Cricket Round-Up - 28th June 2025

Division One:

Neyland (58 all out) lost to Cresselly (59 for 5) by 5 wickets

Cresselly bounced back from mid-week cup defeat with a win against current champs Neyland in a surprisingly low-scoring at The Athletic Ground where the home side were bundled out for their lowest score for a long time as only Andrew Miller managed double figures and remained unbeaten as he watched players come and go at the other end.

Charlie Arthur was the main strike bowler for The Doves and canny ‘old timer’ Christian Phillips and skipper Tom Arthur did the rest of the damage as the innings ended after 26 overs.

Then Arthur showed his worth to the Cresselly team  as they also found it hard going against Ross Hardy, Sean Hannon and Andrew Miller – his 32 including four fours and a six after openers Phil Williams and Morgan Lewis could only muster two runs between them against Hardy – and Alex Bailey kept a cool head in steering The Doves back to the top of the table in 15.2 overs!

Neyland Innings: Andrew Miller 19*, Extras 11
Charlie Arthur 4-17, Christian Phillips 3-5, Tom Arthur 2-13
Cresselly Innings: Charlie Arthur 32, Alex Bailey 12*

Lawrenny (136 for 8) beat Carew (135 all out) by 2 wickets

Finley Lewis - shared 7 wickets with his younger brothersOscar Lewis - runs and wickets for Lawrenny in a low scoring gameLawrenny gained their first league victory in four seasons over neighbours Carew in a hard-fought contest where they edged home by two wickets as Alfie Buckle held his nerve and as a result The Rooks were knocked off their perch at the top.

Brian Hall and the in-form Shaun Whitfield led the Carew batting but the Lewis boys: Jamie and brothers Oscar and Finley were the chief Lawrenny wicket-takers.

Whitfield and skipper Rhys Davies applied pressure with their bowling skills, with Davies conceding only eight runs from his nine miserly overs. But Will Allen gave Buckle much needed support alongside an important 21 from ‘Mr Extras’ to leave The Rooks just four points behind Cresselly as a result.

Lawrenny Innings: Will Allen 23, Alfie Buckle 28*, Extras 21
Shaun Whitfield 3-39,  Rhys Davies 2-8, Iori Hicks 1-7

Llangwm (94 all out) lost to Haverfordwest (296 for 7) by 202 runs

Dan Field - top scorer with 73 for Town at Llangwm. Picture Gordon ThomasA blitz with their bats in the second half of their innings saw Haverfordwest reach their biggest total of the season at Pill Parks and then Llangwm found the challenge to be too great as they lost by over 200 runs in an important basement battle.

Ben Field and his brother Dan, who belted five huge sixes, batted really well early on before lower-order batsmen Rhys Sewell and skipper Chris Phillips (6 fours and 3 sixes) launched a vital late assault despite two wickets apiece from Toby Asson and Luke Brock.

Then Llangwm started really badly against talented young pace bowler Fin Atyeo, old-timer Clive Tucker and Jac Peters so that only Llangwm captain Olie Davies ever stayed long and was unable to find the support needed from his relatively experienced team.

Llangwm Innings: Ollie Davies 31, Extras 18
Fin Atyeo 2-19, Clive Tucker 2-15, Jack Peters 3-39
Haverfordwest Innings: Ben Field 46, Dan Field 73, Rhys Sewell 69, Chris Phillips 51*, Extras 28

Saundersfoot (197 all out) lost to Herbrandston (198 for 9) by 1 wicket

Morgan Britton runs and wickets for Herbie teenagerSaundersfoot remain in the top three after this narrow defeat by Herbrandston, who closed the gap on the top three as they again showed their ability against a fae more experienced team – and had 15 year old Morgan Britton at the crease after producing an all-round display that was way beyond his years, alongside another teenager in Charlie Malloy.

John and Tom Mansbridge again featured in taking The Seasiders to their big score alongside Sam Franklin, Scott Helmich and Sam Franklin, with experienced old timers in Dean John and Nathan Banner taking the bulk of the wickets for Herbie.

Herbie were in real trouble at 40 for 4 when Malloy and Britton joined forces and their fifth-wicket partnership produced 115 runs, despite the previous efforts of Franklin, Nick Cope and the Mansbridge boys to shift them they could only remove Malloy – and it was appropriate that Britton was there at the finish to hit the winning runs!

Saundersfoot Innings:  John Mansbridge 51, Scott Helmich 25, Tom Mansbridge 31
Morgan Britton 2-20, Dean John 3-29, Nathan Banner 3-46

Whitland (204 for 6) beat Burton (202 for 6) by 4 wickets

Jonathan Thomas - another classy innings for WhitlandWhitland were deserved winners of this high-scoring match against Burton, who batted first and passed the 200 mark to establish hopes of starting the second half of the season well but it was The Borderers who held sway as all-rounder Jonathan Thomas led the way.

Toby Hayman found his form with top score for Burton, assisted by Dan Llewellyn, Jack Morgan and Dan Ridge as Gethin Scourfield bowled well and then contributed well with the bat to show what a good all-rounder he is becoming.

Thomas then contributed his classy runs before Scott Newton and Nico Setaro showed they are more than just rugby players as they shared the partnership that produced the final 40 runs needed!

Whitland Innings: Gethin Scourfield 45, Jonathan Thomas 74, Scott Newton 29*, Nico Setaro 15*
Luke Hayman 2-43, Dan Ridge 3-33, Morgan Scale 1-29

The Phelps family trio

Division Two:

Burton (91 all out) lost to Hook (265 for 4) by 194 runs

Hook stayed in contention at the top of the table as Aled, Owen and especially Rhys Phelps featured alongside Liam Miller in building a huge team total at Oatfield Park before only Will Ridge and Matthew Davies replied for Burton Seconds against attacking bowling by Callum James, Brennan Martin and Jack Phillips.

It meant that Hook stay fourth on 155 points whilst Burton remain bottom of the section on just 54 points and in distinct danger of going back down..

Burton Innings: Will Ridge 39, Matthew Davies 29
Callum James 4-13, Brennan Martin 2-27, Jack Phillips 2-30

Hook Innings: Aled Phelps 27, Rhys Phelps 103*. Owen Phelps 70’ Liam Miller 44*

Cresselly 2nds (198 for 9) beat Narberth (195 for 9) by 1 wicket

Stefan Jenkins - still life in the old dog for Cresselly 2ndsCresselly Seconds caused one of the shocks of the day be squeezing home by just one wicket against Narberth, who remain top but can’t afford too many defeats like this if they are to return to the top echelon.

Jack Tucker topped the Narberth batting, ably assisted by Ryan Williams and Ashleigh Williams 32 not out, as Lewis Mason bowled well for Cresselly Seconds.

Chasing 196 for victory was no easy challenge but Neil Williams, Josh Lewis and especially ‘old war-horse’ Stefan Jenkins defied useful bowling by Llew Jones (five wickets) and Loui Davies to take a massive points haul that sees them safely ensconced in the top half of the table.

Cresselly Innings: Neal Williams 37, Josh Lewis 37, Stefan Jenkins 54
Lewis Jones 5-50, Loui Davies 2-33

Narberth Innings: Jack Tucker 71, Ryan Williams 37, Ashleigh Williams 32*
Lewis Mason 2-43

St Ishmaels (188 for 7) beat Llanrhian (94 all out) by  94 runs

Lewis Rhead - cracking 84 runs for Tish openerSt Ishmaels maintained their winning streak and second place in the table as they comfortably accounted for a Llanrhian side which was rarely in the hunt with bat and ball.

Leading the way for Tish with the bat was Lewis Rhead, opening the innings for the first team this season after returning from injury, with runs also coming from Jonathan Pawlett as Daf Williams and Llion Williams battled hard to keep the run rate down.

But Llanrhian lost early wickets to the pacy Brennan Devonald so that only James Morris ever looked settled, and the canny slow stuff of Andrew Pawlett as Llanrhian were all dismissed in 26.1 overs as they remain in 9th slot in the table and still in the ‘danger zone’.

St Ishmaels Innings: Lewis Rhead 84, Jonathan Pawlett 27, Extras 19
Daf Williams 3-36, Llion Williams 2-34
Llanrhian Innings: James Morris 39*

Scorer: Wendy Bradshaw

Steve Mills - took wickets and scored runs for Johnston

Johnston (140 all out) lost to Pembroke (172 for 8) by 32 runs

Ceri Brace - cracked a crucial 55 for Pembroke at JohnstonPembroke’s visit to Glebelands ended in a comfortable win and third-place in the table as their score of 172 for 8 proved too much for the home side’s batting line-up.

Ceri Brace and Jack Harries got Pembroke off to a steady start that was continued by Richard Pullman and Andrew Price, despite the bowling efforts of Stephen-James Mills and Lee Summons, both of whom then lead their batting with top scores.

But they got out at vital times to Bowyn Clark, George Morgan and Brace – and no-one else was able to take up the challenge strongly enough so that ‘The Glebelands Gang’ remain seventh.

Johnston Innings: Lee Summons 31, Stephen-James Mills 49, Liam James 15*
Bowyn Clark 4-16, Ceri Brace 2-24, George Morgan 2-16

Carew 2nds (132 all out) lost to Llechryd (172 for 9) by 40 runs

Graham Keen - played really well in Llechryd winLlechryd were good value for an away victory over Carew 2nds as they batted first, built up a decent score and then kept the lid on the opposition’s run-making prowess to claim maximum points.

Tomos Lewis, Joe Mansfield and Jac Davies were the main Llechryd run-getters as Corey Hall, Jeremy Griffiths and Jonty Bennett shared six wickets for The Rooks’ Reserves – who than had Tom Scourfield back in action and leading the chase with 44 runs.

But Graham Keen claimed four wickets for Llechryd, helped by Florian Cartwright and Joe Davies, as they eased home by 40 runs.
