Division 2 Scorers 'Who Count' in Pembrokeshire

Cricket Scorers Feature:

We were previously delighted with your response after we described the scorers in the first division and now we move on to the second division, where seven of the clubs are also lucky to have regular and experienced scorers who contribute to the game of cricket!

We would like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to them on our behalf, and on yours too!

Janice BrickJanice is just right for Pill Parks

Llangwm’s deserved promotion back into the first division was recorded by Janice Brick, who first started out in the Pill Parks scorebox when her sons Darren and Simon were playing and her brother, Jeffrey Saies, was the previous incumbent.

She then took a break but returned to help and been a great boast to the club with her ability to stay calm under the pressure of sometimes not having umpires or a scoring colleague from the other team.

Janice is a Llangwm through and through and is hugely popular with the players, who like us, recognise her contribution to the club on match days. Thanks Jan!

Nicola MurrayNicola’s hugely involved at Imble Lane

Nicola Murray is another very efficient scorer who is very much part of the overall team at Pembroke Dock Cricket Club as she is highly efficient and knows the game through and through.

She is very adept at using the ‘Play Cricket’ scoring system that sends the details around the country to followers of the game and is another who can stay calm enough to give details to the local press as the game is going ahead, which is no mean feat!

Janice WebbAnother Janice has stepped
in so well at Oatfield Park

Janice Webb has vast experience of scoring at cricket matches from the time her husband Paul was long-time captain of Whitland and as the excellent chairman of the Pembroke County Cricket Club and a regular in the Welsh Veteran’s set-up – and providing excellent support for him in all three roles.

But this season has seen her step in to score for Burton, who were without a regular recorder of scores at the club, because her son Matthew has been a regular in the first team – and has done a great job in using her undoubted expertise.

Steve Bennett  A mixed bunch at Herbie

There has undoubtedly been a mixed bunch at Herbrandston but the club deserves credit for making sure that they have always had a scorer! Steve Bennett played for years and now helps out in the scoring stakes as he often takes an innings apiece with Ryan Davies – whilst dad Gary also steps in if needed. Then there’s Clarrissa Lewis, who usually scores for the seconds but if they haven’t a game she helps out in the firsts – and shows the fellers how it should be done!

Helen HodgesHelen is the tops at Lamphey –
and respected by all

One of the most respected umpires in the county is Helen Hodges at Lamphey, who has certainly seen the ups and downs of the club, from winning the Harrison-Allen Bowl and League titles to relegations.

Helen has a calm approach to the role of scorer after experience gained over so many years, and is held in huge regard by all the players, who recognise her expertise in scoring and knowledge of the game – and another lady who is very patient with reporters of a certain age – 74!

Rose Jenkins Rose is a reluctant scorer –
but does a great job

Rose Jenkins does a huge amount of work for Kilgetty and has done so for many years – and her dedication to the club, where her husband Graham was s great players and does a fantastic job on the Kingsmoor pitch, is very evident.

So much so that although she finds it hard going to score because she isn’t 100% well, she has carried on regardless, despite having to cope with there being no umpires at matches and sometimes no-one alongside her from the opposition to score.

Rose is a born battler and despite some occasions this season where she wondered just why she was so involved – completed the season with her own inimitable sense of humour.

Natalie Thomas Natalie is one of the youngest – and most dedicated scorers in the county

Natalie Thomas is only 28 years old but has been scoring at Haverfordwest Cricket Club for over half that time after taking up the role under the watchful eye of Jayne Cole and has been there with the club’s second team through thick and thin, especially this season where they failed to win a single game – but she was there and doing a great job.

Her scorebook is an absolute picture and the players enjoy a read afterwards where her colour-coded system enables them to work out a whole range of statistics. She is also another young lady who is very adept at helping us tired old journalists stay well informed – thanks Nat!

All of the above have made a significant contribution to the well-being of cricket in the county and we at PembrokeshireSport.co.uk acknowledge their commitment – and would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all of them for their help throughout the Summer!
