First Division:

Another convincing win for runaway league leaders

Neyland (112 for 0) beat Carew (108 all out) by 10 wickets

Umpires: Richard Merriman & Mervyn John
Scorers: John Laugharne & Julie Davies

Carew travelled to league leaders Neyland with something of a depleted side and paid the inevitable price as they limped to 108 all out and then found home openers Nick Koomen and Ashley Sutton in great form as they strolled home in fewer than 23 overs.

Put in to bat first, Carew were soon in big trouble as the ball seemed to stop a little and they were quickly in the mire at 29 for 4 and then 41 for 6 as Nathan Banner (3 for 24) and Henry Durrant (3 for 12) caused mayhem.

Gareth Lewes and Luke Hicks tried hard to redress the balance and a seventh-wicket stand of 48 where Lewis stroked two boundaries in his 24 and Hicks smashed two massive sixes into the breeze before he tried for a third and was superbly caught by Nick Koomen, running around on the ‘cow corner’ boundary as part of Andrew Miller’s 2 for 31 stint.

Nick Davies (15) and Iori Hicks (13) also made double figures for Carew as Geraint Rees also grabbed 2 for 5 in eight balls to wrap things up for an early tea.

In sharp contrast, home openers Koomen and Sutton were quickly into their stride with some excellent running between the wickets and with any loose deliveries despatched to the fence.

They quickly closed in on their target as Koomen had eight fours in his 51 not out and Sutton was even faster with six fours and three big sixes in his undefeated 54 - and Neyland moved ever-closer to the league silverware as their reward.

Seasiders gain vital Racecourse result

Haverfordwest (125 all out) lost to Saundersfoot (218 for 7) by 93 runs

Umpires: Simon Richards & Bob Elliott
Scorers: Jayne Cole & Adge John

Saundersfoot considerably eased their worries about being in the bottom four in the table as they deservedly beat Haverfordwest on The Racecourse as they built a sizeable score before tea and then shot out The Town for a paltry 125 runs.

Put in to bat, Saundersfoot started off really well as openers Tom Mansbridge and Danny Caine took the score to 44 in less than eight overs before Caine was bowled for 19 be Lee Summons as part of a 1 for 29 spell.

Mansbridge was then joined by Sam Franklin (19) in taking the total into the 80s in the 15th over, with Mansbridge playing his wide array of shots as he sailed past 50 and after Franklin’s departure Mansbridge reached 79 (including eight fours and two sixes) and when he got out there were other cameos for Simon Stanford (26), Yannic Parker (25) and old-timer Steve Cook (18 not out).

Haverfordwest somehow conspired to bowl 13 wides but Archie Thomas (2 for 56), Clive Tucker (2 for 57) and Simon Holliday (2 for 48) shared six wickets as The Seasiders settled on 218 for 7.

With a strong batting line-up the challenge was well within the homesters’ compass but only Simon Holliday (40), Danny Potter (23) and Mikey Jones (24) could muster double figures.

For The Seasiders there was really good bowling from Danny Caine (4 for 38), Nick Cope (3 for 27) and Sam Franklin (2 for 20), assisted by some excellent fielding so that they considerably distanced themselves from the bottom two in the table!

Burton tail-enders hold on for a draw

Burton (160 for 9) drew with Whitland (216 for 7)

Umpires: Dave Brandon & Alan Hansen
Scorers: Dennis Venables & Ann-Marie Jenkins

Burton tail-enders James Davies and Johnny Scale held on for a draw at Oatfield Park against Whitland but with the points system at present this result was as good as a win for the battling visitors and a vital result which distances them from the opposition in the table’s bottom three.

Whitland made an excellent start as openers Ed John and Jack Bowen put on 73 before the latter departed with 49 (ten fours to his name) – and then John was joined by Jonathan Thomas (37, including five fours and a six) in another productive partnership of 87.

John showed how much he had been missed in Whitland’s first-team cricket before he finally departed with ten fours and a six in his innings of 69.

At one stage the visitors stood at 168 for 1 but only Dan Newton (12) managed double figures thereafter as Luke Hayman (2 for 41), Morgan Scale (1 for 37) and Johnny Scale (1 for 33) lowered the pace of the Whitland innings. Matthew Webb supported with 1 for 41 whilst James Davies was the other wicket-taker with 1 for 40) to leave Whitland with a decent score – but one which seemed likely to have been even higher at one stage!

Burton had decent knocks from Morgan Scale (34) and Jonathan Venables (38) in response but no-one else could muster the necessary big score and Luke Hayman (26), Joe John (11) and James Davies (10 not out) were the only others in double figures against Greg Sleep (2 for 38), Jack Bowen (2 for 17), Jonathan Thomas (2 for 13), Matthew Davies (1 for 32) and Gethin Scourfield (1 for 52).

Cockburn and Devonald star in big Tish win

Cresselly (231 all out) lost to St Ishmaels (234 for 4) by 6 wickets

Umpires: Dave Bonner & Richard Scriven
Scorers: Teagan Cartwright & Wendy Bradshaw

Phil Cockburn and Brennan Devonald were the toast of their St Ishmaels colleagues as the pair produced match-winning performances at Cresselly, ably assisted by Andrew Pawlett.

Devonald has had a cracking season and again enhanced his reputation as an all-rounder with five wickets alongside Pawlett and then hitting an unbeaten 48 in only 31 balls to help skipper Phil Cockburn (81) ease their team home as they used one of the two overs gifted them by the home side.

Cresselly suffered the rare indignity of losing all their wickets with 15 balls still remaining but they still mustered a challenging final tally of 231 runs as Iwan Izzard topped their batting charts with 59, including six fours and three sixes.

Neal Williams continued his recent run of good form with six boundaries in his 53 and Simon Cole fell lbw to Pawlett when he was a run short of what would have been a deserved half century.

Dan Cherry (28) was the only other Cresselly batsman to make a mark as Tish’s bowlers Andrew Pawlett and Brennan Devonald shared all ten wickets. Pawlett’s canny slow stuff earned him 5 for 61 in 11 overs and Devonald was equally impressive with 5 for 34 in 10.3 overs.

Cockburn’s 86 included 10 fours and a six before he was bowled by Tom Murphy, who claimed 2 for 30 despite having to leave the field injured.

Tom Arthur (1 for 52) and Ryan Lewis (1 for 48) were the other home wicket-takers but Cockburn, Devonald (five fours and two sixes), Dan Richards (43, including six fours and a six), plus Harry Nicholas (35) saw Tish home triumphant!

Lawrenny stay in second spot as Llangwm remain bottom

Lawrenny (159 for 3) beat Llangwm (157 all out) by 7 wickets

Umpires: Trefor Evans & Steve Blowes
Scorers: Malcolm Thomas & Cerys Griffiths

Kurtis Marsh struck an unbeaten 81 for LawrennyLawrenny comfortably accounted for Llangwm to stay in second spot in the section behind runaway leaders Neyland – and the same time ensured that opponents Llangwm remain firmly rooted at the foot of the table.

As so often seems to happen, Llangwm scored at a good pace in terms of runs scored per over but committed the cardinal sin of getting shot out with 11 of their 45 overs unused.

Luke Brock belted an entertaining 54 not out (seven fours and two sixes) but only namesake Richard ever stayed long with 40 (nine boundaries).

For Lawrenny, Rob Williams celebrated the birth of his new daughter with 3 for 41 alongside Jamie Lewis (2 for 25), Ryan Morton (3 for 36), Kurtis Marsh (1 for 40) and Brad McDermott-Jenkins (1 for 14).

Llangwm needed a few early wickets after tea but could only shift Harry Thomas for 12 as Steve Lewis joined Kurtis Marsh in steering the homesters to another success.

Lewis rapped seven fours in a classy 52 for the veteran batsman whilst Marsh maintain his form to the final delivery with an unbeaten 81 (including 11 boundaries), despite the efforts of Matthew Kiff (2 for 31) and Daniel Morgan (1 for 19).

Easy win for title contenders

Narberth (144 for 3) beat Cresselly 2nds (143 all out) by 7 wickets

Scorers: Gwyneth Johns & Des Brace

Davy Johns 5 for 26 for NarberthIt was a case of two brothers working in tandem for Narberth as Matthew and Davy Johns took all 10 Cresselly wickets between them – before Richie Adams led the successful chase.

Davy took 5-26 in 12 overs and Matthew 5-32 in 9.1 – and yet it had all looked so different as Cresselly openers Scott Arthur and Mike Venables put on 80 for the opening wicket.

Arthur hit seven boundaries in his 44 while Venables went on to score 61, including seven fours and a six - but aside from that Stefan Jenkins was the top scorer with 13 as The Doves middle and lower order collapsed.

The visitors did then strike early when Hadd Luff (6) fell to Richard Harries (1-29), but Adams and Mick Haltham then put on 102, ended when the latter went to Ollie Richards (1-38) having made 36 (six fours and a six).

Adams reached 60 (11 fours) before Charlie Arthur (1-38) struck, but Lewy Davies (25 not out) and Jordan Howell (17 not out) eased Narberth home with room to spare.

Hay brothers set up Pembroke’s easy victory

Carew 2nds (85 all out) lost to Pembroke (88 for 1) by 9 wickets

Andrew Hay 5 for 32 for PembrokeIt was a ‘Hay’ day for Pembroke at Carew as brothers Andrew and Phil starred in a 9 wicket win.
Andrew was instrumental in shooting the home side out for just 85 in 37 overs, taking 5-32 in his 10 over spell.

Sam Davies was also watertight in his 3-27 from seven overs, and there were also two run outs as The Rooks struggled to get going after opener Eugene McCarney had fallen for 30 (three fours). There was also 13 for Barry Evans and 15 for Dai Rees.

The home side then had hope though when Rhys Grigg bowled Pembroke skipper Jack Harries (1) – but then came an unbeaten stand of 81 between the Hay boys.

Andrew made 43 not out with four fours and a six, and Phil was unbeaten on 39 (six fours) as the away side won it in under 24 overs.

Hook lose ground on top two

Hook (93 all out) lost to Pembroke Dock (94 for 5) by 5 wickets

Umpire: Tony Walsh
Scorers: Jonathan Willington & Nicola Murray

Pembroke Dock’s survival hopes were given a huge boost at Hook as good bowling displays from Nick Daley and Scott Griffiths gave them the edge in a tense affair.

The home side were bowled out for 93, finding themselves 24-6 as Daley ripped through the top order with 4-13 while there was also 2-12 at the other end from Billy Wood.

Then Matthew Holder rescued matters somewhat with 37 not out, including five boundaries, but wickets continued to fall around him and despite a big six from No 10 Will Goronwy (14), Griffiths helped clean up the tail with 3-41 and Jamie White took 1-21.

But the Dock were soon in trouble themselves as opener Daley was skittled second ball by Aled Phelps, who also removed Wood (6) and Hillier-Wood (9) on route to figures of 3-22 - while Holder (1-19) got rid of Luke Murray (4) to leave matters at 25-4.

Griffiths and Peter Kingdom steadied the chase though, putting on 54 and by the time Kingdom (20) fell lbw to Seth Willington (1-23) the Dock were almost there.

Griffiths stayed firm on 27 not out (three fours), and Jamie White (8 not out) joined him in getting the away side over the line.

Llechryd power forward in title chase

Kilgetty (81 all out) lost to Llechryd (82 for 1) by 9 wickets

Scorer: Rose Jenkins (Kilgetty)

Graham Keen took 4 for 14 for LlechrydLlechryd moved another step closer to a long awaited return to the top flight as they made light work or Kilgetty.

They shot the home side out for 81 as only Kyle (26) and Geoff Marsh (24) got any kind of scores, with Graham Keen (4-14), Peter Betterley (3-31) and John Curran (2-19) combining to set up a seemingly comfortable chase.

And so it proved as although Alex Thomas (1-31) removed Cefin Evans for 17, Michael Carter (27 not out) and Curran (25 not out) ensured 30 points for the visitors.

Johnston just denied first win of the season

Johnston (211 all out) drew with Haverfordwest 2nds (185 for 9)

Scorers: Gracie Morris & Emma Summons (both Johnston)
Umpires: Steve James & Paul Morris (both Johnston)

Johnston’s upturn in form continued at Glebelands as they notched a second successive winning draw by getting the better of Haverfordwest 2nds.

The home side were all out for 211 despite having opener Geno Cleal clean bowled by Nigel Morgan before a run was on the board.

Chris Goodridge gave them a platform though with six fours in his 33 and Liam James made 23 (three fours and a six).

There was more hard hitting from Josh Hicks as he cracked four fours and three sixes before holing out off Matthew Vaughan for 49, but Liam Boswell (14), Nick Davies (26) and Lewis Boswell (40) all helped push the total past the 200 mark.

For The Town, William Phillips had an eventful 12 over spell of 4-59, while Teo Krol took 2-50, Morgan 1-13, James Marchant 1-54, and Vaughan 1-34.

Haverfordwest were then given hope of chasing down their target by their top order. Dai Haynes made 17 (four fours) but it was opening partner Doug Johnson who really got things going with seven fours and a six in his 55 - before being run out.

James Marchant made 26 (five fours) and Dan Field 24, but Johnston were striking regularly as Keegan Codd (2-37), Keegan Codd (1-30), Curtis Hicks (1-42) his dad Mark (2-51) and two more run outs left matters at 183-9.

But Jamie Jenkins (22 not out) and Krul (1 not out) stayed strong at the death to deny the hosts maximum points.
