Pembroke County Cricket Club’s excellent sponsors Thomas Carroll rounded off a terrific sponsorship season with the final choice of their ‘Player of the Month’ and it is smashing to record the fact that for August they delved into division four.
 
And few could argue that their choice was a totally worthy one as county club chairman Paul Webb joined Thomas Carroll’s Brian Hawkins on a trip up to Glandy Cross to congratulate prolific run maker Richard Thorne.
 
Richard had shown his prowess earlier in the campaign with innings of 64 not out, 33 and 52 in his three previous innings but in August he really shone in the three matches that his club managed to complete as he scored 290 runs for an average of 145!
 
First he compiled 117 out of a total of 189 for 5 at home to Llangwm and also had good knocks of 85 not out and 85 respectively at St Ishmaels and Hundleton.
 
He was thrilled to receive his award from Paul Webb, who told us,
“We are delighted to be associated with Thomas Carroll and this monthly feature has been a great success.”
 
Brian Hawkins, who doubles up as Hon Secretary of the Manderwood Pembrokeshire Football League, added,

“We really enjoy being involved in local sport at Thomas Carroll and are very pleased that a player from Division Four has been this month’s deserved recipient.”
