Evans on song with the ball as Carew cruise against The Town

Carew 2nds (79 for 1) beat Haverfordwest 2nds (78 all out)

Scorers: Robert Hicks and Natalie Thomas.

Barry Evans took 4 for 19 for The RooksSkipper Barry Evans took 4 for 19 as Carew 2nds made quick work of Haverfordwest 2nds.

The Town were all out for 78, despite 33 from Max Rodriguez and 19 from very resilient skipper Nigel Morgan.

But alongside Evans, Jacob Knox helped keep The Rooks in control with 3 for 23, while the Waters duo of George (2 for 18) and dad Kerry (1 for 18) also bowled well.

Hayden Shapcott then hit 37 in the reply before falling to Mohammed Asher (1 for 12), and Gareth Lewis also notched 30 not out as Carew completed a double over Haverfordwest with their first team beating the same opponents.

The win also pulls Evans and co clear of relegation danger but for Morgan’s men, survival now looks a long way off as they lie bottom and 30 points off eighth-placed Kilgetty.

Herbie keep in touch at the top

Herbrandston (133 for 6) beat Lamphey (132 all out) by 4 wickets

Scorers: Clarissa Lewis and Helen Hodges.

Jonty Bennett struck 34 for HerbieHerbrandston moved third in the table after a good all-round display saw them beat Lamphey.

Both these sides were promoted in 2019, but are enjoying contrasting fortunes with Herbie in a great run of form while The Stags are ninth and fighting to avoid the drop.

Put into bat, Lamphey’s total of 132 all out looked short of par, despite a brisk 37 off 34 balls from opener David Blackwell (eight fours).

No 5 Lewis Haines also hit 31 (five fours) and Grant Cole boosted the lower order with 23 (three fours) – but no other batsman reached double figures as  Paul ‘Pickles’ Nicholas took 3 for 14, Rob Kingston 3 for 21, Kristan Bennett 2 for 41, and young Charlie Malloy 1 for 6 in seven overs.

Herbie did have some wobbles in the reply though as Harry Nicholas was bowled by Peter McGilloway without scoring.

Fellow opener Jonty Bennett hit 37 (four fours) and No 3 Jack Nicholas 22 (three fours and a six) before both fell to Hywel Gibbs, and with the score on 85 for 5 the game looked in the balance.

Kristan Bennett cracked 38 – 30 in boundaries – to push the hosts closer to the total before becoming Gibbs’ third victim, but with 23 still needed for victory it was Dai Malloy who kept his composure.

He made 25 not out (five fours) while Kingston just stayed with him to face 12 balls without scoring, as Herbie got home with four wickets in hand.

For Lamphey, Gibbs finished with 3 for 23, McGilloway 2 for 36 and David Dredge 1 for 45.

Hayman and Davies open up on Kilgetty

Kilgetty (130 all out) lost to Burton (133 for 0) by 10 wickets

Umpires: Rob Bellerby and Chris Stapleton.
Scorer: Rose Jenkins (Kilgetty)

Toby Hayman in good form with the bat for Burton. Picture Susan McKehonBurton openers Toby Hayman and Jack Davies made light work of their target of 131 to win as they knocked the runs off without either losing their wicket as Hayman finished on 75 not out, with Davies unlucky to finish unbeaten on 49, to take their side fourth in the table.

Kilgetty’s innings was led by Tom and Matthew Lewis, who hit 34 and 28 respectively, but despite brief knocks from Levi Hughes (14) and Darren Rees (13) the hosts never really got going.

For Burton, there was a tight spell from Davies (3 for 11), and also three wickets each for Johnny (3 for 31) and Morgan Scale (3 for 26).

It could have been a tricky chase but Hayman and Davies made it look simple with their unbeaten century stand, as Burton moved into fourth, whilst Kilgetty stay precariously placed, 14 points clear of the bottom two.

Nervy win for Llangwm as Hook fall just short at Pill Parks

Llangwm (177 all out) beat Hook (159 all out)

Umpires: Arthur Brady and Glyn Cole.
Scorer: Janice Brick (Llangwm)

It was a tense derby at Pill Parks as Llangwm cemented second place with a win over Hook.
But only after the visitors had made a real go of their 178 target in the second innings, eventually falling to 159 all out.

Noah Davies top scored for Llangwm with a well-constructed 50 – and there was also 30 from Richard Brock, 15 from Phil Llewellyn – and an important 26 not out from David Lewis to push the home side over 175.

But their powerful batting line up was never allowed to properly get away, as Callum James bowled really well in his 3 for 29 and there were wickets for Bradley Flood (2 for 48), Aled (2 for 25) and Jamie Phelps (2 for 12), and Brennan Martin (1 for 25).

It was the father and son duo who then led the Hook reply with the bat as Jamie, usually skipper of the second team, hit 51 and Aled 36 – while James completed a good all round display with 28.

But it was Llangwm who held their nerve as Steve Mills took 3 for 19, and he was backed up by Ollie Davies (2 for 25), namesake Noah (1 for 39), Luke Brock (2 for 21) and Llewellyn (2 for 12).

The result keeps the home side 21 points off the top, while Hook stay seventh.

The Dock stay on top with a derby day win

Pembroke Dock (180 for 9) beat Pembroke (131 all out)

Scorer: Nicola Murray (Pembroke Dock)

It was a big day at Imble Lane and ultimately, it was Pembroke Dock who won this local derby to maintain their unbeaten league run and keep their title charge on track.

Home skipper Scott Griffiths won the toss and opted to bat, and the two Jakes both got starts again as openers, with Davies making 22 before (two fours) and Griffiths a rapid 34 (five fours and a six) – before both were thwarted by catches from Jack Harries off the bowling of Rob Smythe and Jonathan Rogers respectively.

Captain Griffiths himself made 14 and Nick Daley 28 (four fours and a six), but with the hosts 149 for 9, it was No 7 Archie Hillier-Wood who really helped push the total to 180 for 9 with 41 not out (four fours), and was supported by last man Rob Hearne who was unbeaten on 17 (three fours).

For Pembroke, Rogers finished with 2 for 39, Smythe 1 for 36, Kevin Jenkins 1 for 9 – but Sam Davies was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 29.

But their reply got the worst possible start as Euan McDonald again caused chaos.
He removed Paul White (1), Harries (0), and Phil Hay (0) while Andrew Hay (0) nicked behind to Billy Wood to leave the score at 13 for 4.

It was there that Rogers and Butler rescued things though with a stand of 95, Rogers hitting nine fours to reach 58 before McDonald was again in the action – crucially catching the key man off Nick Daley’s bowling.

Daley also removed Butler for 41 (five fours), another caught behind by Scott Griffiths, and from there the visitors collapsed to 131 all out.

Daley finished with 3 for 26, McDonald 4 for 19, Hearn 1 for 32 and Wood 1 for 26.
