Butler bags big runs to help take league leaders’ 100% record
Pembroke (112 for 4) beat Neyland (111 for 4) by 1 run
After almost two years undefeated Neyland went down to the narrowest of defeats against a Pembroke sextet who confirmed the quality of their current team as Luke Butler caught the eye with some outstanding batting and their opening bowlers Callum Davies and Krunal Patel made sure that Sean Hannon’s team weren’t able to get off to their usual flying start.
Butler has been a model of consistency this campaign and he was joined by Gareth Long in reaching 50 before both retired - and when Butler returned towards the end of the innings he launched a fearsome attack on the Neyland bowlers after an unusual moment when his straight drive was accidentally stopped from being a four by hitting umpire Rob Bellerby.
Butler had already set off up the wicket and he was run out by miles - before umpire Bellerby sensibly called ‘Dead Ball’ and the relieved batsman repaid him by launching the next ball, and two others soon afterwards, for excellent sixes to finish on 47 not out in only 24 balls!
Jack Harries and Patel chipped in with double figures as Patrick Bellerby and Andrew Miller were the pick of the Neyland bowlers - but failed to fire on all cylinders when they opened the batting and found Davies and Patel difficulty to get away and they were only on 40 in the sixth over. Miller was unlucky as he was run out by a fantastic throw from almost the full length of the hall by teenager Jay Sutherland
Dai Davies batted well before he retired after facing only 18 balls but Brad McDermott and Davies became run-out victims as Pembroke fielded like demons - and although Jack Jones came in as last man and tries hard to snatch a victory he was left with seven runs needed off the last ball so his big six left Pembroke as worthy winners of a fantastic game that was the best that this aged reporter has seen for a number of years!
Pembroke Batting: Luke Butler 47*, Gareth Long 25*, Jack Harries 15, Krunal Patel 10
Neyland Bowling: Jack John 1-26, Patrick Belllerby 2-21, Dai Davies 1-29
Neyland Batting: Patrick Bellerby 13, Andrew Miller 14, Dai Davies 26*, Sean Hannon 15, Jack John 22*, Extras13
Pembroke Bowling: Jack Harries 1-32, Jay Sutherland 1-35 Callum Davies 0-21, Krunal Patel 0-23
Holder father and son help Hook to easy win
Hook (138 for 3) beat Pembs Seniors A (103 all out) by 35 runs

Matthew Holder originally arrived at The Hub this season to act as taxi-driver for his 14-year-old son Charlie but has been roped in to play for Hook over the last few weeks and has shown there is very much life in the old dog - and the pair were key figures in Hook’s latest win, over the Pembs Senior B team.
Both claimed two wickets each for relatively small runs conceded but it was the bat that they really excelled after Owen Phelps and Harry Makepeace got Hook of to a solid, if unspectacular start.
Matthew eventually retired on 25 but it was Charlie who gave the innings the real impetus as he blitzed 56 runs from only 24 deliveries, including an am making four sixes and as many fours.
Ian Milsom and Jonathan Williams were the only wicket-takers for the veterans and Williams came back to form with the bat as he blasted 44 alongside double figures for opener David Haynes and Nick Daley.
But they only managed 16 threes alongside three fours and a six but with 20 balls unscored from they were always behind the required run rate but at least had the consolation of reaching three figures as a sign of their growing confidence.
Hook Batting: Owen Phelps 15, Harry Makepeace 28, Matthew Holder 25*, Charlie Holder 56*
Seniors A Bowling: Ian Milsom 1-29, Jon Williams 1-45
Seniors A Batting: Jon Williams 44, Nick Daley 17
Hook Bowling: Matthew Holder 2-12, Charlie Holder 2-13, Aled Phelps 0-16
Cresselly win with ease as Herbie continue to struggle
Herbrandston (95 all out) lost to Cresselly (96 for 0) by 6 wickets

Cresselly showed what a useful team they have become this season because even without side key young players they were still too strong for a Herbrandston team which is struggling to field a settled side and, on this occasion, had club Secretary Gary Davies stepping in to help and at 63 years of age deserves a special mention for helping out at short notice.
Gary is a year older than Cresselly skipper for the evening Neal Williams, who is still a terrific indoor player, and alongside Tom Rowlands got their side off to a great batting start as they comfortably chased down Herbie’s total despite having a combined age of well over three figures.
Rowlands also showed terrific fielding skills in guarding the back wall and saving a shedful of runs, as son Ollie joined Lucien Thornton and Lewis Jones in bowling well.
For Herbie, Callum Power opened well and Karl Davies came back to something like his best form before skipper Robbie Hood and Tom Philpott batted well as the team struck 18 threes, a six and a four but also failed to score off 24 deliveries.
Then Cresselly’s ‘Golden Oldies’ then got off to a flying start with 50 runs in fewer than five overs and with father and son Lewis and Milo Jones also batting well Cresselly strolled home without losing a wicket and using up only 8.3 overs and having only 12 ’dot balls’!
Herbrandston Batting: Callum Power 27, Karl Davies 15, Robbie Hood 20, Tom Philpott 23
Cresselly Bowling: Ollie Rowland 1-31, Lucien Thornton 1-28, Lewis Jones 2-17, Neal Williams 1-15
Cresselly Batting: Neal Williams 25*, Tom Rowlands 27*, Milo Jones 22*, Lewis Jones 11*
Herbrandston Bowling: Tom Philpott 0-17, Ashley Britton 0-19
