Cricket Round Up - 2nd August 2025 by Bill Carne
Division Two:
Hook win a thriller at Tish, who stay top
St Ishmaels 164 for 9 (10) lost to Hook 167 all out (19) by 3 runs

There was high drama at St Ishmaels as the top of the table clash between them and Hook was only resolved from the final delivery of a tense afternoon after Hook reached a useful 167 all out and the home side amazingly recovered after looking down and out as they slumped to 97 for 9.
But then opener Peter Bradshaw found a willing accomplice in Andrew Williams, amazingly playing at No 11, and they built a super partnership in which Bradshaw reached 75 not out (including 7 fours and 3 sixes) alongside Williams’ priceless 18 not out, which left Tish needing four off the last ball of the 80 overs during the afternoon.
But Bradshaw’s swing brought only a single and Hook’s win took them into second place at the expense of Narberth.
Earlier in the match, Hook’s runs came in the main from Liam Miller, Owen and Aled Phelps as Brennan Devonald and especially Lewis Rhead bowled well for the home side.
Aled Phelps showed what a good all-rounder he is alongside a terrific spell by Brennan Martin to seemingly kill Tish off – but Hook were left waiting until that final delivery could play a huge part in who goes up to division one at the end of the season!
Hook Innings:
Owen Phelps 44, Liam Miller 35, Aled Phelps 38, Jack Phillips 10, Callum James 12
Brennan Devonald 3-20, Andrew Pawlett 1-31, Steve Williams 2-45, Lewis Rhead 4-22
St Ishmaels Innings:
Peter Bradshaw 76*, Jonathan Pawlett 10, Tom Williams 20, Andrew Williams 18*
Brennan Martin 4-13, Aled Phelps 3-29, Jack Phillips 1-24, Owen Phelps 1-22
Llanrhian keep hopes alive as Narberth drop out of top two
Narberth 100 all out (8) lost to Llanrhian 143 all out (19) by 43 runs

Llanrhian caused the upset of the day in the second division as they travelled to Narberth and came away with a deserved win which enhances their chances of avoiding the ‘dreaded drop’, whilst pushing their opponents out of the top two as for once they were able to produce their best eleven – and a rapidly-closing gap at the bottom after they had looked down and out at one stage.
When they batted first, Llanrhian had steady knocks from Russell Watkins, Jack Jones and Rhodri Owen (who was not out) whilst Narberth had a brace of wickets apiece from Lewis Jones, Harry Phillips and Llew Jones – but a target of 144 to win seemed withing Narberth’s compass if they batted well but only Shay Norcross ever looked settled, with minor knocks from Jack Tucker and Lewis Hough as they struggled almost from the start.
Llion Williams led the Llanrhian attack with an impressive four-wicket hall, ably assisted by Jack Jones and Dom Harty – and they gave a clarion call to other teams near the bottom that they are still alive and kicking, whilst Narberth must regroup if they want to go up ahead of their amazing day out at the Harrison-Allen Bowl Final.
Llanrhian Innings:
Russell Watkins 21, Jack Jones 26, Daf Williams 14, Paul Lewis 15, Rhodri Owen 24*
Lewis Jones 2-36, Llew Jones 2-12, Harry Phillips 2-30, Matthew Johns 1-6
Narberth Innings:
Shay Norcross 31, Jack Tucker 18, Lewis Hough 16
Llion Williams 4-17, Jack Jones 3-29, Dom Harty 2-25
Brace leads Pembroke to slender chance of going up
Cresselly 2nds 174 all out (7) lost to Pembroke 203 for 5 (20) by 29 runs

Pembroke made sure that they are still in with a mathematical chance of promotion as they accounted for Cresselly Seconds in a high-scoring game where they batted first and passed the 200-mark before limiting the home seconds, a mixture of youth and teenager talent, to win by a relatively narrow margin.
Leading the way for Pembroke was in-form opener Ceri Brace, with good support from fit-again Gareth Long, an excellent unbeaten knock, Paul ‘Chalkie’ White and Will Davies teenager Lee Mason was the pick of the home bowlers.
Then another talented teenager in Griff Jenkins scored the bulk of the Cresselly response but with Brace, Sam Davies and Richard Pullman all picking up two wickets young Jenkins didn’t quite get the support he needed and Pembroke are back in contention – but need a big win this Saturday if they are really to feature.
Pembroke Innings:
Ceri Brace 74, Will Davies 18, Paul White 37, Gareth Long 60*
Griff Jenkins 1-47, Corey Lewis 1-52, Ryan Lewis 1-24, Lewis Mason 2-39
Cresselly 2nds Innings:
Griff Jenkins 75, Ollie Arthur 12, Josh Lewis 13, Ryan Lewis 24, Corey Lewis 15
Lee leads ‘Glebelands Gang’ to comfortable home win
Johnston 228 for 7 (19) beat Llechryd (174 for 9) by 54 runs
Lee Summons showed what a class act he is for Johnston with the bat as he stroked his way to an unbeaten century at Glebelands against Llechryd, an innings that included 15 fours and two big sixes, with support from another in-form player Liam Boswell, with yet another half century, as Tom Cartwright and Duncan Blackburn were the best Llechryd bowlers.
Then Joe Mansfield topped the Llechryd response with his cracking unbeaten knock as Jamie Smith gave valued support but spinner Nicky Davies and Liam Boswell kept things tight and Johnston picked up big points as their reward!
Johnston Innings:
Lee Summons 100*, Lewis Boswell 55, Gino Cleal 15
Tom Lewis 1-31, Tom Cartwright 2-35, Johnnie Lewis 1-45, Evan Lewis 1-33, Duncan Blackburn 2-35
Llechryd Innings:
Joe Mansfield 77*, Jamie Smith 35, Tom cartwright 15*
Nicky Davies 3-19, Liam Boswell 2-15, Steve Mills Jnr 1-15, Lee Summons 1-40, Roshan Anyel 1-40
‘Carrot’ claims 5 wickets in Rooks’ 2nds victory
Burton 2nds 115 all out (4) lost to Carew 2nds 117 for 3 (20) by 7 wickets

Jeremy Griffiths has been a loyal servant of Carew Cricket for nigh on 40 years but the one-time batsman known to all as ‘Carrot’, because he used to have ginger hair, has reinvented himself as a slow bowler in his twilight years with The Rooks’ second string and capped it all with a five-wicket haul at Oatfield Park against Burton Seconds!
Burton had cameos from Aled Thomas, Jack Evans, Harry Owen and skipper Dan Griffiths but some of the lower order was totally mesmerised by Carrot’s canny slow stuff (‘Silver Fox’ might be more appropriate these days!) as they failed to set a challenging score.
Carew had one of their talented youngsters in Logan Hall as their not-out batsman at the base of their response with the ageless Nick Scourfield (who is even older than Mr J Griffiths) giving valued support as The Rooks’ Reserves picked up vital points with a win in only 24-3 overs, despite wickets from Aled Thomas, Harry Owen and Dan Griffiths.
Burton 2nds Innings:
Aled Thomas 21, Jack Evans 20, Harry Owen 19, Dan Griffiths 18
Jeremy Griffiths 5-31, George Waters 1-11, Logan Hall 1-11, Ethan Hall 1-24, Rhys Grigg 1-19
Carew 2nds Innings:
Logan Hall 41*, Nick Scourfield 29, Ethan Hall 14, Scott Richards 12
Harry Owen 1-20, Aled Thomas 1-24, Dan Griffiths 1-3
Division One:
Cresselly cruise to big win at Pill Parks
Llangwm 132 all out (5) lost to Cresselly 352 for 4 dec in 35 overs (20) by 220 runs

Cresselly slightly extended their lead at the top of the table at the expense of a Llangwm side which is finding it increasingly hard-going but keep going and encouraging each other all the way.
Batting first, Cresselly started like runaway trains and continued until they declared with such a massive total after 35 overs. Leading the was Phil ‘Taffy’ Williams, with a boundary-laden big century, ably assisted in a stand of 150-plus was co-opener Tom Murphy until he went for one six to many and lost his wicket.
As if that wasn’t enough No 3 Charlie Arthur then smote a rapid ‘ton’ and Kyle Quartermaine finished things off before the declaration gave Llangwm a bit of breathing space before they went in to bat – and deserved credit for reaching three figures for the first time in a while. Thanks to Ollie Davies, David Lewis and Mike Terry.
But Cresselly skipper Tom Arthur picked up another five wicket-haul as he is the top wicket-taker in the section at the moment, with Christian Phillips and Charlie Arthur claiming the rest in a huge win – but having watched part of this match we can only say a huge well-done to every Llangwm player for their total encouragement of each other and 100% effort at this very trying time for The Pill Parks club!
Cresselly Innings:
Phil Williams 128, Tom Murphy 75, Charlie Arthur 106, Kyle Quartermaine 22*
Gareth Broad 2-66, Chris Inward 1-45, Josh Davies 1-39
Llangwm Innings:
Ollie Davies 41, David Lewis 20, Mike Terry 25, Callum Jenkins 10, Jonathan Clout 19
Charlie Arthur 2-59, Christian Phillips 3-25, Tom Arthur 5-29
Rooks face a tougher battle than expected
Carew 214 for 6 (18) beat Burton 208 for 6 (8) by 4 wickets

Carew maintained their pressure on their neighbours at the top of the table although they might have expected a bigger margin of victory until Burton batted first and did well to reach such a sizeable score before The Rooks were never in trouble but lost six wickets in chasing down their target.
Jack Davies topped the Burton batting with an unbeaten half century, assisted by Luke Hayman and a few others who got started but then got out against a good Carew attack that was led by Iori Hacks but perhaps missing Shaun Whitfield for his wicket-taking capacity.
But Tim Hicks led the Carew response, supported by Rhys Davies and Ian Sefton, before the ageless Gareth Lewis, recalled to first-team duties, showed there is life in him yet with the runs alongside James Hinchliffe, that took Carew home.
Burton Innings:
Toby Hayman 15, Jon Venables 22, Dan Llewellyn 19, Joseph Kiff 28, Luke Hayman 40, Jack Davies 57*
Iori Hicks 3-30, Rhys Davies 1-37, James Hinchliffe 1-26
Carew Innings:
Tim Hicks 46, Rhys Davies 34, Morgan Grieve 10, Ian Sefton 38, Gareth Lewis 30*, James Hinchliffe 14*
Johnnie Scale 2-35, Gavin Campbell 1-45, Morgan Scale 1-40, Luke Hayman 1-48, Jack Davies 1-36
Herbie bag a big win at Whitland
Herbrandston 264 for 6 (19) beat Whitland 207 for 9 (8) by 57 runs

A powerful batting performance by Herbrandston saw them confirm their excellent fourth place in the top echelon whilst keeping Whitland pinned in the bottom three and needing points to keep their coveted status.
Nathan Banner confirmed his effect on the Herbie performances with a top score that was full of classy shots, including 12 fours and two sixes, alongside Harry Nicholas and minor contributions from others that kept the scoreboard ticking over despite the bowling of Geraint Thomas as the leading Borderers’ bowler.
Jonathan Thomas has long been the most consistent Borderers’ batsman and his 66 was again top score, helped by Gethin Scourfield, Ethan Ryan and Gopal Ramasamy, who belted three sixes and three fours in his usual lively manner – but Herbie skipper Robbie Hood and his brother-in-law Nathanl Banner shared four of the wickets that fell, as Paul ‘Pickles’ Nicholas made yet another first-team come-back alongside his twin boys and also bowled really well!
Herbrandston Innings:
Harry Nicholas 62, Charlie Malloy 26, Jack Nicholas 12, Nathan Banner 86, Dean John 12, Atticus Kingston 19*, Robbie Hood 11*, Extras 35
Geraint Jones 3-48, Jonathan Thomas 1-22, Ethan Ryan 1-51
Whitland Innings:
Gethin Scourfield 31, Ethan Ryan 25, Jonathan Thomas 66, Gopal Ramasamy 32,Tomos Jones 22

Saundersfoot ease home against former champs
Neyland 191 for 8 (6) lost to Saundersfoot 195 for 5 (19) by 5 wickets

Saundersfoot were delighted to beat Neyland to stand firmly in third place whilst the current champions find themselves in sixth spot, their lowest placing for many years as they struggle to currently cope with player availability.
Andrew Miller showed what a valuable club asset he still is with another top score, supported by brother Gregg, Brad McDermott-Jenkins and Ross Hardy in reaching their final tally, despite the bowling of Tom Mansbridge and Neil Powling.
On the scorebook it seemed a good score but The Seasiders batted positively as Nick Cope led the way with an unbeaten half century, helped along by the big-hitting Gareth Edwards (ten boundaries as he fell just short of a deserved 50) and the in-form Scott Helmich so that they reached their target in only 35.3 overs as Brad McDermott-Jenkins was the pick of the Neyland bowling attack.
Neyland Innings:
Gregg Miller 28, Andrew Miller 58, Ross Hardy 14, Dai Davies 31, Brad McDermott-Jenkins 23
Tom Mansbridge 3-27, Nick Cope 1-25, Neil Powling 2-32, Sam Franklin 1-33, Prashant Gautam 1-35
Saundersfoot Innings:
Tom Mansbridge 27, Gareth Edwards 49, Sam Franklin 11, Nick Cope 53*, Scott Helmich 27
Brad McDermott-Jenkins 2-20, Gary Lloyd 1-21, Andrew Miller 1-44, Ross Hardy 1-42
Lawrenny batting too strong for The Town to tackle
Lawrenny 269 for 6 (19) beat Haverfordwest 183 all out (7) by 86 runs

Lawrenny’s powerful batting line-up sent Haverfordwest a step nearer division two as they amassed a big score which put them in good stead when The Town tried manfully to give chase – but fell 86 runs short to keep them in the bottom two.
Rhys Eynon top scored for the home side and there were half centuries for Harry Thomas and Finley Lewis, who was not out as Alfie Buckle chipped in well and a total of 39 extras certainly didn’t help as Simon Williams’ left-arm slow stuff saw him lead Haverfordwest’s bowling.
Shan Perreira came close to 50 as Paul Tough, Doug Johnson and Chris Phillips looked good but got st key times against Oscar Lewis and Ryan Morton led the Lawrenny attack – and 19 points to Haverfordwest’s seven!
Lawrenny Innings:
Harry Thomas 58, Alfie Buckle 31, Rhys Eynon 68, Finley Lewis 50*, Extras 39
Will Phillips 1-50, Simon Williams 3-32, Jake Merry 1-74, Chris Phillips 1-27
Haverfordwest Innings:
Nitin Mathias 14, Paul Tough 24, Shan Perreira 49, Doug Johnson 22, Chris Phillips 32, James Marchant 12*
Rob Williams 1-35, Jamie Lewis 1-30, Fin Lewis 1-16, Ryan Morton 3-30, Oscar Lewis 4-43
