awen Prysor’s three wickets in her single over, caught and bowled before she also removed Chrissie Toy and Claire Lewis for ducks – and Cresselly had lost five wickets for only 15 runs!
 

Jo Price on the attack to help The Town to a speedy success

 
Jo Price then continued her impressive streak of run-gathering as she reached 25 before having to retire with six threes and a six to her name in only 12 balls.
 
At the other end Haverfordwest struggled as Eleri Williams (2 for 13) and Hari Truman (1 for 15) shifted Lyn Ward, Becky Wadia and Awen Prysor for a combined to total of only eight runs but skipper Sam Rossiter showed why she was a Welsh international in her younger days and still scoring runs outdoors for the Hook CC’s men’s team.
 
Sam had five threes and two singles in a clever 17 not out from just ten balls and was joined at the finish by Leila Egelstaff, with Jo Price still waiting in the wings if she had been needed.

Match One - St Ishmaels (58 all out) beat Pembroke (48 all out)

 
St Ishmaels won their second match of the campaign by beating Pembroke in the morning’s opener, where both teams had plenty of players and so everyone took part and although Pembroke ended up at the foot of the table they have had a rattling good time with support from Jack Harries and Luke Butler and have really improved over the season.
 
Leanne Johnston was the major contributor to Tish’s tally of 57 all out, with 4 threes and a four before she was run out, as was everyone else as a result of great Pembroke fielding, apart from last batter Leah Mitchell, who was bowled by Chloe James. Linzi Picton (8) was the next top scorer and there were 12 extras to boost their total and Pembroke had good bowling stints from Nicole White, Bobby Neale, Adele Millican and Leanne Panton.
 
But Pembroke also lost four wickets from run outs, including top scorer Chloe Jones, who scored 20, including 4 threes and extras added 16 runs but all the Tish bowlers and fielders kept things tight as Linzi Picton (2 for 6) and Kate Smith (1 for 4) took the wickets.
 
 

Match Two - Pembroke Dock (60 for 5) lost to Neyland (62 for 0)

 
Neyland confirmed their fifth place in the table as they comfortably accounted for sixth-placed Pembroke Dock B after bowling the opposition out cheaply and then reaching their target without losing a wicket.
 
The Dock B struggled with the bat as four of their first five batters had ducks and the other managed three runs against Jade Louise Major (2 for 21), Maddie Potter (1 for 4 in two overs!), Seren Jones (1 for 11) and Opal Rainer (1 for 7). Only No 6 Lowis Hughes ever looked comfortable and she was still there at the end with a smashing 23 not out (4 fours and 3 twos) as there were 30 extras to at least give them a semblance of a chance.
 
But Neyland were soon in total control as openers Sarah Arran and Opal Rainer started off at a cracking pace and scored 13, 19, 13 and 12 from the only four overs they needed, with Sarah finishing on 17 not out and with Opal remaining undefeated on 22.
 
 

Match Three – Burton (126 for 1) beat Pembroke Dock A (60 for 3)

 
Burton’s brilliant batting saw them achieve a huge tally against Pembroke Dock A, who were never able to get anywhere near the required run-rate and lost by 66 runs, and Burton moved into third place as they tied The Dock’s number of points but have a better run rate.
 
Finola Scale and Rebecca Barton gave Burton an ideal start as both reached 25 before retiring, having punished anything loose and running really well between the wickets.
Rhiannon Morgan maintained the momentum with a speedy 18 before she was caught by Kate Thomas off Michelle Wiggins and Sarah Sutton (14 not out) and Olivia James were still there at the end of their eight overs, with 23 extras boosting an already large total.
 
The Dock A were without a couple of key batters and lost Lana Jones early as Burton bowled and fielded well – but Ava and Kelly Midgeley batted well with respective scores of 25 (retired with 5 threes) and 21 not out (7 threes).
 
But they lost their last three players without a run between them as all the Burton bowlers had good bowling stats and Olivia conceded five runs in her two overs.
