Impressive Carew widen the gap at the top

Carew (145 for 4) beat Neyland (144 for 9) by 6 wickets

Umpires: Arthur Brady & Dave Morris
Scorers: Julie Davies & John Laugharne

Carew opened up a 33 point lead at the top of Pembrokeshire Cricket with a comfortable six-wicket success against fellow contenders Neyland as they bowled and batted better than their old rivals.

Put in to bat first, Neyland had six players who made cameos but were unable to build towards a big score as Tom Davies (1 for 36), Ceri Brace (2 for 22), Rhys Davies (3 for 41) and Shaun Whitfield (2 for 19) bowled decent spells for Carew.

Nick Koomen (15), Patrick Bellerby (29), Ashley Sutton (28), Paul Murray (14), Nathan Banner (10) and Henry Durrant (10) all got started but in the final analysis their team had to settle on 144 for 9 from their allotted 45 overs.

Tom Scourfield (17) and Rhys Davies gave Carew a steady start before the latter completed a good personal performance in a stand of 94 with Tim Hicks (five fours and a six in his 44), striking eight boundaries en route to his 50 before he was run out shortly afterwards.

Nathan Banner (1 for 16), Henry Durrant (1 for 22) and Andrew Miller (1 for 26) were the Neyland wicket-takers but Carew reached their target in 37.4 overs with this this impressive display.

Spreadbury steers Whitland to excellent victory

Cresselly (180 all out) beat Whitland (258 for 5) by 78 runs

Umpires: Dave Brandon & Dave Bonner
Scorers: Teagan Cartwright & Ann-Marie Jenkins

Whitland moved in to fourth place with a deserved win at Cresselly where they batted well to establish a challenging total and then applied pressure at key times to limit the homesters’ powerful batting line-up to go home victors by 78 runs.

Will Spreadbury provided the platform for Whitland’s sizeable scoreline as he top-scored with 85 (four fours and six sixes), ably assisted by Paul Davies (48), Wayne Howells (58, including six fours and a six) and Jonathan Thomas, with a late 37 not out.

For Cresselly, Dan James claimed 1 for 45 against his former club whilst Tom Arthur (1 for 42), Simon Cole (2 for 51), and Ryan Lewis (1 for 74) were the other wicket takers.

Adam Chandler posted a useful 52 for Cresselly but a number of their other big guns failed to fire as well as usual as Simon Cole (24), Scott Arthur (21), Iwan Izzard (17), Dan James (15) and Tom Arthur (16 not out) were the pick of their batting line-up in support.

Matthew Davies (4 for 29) and Wayne Howells (laying claim for man of the match with 3 for 44) looked good with the ball for Whitland as Scott Newton (1 for 31) and Ben Harvey (1 for 48) were their other successful bowlers.

Depleted Kilgetty pay the price

Haverfordwest (45 for 3) beat Kilgetty (41 all out) by 7 wickets

Umpires: Steve Blowes & Trefor Evans
Scorers: Jayne Cole & Hazel Poole

Kilgetty suffered a heavy defeat on The Racecourse as they elected to bat first, were shot out for only 47 runs and endured the fastest finish of the day as Haverfordwest eased home by seven wickets as they were also without several key players.

The visitors were only able to field ten men and suffered another blow when talented opening bat Kurtis Marsh had to retire very early because of a bruised hand, although he bravely managed to bowl despite the painful injury.

Haverfordwest had the youngest opening pace attack in supporters’ memory as 15 year old Johnny White (3 for 20) and 17 year old Archie Thomas (2 for 10) reduced the opposition to 15 for 5 and then another teenager in Kieran O’Connor bowled his off-spin to claim 1 for 10 alongside veteran all-rounder Simon Holliday (2 for 1) as only Ian Poole managed double figures for Kilgetty with 15 not out as they were shot out for 41 in 17.1 overs.

Then Holliday showed what an asset he is to Haverfordwest with an undefeated 30 as they lost three wickets – and there was still a very early tea after the game ended in double quick time!

Lawrenny win thriller off final ball

Lawrenny (234 for 7) beat Johnston (233 for 7) by 3 wickets

Umpires: John Williams & Glyn Pawlett
Scorers: Chris Williams & Delyth Summons

Veteran Lawrenny all-rounder Ian Jenkins used his experience to the full as he faced the final ball of this match needing a single to help his side claim victory over Johnston and did just that to round off an enthralling and high-scoring tussle.

Johnston’s ace run-maker Dan Sutton continued his remarkable run of league innings as he followed two centuries and a score of 80 with another three-figure score before he was out for 102 (ten fours and five sixes), caught by Brad McDermott-Jenkins off the bowling of Jamie Lewis, who ended with figures of 3 for 51.

Johnston had lost John Summons early on but then Lee Summons showed his father how to do it in a stand of 194 with Sutton, belting seven fours and five sixes in his 89 before he was denied what looked a likely century when he was caught by Ryan Martin as part of Ian Jenkins’ canny 4 for 24 analysis.

Harry Thomas (50) and skipper Brad McDermott-Jenkins (57) launched the Lawrenny counter-offensive alongside Rob Williams (23) before Phil Cole enhanced his growing reputation with the bat as he scored an undefeated 57 to take his side within sight of success – and left it to old-timer Jenkins to score the decisive single!

Tish unable to break down Pembroke’s plucky resistance

St Ishmaels (235 for 5 Dec in 42 overs) drew with Pembroke (188 for 7)

Umpires: Les Hastings & Allan Hansen
Scorers: Wendy Bradshaw & Helen Pawlett (both St Ishmaels)

Andrew Hay scored a classy half century for PembrokeThere were runs aplenty at St Ishmaels as the home side rattled up a big score and then declared with three overs in hand but Tish were unable to completely break down the visitors’ resistance as they scored 188 for 7 in 48 overs.

Peter Bradshaw and Dan Howells got Tish off to a good start with a stand of 89, with Bradshaw stroking five boundaries and Howells striking seven fours in his 46 as Andrew Williams also chipped in with 36.

Then Phil Cockburn (five fours in an excellent 53) and Danny Flynn (16 not out) steered their side to a good score before skipper Bradshaw declared with three overs still left as Sam Davies (1 for 46) and veteran all-rounder Barry Evans (perhaps a long career-best 4 for 46) were the Pembroke wicket-takers before Tish declared on 235 for 5.

Jack Harries led the Pembroke batting with seven fours and a six in his 52 alongside Billy Wood (36) and Sam Davies (25) before Andrew ‘Sparky’ Hay took them to safety with a classy 54 not out (eight boundaries), despite the efforts of Andrew Palmer (2 for 37), Danny Flynn (3 for 59), Andrew Pawlett (1 for 29) and Andrew Williams (1 for 5).
