Pembroke County Cricket Club (112 all out) lost to South Wales Cricket League (114 for 4) by 6 wickets

Venue: Tir Dref, Llandyssul Cricket Club
Scorer: John Laugharne (Neyland)

Pembroke County Cricket Club made the journey to Llandyssul looking to repeat their victory of the previous season over the South Wales Cricket League but found a much-strengthened opposition who bowled and fielded well in limiting the county to a disappointing score and then batted well to reach their target with 14 overs to spare.

Bad start for County as Sutton goes early in unusual circumstances!

After being put in to bat the game started badly for Pembrokeshire as in-form opener Dan Sutton, with over 300 runs in his last three games for Johnston and only once out, fell for a duck from the third ball of the match as he slapped a ball from Mike Davies straight to the cover fielder.

Unfortunately it fell into the safe hands of his own skipper, Sean Hannon, who had sportingly agreed to act as a sub until a home player arrived late!

Solid second-wicket stand until Ali intervenes

Simon Holliday (Haverfordwest) and Ashley Sutton (Neyland) steadied the ship with a second-wicket partnership of almost 60, with Sutton departing for 24 as he gave a catch to the South Wales League skipper and wicketkeeper Gregg Fisher.

Holliday batted really well but fell one run short of a deserved half century when he was caught at mid-off by James Summons, but from then on only No 8 batsman Iestyn Scourfield managed double figures alongside ‘Mr Extras’ (12).

Particularly difficult to read was Yacoob Ali, who shifted Holliday and spun the ball both ways and so mesmerised claimed the lower order that he ended up with 4 for 9 from only 4.2 overs.

South Wales League’s steady batting takes them home

The South Wales League had a steady start via Brett Harries (31) and John Absalom (14), followed by James Summons (20), with Absalom bowled by Iestyn Scourfield in a 1 for 21 spell and Holliday ending up as Pembrokeshire’s man of the match with a creditable 3 for 19 in five overs.

But skipper Fisher (22 not out) and Ali (17 not out) steered the hosts home with six wickets in hand to gain revenge from the previous match at this venue last year.
