50 Caps for Wales over 50s recognised in fine fashion for Paul

50th Cap for delighted Paul Webb playing for Wales Over 50s

Paul Webb celebrated winning his 50th cap with the Welsh Over 50s in the best possible way as he led Wales to a victory over their counterparts from Dorset in an entertaining match at Croesyceiliog.

Paul, who is in his second year as the chairman of the Pembroke County Cricket Club, has been involved with the Welsh set up set since 2013 and as well as continuing his role as skipper for the campaign, received some very nice surprises.

Lovely cake – and a special cap

His wife Janice, who does a great job as the Welsh Over 50s scorer, had commissioned a special celebration cake which was made by his son Matthew, currently playing so well for Cresselly, and presented to Paul by his vice-captain Nigel Clayton (Bridgend Town).

Nigel also presented Paul with a special Welsh cap to mark his half century of caps and Wales made it a great day all-round as they amassed 250 for 7 from their allotted 45 overs and Dorset managed 228 all out in response to give Wales victory by 22 runs.

Paul Webb receives a cakeOther Pembrokeshire performances

Leading the way in the batting stakes were Neil Williams (Pwllheli) with 69 whilst Cresselly’s Neal Williams added a hard-hitting 31 alongside 54 from Andrew Phelps (Cimla and Port Talbot) – and the other Pembrokeshire representative in Ian Poole (9 not out) shared an unbroken stand of 17 with Paul Webb (15 not out) at the end of the innings.

Paul then bowled his slow stuff effectively as Dorset fought hard, finishing with 3 for 36 from his nine-over stint and shared a run out success with ‘Poolie’ as the Kilgetty keeper was in prime form.

It completed a memorable day for ‘Webbie’ that will be recalled alongside his top score of 98 not out and best bowling figures of 3 for 15 in his Welsh jumper, both coincidentally claimed in other matches against Dorset!
