Cricket - Divisions 3, 4 and 5 round ups

Gary James was 48 not out for JohnstonDivision Three by Fraser Watson

There was a cracking contest at Bosherston and Stackpole as Johnston chased down their target of 154 thanks to a knock of 48 not out from Gary James.

The home side opted to bat and posted 153 all out, with opener Josh Davies (41) and Lewys Gibby (38) leading the scoring while James (3-43) and Curt Hicks (3-28) shared six wickets.

The opening pair of Chris Goodridge (21) and Leigh Walters (21) ensured the visitors got off to a good start in the reply but then came an inspired spell of bowling from Stackpole skipper Simon Bevan as he took 4-21.

But James stood firm and was joined at the end by Mark Hicks, who made 19 not out, to get the Tigers over the line at 155 for 6.

In Llanrhian, the hosts ran out winners by eight wickets against Laugharne - who made the long journey minus a few key players.

Jon Strawbridge scored runs and took wickets for LlanrhianThe visitors won the toss and batted and skipper Andrew Edwards led the way with 41, including a big six, but he played very much a lone hand as Jonathan Strawbridge (3-20), Jack Jones (2-22), Karl Davies (2-5), Nigel Delaney (2-1) and Dafydd Williams (1-20) reduced the visitors to 91 all out.

The Cows then reached 92 for 2 as Strawbridge (29), Jack Jones (30 not out) and namesake Ben (15 not out) got the job done, with Carl Smith taking 2-29 from his eight overs.

At the Lower Racecourse, Llangwm’s ‘Ackie’ Harries and Toby Asson both had field days. Harries cracked 80 in his side’s total of 214 for 4 against Haverfordwest 3rds before Asson took 7-13 to seal a huge win.

There was also 50 not out from Daniel Morgan as Richard Davies (2-53) and Matthew Vaughan (1-3) tried in vain to turn the tide.

The Town then fell to 52 all out as Richard Scriven top scored with 13.

At The Athletic Club, Steve Williams hit 60 not out to seal an eight wicket win for St Ishmaels 2nds over Neyland 2nds.

The hosts were all out for 133, with Geraint Rees (31), George Evans (18) and Stephen Murray (176) all chipping in while Stuart Carpenter (2-23), Thomas Williams (2-19), Robbie Thomas (2-26) and Kevin Bowen (2-31) all bowled well for Tish.

Williams was then backed up by Carpenter (46 not out) and despite wickets for Jamie Smith (1-14) and home skipper Paul Miller (1-40), Tish got home comfortably.

The game between Narberth 2nds and Cresselly 2nds was called off.

Division Four by Fraser Watson

Burton 2nds (105 for 4) beat Llanrhian 2nds (102 all out)

Toby Hayman cracked 41 for BurtonThe only game to take place in the fourth tier was at Oatfield Park, where Aled Thomas and Toby Hayman starred as Burton 2nds beat Llanrhian 2nds.

Put into bat, The Cows were all out for 102 despite a quick-fire 41 from opener Ben Jones, who blasted seven fours and a six before nicking a Thomas delivery which keeper Will Ridge safely snaffled.

Jones’ opening partner Russel Watkins had earlier made 12 but was also caught behind off Matthew Davies, and after that the scorecard didn’t make good reading as only Gary Reynolds (10) made double figures.

Reynolds was the third batsman to be out edging behind to the keeper, this time off Tim Webb (1-20), and Ridge then completed a stellar display behind the stumps with a fourth catch to dismiss Billy Clarke and help Matthew John take 2-2 in just two overs.

Thomas meanwhile, finished with 4-17 from eight overs and there also wickets for Matthew Davies (2-26) and Ioan Roberts (1-9).

The home side hit early trouble in their reply as Reynolds (1-32) removed Richard Caws (9) and John Evans (5) fell to Llion Williams (1-11).

But No 3 Hayman was then joined by James Davies in steadying matters, the latter hitting 25 (two fours) before being caught in the deep of Clarke’s (1-16) spin bowling.

Hayman reached 41 (five fours) before eventually being well caught by James Morris off Tony Kitchell (1-19), but then Webb (2 not out) and Dan Ridge, who finished matters by cracking two successive sixes off Clarke in his 18 not out, finished matters.

The scheduled games between Llechryd 2nds and Carew 3rds, Kilgetty 2nds and Hook 2nds, Crymych and Lawrenny 2nds, and Saundersfoot 2nds and Whitland 2nds, were all called off before a ball was bowled.

Division Five by Bill Carne

Pembroke 2nds are top of division five after beating Stackpole at Treleet, limiting the visitors to 75 for 6 and then reaching their target for the loss of four wickets.

Wayne Marshall (23 not out), John Harries 14 and Roger Lewis (12) topped the batting chart for Stackpole as George Davies (3 for 13) and Charlie Perkins (1 for 14) took wickets took wickets for Pembroke.

Marshall completed a good all-round performance with 4 for 21 but Tom Kaijaks hit 37 not out to take Pembroke comfortably home.

Jason Phillips scored a cracking century for Haverfordwest 4thsThere was a real run fest at Imble Lane where Pembroke Dock 2nds smashed their way to 253 for 5 and Haverfordwest 4ths replied with 188 for 3 to give the homesters victory by 65 runs.

Leading the way for The Dock were Luke Murray (66), Anton John (72), Adam Phillips (50no) and Peter Kingdom (28) as John Ryan (2 for 49) and Gareth Fair (2 for 34) were the pick of The Town’s bowlers.

Then Jason Phillips scored a cracking 106 not out for the visitors alongside Danny Dewstowe (37) but they ran out of overs as Niall Brunton (2 for 64) and Chris Owen (1 for 24) picked up wickets for The Dock.

Fishguard and Goodwick were able to celebrate their first success of the season as they bowled out Whitland 3rds for 81 and then squeezed home in an entertaining tussle on 82 for 8.

Keith Hogburn, Charlie Bujeka and Sion Benjamin managed double figures for Whitland against Jake Booth (3 for 15), Alistair Davies (3 for 10) and Jac Pepper (2 for 24) – and Booth (18), James Wade (16) and Davies (19) hit the bulk of the runs as the home side celebrated in style!

Sadly, the matches between Hundleton and Llechryd 3rds, plus Cresselly 3rds against Neyland 3rds, failed to start because of bad weather!
