Hall and Brace see Carew home

Carew (180 for 4) beat Burton (178 all out) by 6 wickets

Umpires: Trefor Evans & Richard Scriven

Scorers: Julie Davies & Dennis Venables

Good batting by captain Brian Hall and Ceri Brace in an unbroken stand of 66 runs saw Carew to victory over Burton, despite the absence of several key players.

Put in to bat first, Burton’s main early contributors to their decent tally of 178 all out in 44.4 overs were Toby Hayman (19), Jonathan Venables (35, including six fours) and Morgan Scale, who also had six boundaries in his 49 before he was caught by Dai Rees off the bowling of Shaun Whitfield. James Davies (19) and his namesake Matthew (22) also made useful contributions.

Tom Davies was again the pick of the Carew bowlers with 4 for 25, alongside Whitfield (2 for 36), Sion Jenkins (1 for 25), Ceri Brace (1 for 25) and Simon Wood (1 for 26).

Carew’s reply included good knocks from Tom Davies (40) and Simon Wood (35) alongside cameos by Nick Davies (15) and Shaun Whitfield against Matthew Webb (2 for 39), Morgan Scale (1 for 48) and Luke Hayman (1 for 28).

Burton might have felt they were still in with a chance at 114 for 4 but then Hall and Brace combined, running well between the wickets and punishing any loose deliveries, the skipper ending up on 24 not out as Brace scored 42 not out as The Rooks won in 41.5 overs.

Town win run-glut battle at Pill Parks

Llangwm (210 for 6) lost to Haverfordwest (211 for 5) by 5 wickets

Umpires: Richard Merriman & Jonathan Willington

Scorers: Dominic Asson & Jayne Cole

Dai Davies (Haverfordwest)There were runs galore at Llangwm as they took on Haverfordwest with the carnival backdrop providing a nice atmosphere before The Town successfully chased down the home side’s 210 for 5 with five wickets in hand as Dai Davies showed what an asset he can by playing for them.

Llangwm made a solid start via Will Beresford and Joseph Kiff, who reached 30 out of the first 50 before he was well caught low down by stand-in Town keeper George Thomas off the bowling of Archie Thomas (1 for 46).

Beresford 42 (seven fours) and Gary Phillips (40) advanced the score into three figures but then Simon Holliday (3 for 58) and Clive Tucker (2 for 28) brought about a typical collapse by Llangwm to 138 for 6.

But then skipper Ollie Davies and namesake Noah batted really sensibly to create an unbroken stand of 72 which advanced the final score to a healthy 210 for 6, with Ollie having three fours and two sixes in his 41 not out and Noah supporting with 32 not out (four boundaries).

Ben Field (21) and Simon Holliday (six fours and four sixes in his 68 before he was adjudged lbw to talented teenager Joe Phillips as part of an excellent 2-15 spell) took The Town well into three figures and when they departed Dai Davies stroked nine fours and two sixes in his match-winning 95 not out despite the bowling of Phillips, Ollie Davies (2 for 74) and Matthew Kiff (1 for 37).

Lawrenny win with ease

Saundersfoot (118 all out) lost to Lawrenny (121 for 4) by 6 wickets

Umpires: Dave Bonner & Allan Hansen

Scorers: Adge John & Malcolm Thomas

Jamie Lewis (Lawrenny)After their titanic Harrison-Allen Bowl clash in midweek this return league fixture at Saundersfoot had a real air of ant-climax about it as the home side could only muster 118 all out and Lawrenny passed if for the loss of four wickets in only 19 overs.

Jamie Lewis was the undoubted spearhead of the Lawrenny attack with splendid figures of 5 for 36, ably assisted by Rob Williams (1 for 23), Ryan Morton (2 for 37) and Brad McDermott-Jenkins (2 for 15) as only John Mansbridge (nine boundaries in his 53) and Simon Stanford (33, including seven fours) ever stayed long.

Brad McDermott-Jenkins swatted two fours and two big sixes in his 21 in a productive opening stand of 48 with Harry Thomas, who remained unbeaten at the finish with an excellent 53 (10 fours) and was joined by Steve Lewis, whose 39 included nine boundaries and only three singles.

It meant Lawrenny remain in second spot in the table, whilst Saundersfoot remain firmly in the bottom half of the table with only three wins from 12 starts.

Neyland still in dominant mode

St Ishmaels (155 for 9) lost to Neyland (156 for 1) by 9 wickets

Umpires: Simon Richards & Mervyn John

Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & John Laugharne

Nick Koomen (Neyland)Neyland continued their impressive form at the top of the table with an east win at St Ishmaels where they chased down the home side’s tally for the loss of only one wicket and with 69 balls still in hand.

Tish batted first and again it was the in-form Phil Cockburn who led the way to 155 for 9 with ten classy boundaries, with Harry Nicholas (19) the only other home batsman to really trouble the scorers.

Slow bowlers Andrew Miller and Gary Lloyd bamboozled the Tish batsman with respective hauls of 3 for 34 and 3 for 22, assisted by Tom Pritchard (1 for 12), Ross Hardy (1 for 37), Geraint Rees (1 for 26) and Nick Koomen (1 for 3) as they were supported by terrific ground fielding and catching.

Then Patrick Bellerby (four boundaries in his 25 before he was bowled by Brennan Devonald) was joined by Nick Koomen in getting the Neyland innings off to a flier, with Ashley Sutton joining the fray when Bellerby departed and striking seven fours and a six in his 56 not out in a three-figure partnership with Koomen, who was still there at the end with an unbeaten 68 that included nine fours and a maximum.

Cresselly easily chase down Whitland score

Whitland (184 all out) lost to Cresselly (185 for 3) by 7 wickets

Umpires: Steve Blowes & Dave Brandon

Scorers: Ann-Marie Jenkins &Teagan Cartwright

Alex Bailey - unbeaten 52 in Cresselly win Cresselly won easily at Whitland as they limited the home side to 184 all out in 43.1 overs, a target that they found comfortable on a good batting track.

Matthew Davies batted well in the losing Harrison-Allen Bowl semi-final in midweek and was again the leading Whitland run-maker in this tussle against Cresselly with seven fours in his 53, as Geraint Jones (41, including seven fours and two sixes) and Adam Davies (five boundaries in his 40.

But no-one else managed to stay long against Tom Murphy (3 for 54), Ryan Lewis (2 for 30) and Tom Arthur (2 for 34); the Whitland cause not helped by the fact that they gifted Cresselly three run outs as reward for some excellent ground fielding and throwing.

Cresselly had solid knocks from Dan Sutton (40), Neal Williams 37 and Simon Cole (41) and then Alex Bailey showed his ability to hit big as he finished things off with six fours and a six in undefeated 52, taking his side home with seven wickets and 11 overs still in hand.

Second Division:

Llechryd maintain winning ways

Llechryd (192 for 9) beat Carew 2nds (127 all out) by 65 runs

John Curran -  4 wickets for Llechryd all-rounderLlechryd moved top of the table, temporarily at least, as they were too strong for Narberth 2nds.

Batting first, the home side made 192-9, with opener James Betterley leading the way with 50, and he was backed up by the rest of the top four as Michael Carter (38), John Curran (23) and Jonny Lewis (34) also batted well.

For Carew, Iori Hicks led the bowling with 4-47, while Barry Evans (2-38), Rhys Grigg (1-32) and Kerry Waters (1-22) also had wickets.

The visitors then fell to 127 all out, as only opener Evans (23) and Hicks (26) threatened to get going, although Alex Wilkes (13) and Grigg (19) also did their best to hold up the home side.

But Peter Betterley (3-32) and Curran (4-24) were both instrumental as Llechryd took the 10 wickets they needed.

577 runs scored at Imble Lane!

Josh Hicks - Magnificent 157 for Johnston Pembroke Dock (277 for 8) drew with Johnston (300 for 9)

Josh Hicks and Scott Griffiths both had a day to remember as Johnston got their best result of the season in an absolute run fest at Imble Lane.

Nearly 600 runs were scored with Hicks hitting 157 to lead Johnston to 300-9, before Griffiths helped The Dock respond with 126 not out as they again secured a draw.

Johnston had been 25-2 when Hicks came in, but with 16 fours and four sixes he turned the tide emphatically before eventually being bowled by Niall Brunton, having found support from the in-form Liam James, who hit nine fours in his 48.

There was also 27 from No 9 Keegan Codd (five fours) as Johnston posted their highest league total for a number of years – Nick Daley (2-23), Brunton (1-29), Jamie White (2-88), Griffiths (1-52), and Jake Griffiths (1-54) the wicket takers.

The visitors then had high hopes of outright victory as the home side fell to 44-3, but then Griffiths was joined by Archie Wood in rebuilding matters.

Scott Griffiths - 126 for Pembroke DockWood hit seven fours in his 38 and there were also important contributions from skipper Craig Butland (30) and Jamie White (15) – but it was Griffiths who ensured Johnson fell two wickets short of victory with 15 fours as he remained unbeaten when stumps were picked up well past 8pm!

It was still a very positive result for Johnston, for whom Liam James (3-56), Curtis Hicks (2-65), Nicky Davies (2-52), and Keegan Codd (1-57) had wickets.

Toby takes Kilgetty to victory in another run fest!

Cresselly (238 for 4) lost to Kilgetty (244 for 3) by 7 wickets

Richard Harris - 104 in defeat for Cresselly 2ndsA splendid knock of 91 not out from Toby Poole helped Kilgetty complete a brilliant run chase after a century from Richard Harries had seemingly put Cresselly 2nds in command.

After skipper Matthew Lewis had opted to bat, The Doves piled on 238-5, with Rhydian Rees and Harries sharing an opening stand of 190.

Both were then run out, Rees having made 87 (12 fours) and Harries 104, with 13 boundaries.

Lewis (15 not out) hit three fours to help bolster the total late on as Toby Poole (1-53) and Richard Cope (1-23) took a wicket each for Kilgetty.

The visitors then lost Tom Lewis (11) early on in their chase, bowled by Morgan Lewis (1-29), but then their own Matthew Lewis (40 – seven fours and a six) and Christian Phillips (41 – a six and six fours) got them going, with Harries (2-33) removing both batsmen to leave matters 112-3.

It was then that Poole took over, as he and Cope shared an unbroken partnership of 131.

68 of Poole’s 91 runs came in boundaries as he hit 11 fours and four sixes, while Cope was 32 not out, finishing matters in style with a third maximum to seal matters – still with seven overs to spare.

Umpire: Arthur Brady and Tony Walsh

Scorer: Natalie Thomas (Haverfordwest)

Jacob Lay - 59 not out in Hook win on The RacecourseJacob Lay made 59 not out to ensure Hook took full advantage of a good bowling display at Haverfordwest as the home side were shot out for 109, with No 4 Dan Field holding things together with 42 not out.

Opener James Marchant had earlier made 21 and No 11 Matthew Vaughan helped get the score past three figures with 17, but Hook stayed on top via Brennan Martin (3-12), Callum James (1-27), Matthew Holder (2-18) and Aled Phelps (3-21).

Lay then hit eight fours and a six to lead his side home, and despite Marchant taking 3-51 as he removed Aled Phelps (13), Craig Nutty (3) and Jake Wicks (9) – Bradley Flood made 13 not out to help Lay finish the job.
