UMPIRES:
Trefor Evans
Retired Head Teacher
Trefor is rightly regarded as the doyen of local umpires, having stood in the middle now for 27 years, and as a result officiating in his fifth Harrison-Allen Bowl Final, emulating the late Cyril Evans as the only pair to have achieved this impressive total.
He has been actively involved with Whitland Cricket Club, whom he has served as player, captain, committee and official, for 45 years and has furthered his service to Pembrokeshire by being a very active member of the Pembroke County Cricket Club for over 20 years, where he has been assistant hon secretary, vice chairman, chairman and now president – and in all three areas he is rightly proud to be a life member., as he is in his rugby interest based on schools, county and the senior game at Whitland RFC.
He has officiated a two-day game between Wales and the MCC in Swansea – and an unknown fact could be that he was goalkeeper for Montgomeryshire Schools FA from 11 to 18!
Jonathan Willington
Lead Specialist Waste Policy Advisor
with Natural Resources Wales
As well as having a strong claim to the longest job description in the county, Jonathan will be umpiring in his first Harrison-Allen Bowl Final after seven years wearing his white coat at cricket matches, after many years as a very talented all rounder at Bosherston & Stackpole Cricket Club, where he was a very powerful stroke player and deceptively fast bowler off a short run-up. Later, when he moved across the Cleddau Bridge with his wife Lisa, plus sporting sons Seth and Oscar, and has really been an asset to them in terms of playing and then coaching.
He also, with Steve Lewis (Lawrenny), restarted the Pembrokeshire Youth team, which had been ceded to the regional set-up, and under the name ‘Pembrokeshire Vikings’ created a real team spirit to talented youngsters across the county, even down to providing them all with special commemorative caps.
He has rightly earned the reputation of being a good communicator with players (he learned that at Stackpole!) but as an umpiring official who knows the rules and doesn’t suffer fools gladly – and along with Trefor forms a top umpiring duo for such an important game.
SCORERS:
Gwyneth Johns

Gwyneth has become a matriarchal figure at Narberth, where her husband Mike played until well into his 70s as a classy opening batsman – and also heavily involved have been sons Davy and Matthew, who will be playing in the final after helping Haverfordwest win the coveted trophy when he was younger, and is also playing for Wales B in his Seniors’ age group. Matthew’s son Oliver is the next Johns to look like being a good cricketer since he has played for West Wales.
Gwyneth used to score for the seconds when her boys were younger and took over from Idwal Vincent in the first team. She is now very much back in action as the first team scorer, is the club’s vice-chairperson and deservedly a Life Member after over a decade or running the club’s tote system, which has raised the money to help improve the club’s facilities and equipment.
Sarah Arran
Sarah is the daughter of former top Neyland cricketer Arthur Arran so the club has always been part of her life. She was introduced to cricket by her Godfather, Jack Capon of Rosemarket and Neyland, and loved the game from a young age. She played in a very successful Neyland Ladies team in the Pembrokeshire Ladies league in the 90’s and also captained Neyland Ladies when they reformed - and is looking forward to making yet another come-back in the future if she can.
Sarah has also represented Neyland Ladies AFC, playing in goal and defence, proving that cricket wasn’t her only sport. She was also a useful golfer too in her teens. Sarah scored alongside John Laugharne last season and fondly remembers their time together. Sarah is hoping to get through the day with her well-known supply of sweets, fizzy water and power banks for Play Cricket!
