Cricket Round - Up - Final Week - 25th August 2025

Champions Carew with the trophy

Division One:

The Rooks are deserved champions!

Carew 278 for 8 (20) beat Neyland 153 all out (7) by 125 runs

Delighted Carew skipper Rhys Davies with the trophyCongratulations to Rhys Davies and his talented team at Carew as they gained the coveted trophy for the first time since 2017 – and they did it in style by beating previous champions Neyland with a powerful batting performance followed by a good finish, despite the unlikely batting heroics of last pair Danny Potter and Sam Laugharne.

Adam Chandler and Shaun Whitfield led The Rooks to a huge total, assisted by those below – and then Whitfield took 3 for 11 in nine miserly overs and skipper Rhys Davies was almost as tight-fisted with  2 for 15 from his stint, with Danny Potter and Sam Laugharne adding 52 runs from their battling last-wicket stand!

It gave them the silverware ahead of their nearest neighbours and in this healthy rivalry it almost made the success somehow sweeter after their vital local-derby win the previous week!

Carew Innings:
Tim Hicks 30, Adam Chandler 63, Ian Sefton 20, Morgan Grieve 28, Shaun Whitfield 57, Brian Hall 23, Noah Davies 26*, Extras 26

Cresselly have to settle for second spot

Herbrandston 117 all out (5)  lost to Cresselly 308 for 6 (20) by 191 runs

Dean John struck 60 and took 3 for 52 for HerbrandstonCresselly were forced to settle for second place after losing to arch-rivals Carew the previous week, but they finished on a grand note as they smashed their way the 300 mark and eventually shot out a Herbrandston side which played well below the form that has seen them finish in the top half of the table.

Charlie Arthur (8 fours and a six) joined Alex Bailey (a boundary-laden knock late on) and the others listed below in creating that large total.

Herbie then struggled against Charlie Arthur and skipper Tom Arthur, who shared six wickets – and only Dean John showed what a very good all-rounder he is with a blistering innings of 60!

Herbrandston Innings:
Harry Nicholas 15, Rhys Power 10, Dean John 60, Extras 15
Dan James 2-39, Charlie Arthur 3-30,  Christian Phillips 2-28, Tom Arthur 3-17

Burton end on a winning note – The Town go down!

Burton 195 for 7 (20) beat  Haverfordwest 194 all out (7)  by 3 wickets

Joe Kiff hits a big six for BurtonBurton continued their good form of the second half of the season as they beat Haverfordwest, who were doomed because Whitland had won at Llangwm, with The Town having Paul Tough topping the list with a half century against tight bowling by Luke Hayman, Gavin Campbell and Jack Davies.

It was never going to be an easy target but with Joseph Kiff and Toby Hayman the principal run-getters the Oatfield Park Mob had eight balls and two wickets in hand as they finished in seventh sport, well away from the relegation places, leaving Haverfordwest to regroup in the second division next year!

Wayne Howells bowls well for Whitland

Llangwm go close to first victory – but Whitland stay safe

Llangwm 224 all out (9) lost to Whitland 228 for 8 (20) by 2 wickets

Llangwm finished on a good note before relegation as they rattled up their highest score of the season, pushing Whitland all the way before they made sure they didn’t go down themselves.

Ollie Davies, Dai Lewis and Iwan Griffiths made sure Llangwm got off to a good start as veteran bowler Wayne Howells belied his years to finish as the best Whitland bowler before Gethin Scourfield, skipper Ed John and especially Steve Jones batted well despite the left-arm spin wizardry of Callum Jenkins in a tight finish.

Llangwm Innings:
Ollie Davies 25, David Lewis 49, Iwan Griffiths 35, Johnny Palmer 25, J Davies 21, Mike Williams 29, extras 19
Gopal Ramasamy 1-43, Iwan Bevan 1-41, Jamie Thomas 3-48, Wayne Howells 4-38

Ryan Morton grabbed six wickets for the home side as 29 from John Mansbridge was The Seasiders’ top score and Oscar Lewis also grabbed three wickets before his big brother Finley and Troy Purslowe were not out as Lawrenny recovered in a 70+partnership after collapsing to 31 for 4 at one stage!

Tish skipper Jonathan Pawlett with the Division Two trophyTish make a speedy return to the top echelon as they won at Glebelands but it was a close-run thing after Phil Llewellyn led the Tish batting despite four wickets shared by brothers Steve and Jack Mills for Johnston.

Lee Summons had scored two centuries and a half century in his previous three innings and he notched another 50 here alongside Leigh Walters and Steve Mills as there were three wickets each for Tish bowlers Brennan Devonald, Andrew Pawlett and Steve Williams.

Huge win for Narberth and promotion achieved

Narberth 276 for 4 (20) beat  Carew 2nds 72 all out (4) by 204 runs

Loui Davies - superb 138 not out for NarberthNarberth were forced to settle for second spot in the section despite a massive win against now-relegated Carew Seconds by over 200 runs – with Loui Davies showing his immense stroke play with 20 fours and a six in his sparkling innings of 138 not out, ably assisted by skipper Lewis Hough and Shay Norcross.

Dai Rees used all his experience to top score for Carew but the twin-pace attack of Llew Jones (5 wickets) and Lewis Jones (4 wickets) saw Narberth as very good value and must have put them in very good heart for the Harrison-Allen Bowl Final next Saturday.

Llanrhian avoid the ‘dreaded drop’ with last-man boundary

Llanrhian 156 for 9 (19)  beat Pembroke155 for 9 (9) by 1 wicket

Rhys Meredith-Barrett - hit the boundary to keep Llanrhian safeLlanrhian created their own version of ‘The Great Escape’ when last man Rhys Meredith-Barrett became their unlikely hero as his well-struck boundary in the final over against Pembroke gave them a one-wicket win – and then news filtered through that Carew 2nds had been smashed at Narberth so they retained their second-division status.

It was a remarkable transition for them because at the half-way stage of the season they were ninth in the table and already a massive 34 points adrift of The Rooks’ Reserves and with talented youngster George Morgan and golf professional Luke Harries, playing alongside his bother skipper Jack and father Spencer, called back from the mists of time to help out, Pembroke had reached a sizeable score at Llandigige Fawr.

Paul Lewis and star player Jack Jones got Llanrhian on the way but they still needed four runs in that final over with Daf Williams at the other end and Rhys ready to play the most important shot of his life as the ball flew to the boundary and some real celebrations took place at ‘The Sloop’!

Llanrhian Innings:
Paul Lewis 32, Jack Jones 48, Llion Williams 19, Daf Williams 13*
Billy Wood 2-36,  Gareth Long 2-29, George Morgan 2-38, Sam Davies 1-25, Bowyn Clark 1-8

Gareth Long 12, George Morgan 44,  Luke harries 33, Bowyn Clark 12
Jack Jones 2-25, Llion Williams 1-26, Gwyn Watson 3-15, Rhodri Owen 3-28

Burton drop down but Dan sends them off on a high note

Cresselly 2nds 263 all out (9) lost to Burton 2nds 318 for 8 (20) by 55 runs

Matthew Davies - 6-wicket haul for Burton 2ndsDan Ridge - 120 runs for Burton 2nds in 93 ballsBurton Seconds were already relegated as they faced their counterparts from Cresselly but ended their campaign n  a high note as the Ridge Brothers sent them to their highest score of the campaign and they defied the efforts of talented teenager Griff Jenkins and the somewhat older Neal Williams when Cresselly started their response.

Dan smashed  120 from 93 balls (13 fours and four sixes) from his No 5 berth and Will came in at No 7 and struck 49 in only 30 deliveries – with Matthew Davies as another star as he followed his innings of 57 with a six wicket haul!

Griff and Neal then shared an opening stand of 139 before the teenager departed and although there were cameos from players old and young Cresselly were unable to get anywhere near the target set but finished in a creditable seventh place as their conveyor belt of youthful talent continues!

Cresselly 2nds Innings:
Neal Williams 78, Griff Jenkins 79, Lewis Mason 16, Ollie Arthur 17, Stefan Jenkins 15, Ryan & Josh Lewis 11
Aled Thomas 1-39, Dan Griffiths 2-48, Matthew Davies 6-43, Joe John 1-26

Hook finish third with easy home victory

Hook 100 for 2 (18) beat Llechryd 97 all out (4) by 8 wickets

Brennan Martin - runs and wickets for HookHook finished third for the third season in a row as they ended their campaign on a high note as they faced a jaded-looking Llechryd side which had reached sixth spot and might have been even higher at one stage.

Tomos Lewis top-scored for Llechryd but they were unable to build any partnerships of note against gool all-round Hook bowling and fielding, with the home team giving a chance to some of their normally lower-order batsmen in Brennan Martin, Wil Goronwy and Callum James as they took fewer than 12 ovrs as Brennan belted 7 fours and two sixes en route to his top score!

Hook Innings:
Brennan Martin 47, Callum James 18, Will Goronwy 17*, Lewis Miller 19*
Jaap Harries 1-27, Jamie Smith 1-36

Llechryd Innings:
