Kevin is back with a cricketing bang!
Kevin Bowen is rightly regarded as one of the top three football referees in Pembrokeshire and up until about six years ago he was also held in high regard as an explosive hitter in cricket before he somehow stepped down from the summer sport.

But now Kevin is back with a huge bang because he has returned to enjoy a few games with Fishguard and Goodwick Cricket Club, who are currently playing their home games on Haverfordwest CC’s third pitch on The Racecourse, and in four innings so far, two of them not out, has amassed no fewer than 405 runs for an average of 202.5 – and those statistics include a third-ball duck in one match!
Kevin began his comeback against Johnston at Glebelands and slammed 123 not out – but then he was brought down to earth with a huge bump the next week on The Racecourse when Saundersfoot had him caught behind the wicket without a single run to his name.
But he was soon back in full flow as his team took on Narberth at Jesse Road and he not only scored a boundary-laden 110 but also claimed 4 for 30 after tea with the ball!
But all that paled into insignificance last Saturday as Fishguard & Goodwick entertained Llanrhian and he slammed 19 fours and eight very big sixes en route to 172 not out – and with typical understatement told us,
“The ball is coming off my bat quite sweetly at the moment and I’m enjoying my batting again!”
His runs have helped jet Fishguard & Goodwick into second spot in Division Four and this weekend they travel to Treleet to take on Pembroke Seconds – and if Kevin is allowed to get into attack mode then there could be a few balls flying across the road into the rugby club or towards the railway track at the other end!
