2021 Indoor Cricket - the final word on stats
After all the action in this year’s indoor cricket campaign we have to thank Patrick Hannon for these fascinating statistics in the top echelon.
He has provided the stats for EVERY player who took part but we can only show the top ten in our limited space so thanks Patrick!
We have shown them for the most wickets and runs, as well as the averages, but we firmly believe that the averages are often skewed because some players have done well but only played two or three games – but they still make interesting reading!
All we have left after this article is to say a hearty ‘well done’ to those who have done so much work to ensure indoor cricket 2021’s success – and that will come tomorrow!
Batting – ‘A’ League Most Runs Scored
The final battle to be top run-maker for the 2021 season in the top echelon of local indoor cricket was finally settled as Dai Davies, the skipper of basement battlers Haverfordwest, fended off the strong challenges of Nick Koomen, (Neyland A) and George Evans (Neyland B).
All three have been models of consistency throughout the campaign but Davies’ runs came as he literally shored up The Town’s flimsy batting on a weekly basis and his total of 312 runs saw him win by 42 runs despite playing a game fewer than Koomen, with Evans another 38 runs adrift from the same number of appearances at the crease.
In fourth spot, but having played only six times because of illness and unavailability, was Jonathan Strawbridge (Llanrhian), who looked a hot favourite to top the batting stats until he missed matches.
Surprisingly, the champions Neyland A only had Koomen and Gregg Miller (9
th with 163 but in only seven matches) whilst Strawbridge was the only one on the list from runners-up Llanrhian.
Pembroke Dock A had the most batsmen in the top ten with George Smith in fifth place (203) skipper Scott Griffiths in seventh (172) and Rhys Daley (10
th with 156), whilst Narberth had two in 6
th and 8
th respectively in captain Jordan Howell (191) and Loui Davies (168).

Batting – ‘A’ League Highest Averages
In terms of averages there were four players who finished up with three figures to their names, not least because they had so many not outs to their names after retiring on the cut-out point of 25 before returning after everyone else had had a chance and there were overs left.
Four batsmen had three-figure averages and Nick Koomen showed just why he is regarded as one of the best ever exponents of the indoor game as in his ten innings he was not out an amazing eight times and so finished with an average of 135!
Then came Jonathan Strawbridge (123) and Lewis Hough (109.5), from fewer innings, before Dai Davies also weighed in with 104 as he had six unbeaten innings from nine starts.
The best of the rest? Nigel Delaney certainly led Llanrhian by example in fifth place after being dismissed only twice in eight innings, one of them run out without scoring! His average of 71.5 showed why he has always been held in high regard since the days he did just as well at Haverfordwest – and some of his experience certainly rubbed off on his time because Iwan James came seventh (56) and Daf Williams came ninth (47.33) to give Llanrhian four of the top ten performers!.

Bowling - A League Most Wickets
In the ‘Most wickets’ section there were two wickets for George Smith (Pembroke Dock A) in their final game against Narberth which saw him share first place with eight wickets alongside Tom Pritchard (Neyland B) and Karl Davies (Llanrhian) and each received a memento – although Pritchard might lay claim to top spot by dint of the fact that his economy rate per over was the best of the three.
Congratulations also go to talented teenager Kieran Arran (Neyland A) who played in his first season and had seven wickets alongside another newcomer in Dan Hopley (Haverfordwest), and Daf Williams, who also showed his all-round ability for Llanrhian.
Another teenager in Rhys Daley (Pembroke Dock A) claimed six wickets and it was also nice to see other newcomers in Phil Keen (Neyland B) and Kyle Williams (Narberth) join Koomen on five wickets.

Bowling - A League Best Average
The best averages for bowlers weren’t quite as representative because the top three in Nathan Banner (Neyland A), Matty Delaney (Llanrhian) and Ross Hardy (Neyland A) played few times to lead from Kyle Williams (Narberth) and Jamie White (Pembroke Dock A) who bowled more –but Messrs Pritchard and Karl Davies shared 31 overs as real work-horses.

George Smith is the top all-rounder
**With regard to all-rounders, there were three players who featured in the ‘Most runs’ and ‘Most wickets’ sections with George Smith (Pembroke Dock A) having the best overall figures with fifth in the batting and third in the bowling – so well done George!
Nick Koomen was second in the batting and 10
th in the bowling, whilst Rhys Daley did well to achieve 10
th in the batting and 7
th in the bowling, to also confirm their right to be considered true all-rounders of the indoor game!**
