Neyland easily win top of table clash

Haverfordwest (93 all out) lost to Neyland (179 for 7) by 86 runs

Umpires: Jonathan Willington & Dave Bonner

Scorers: Jayne Cole & John Laugharne

Neyland increased their lead at the top of the table to a massive 41 points after this comfortable win on The Racecourse, whilst Haverfordwest’s defeat saw them plummet to fifth spot in the table.

Put in to bat, Neyland had Nick Koomen as the anchor man in their innings as he scored a classy 82 before he was adjudged lbw to Clive Tucker having stroked nine boundaries – with supporting scores from Ashley Sutton (20), and George Evans (19) before vital late impetus was provided by Nathan Sutton, who reached 35 not out in only 18 balls, including three very big sixes.

Simon Holliday (2 for 43) and Archie Thomas 3 for 38) were the principal bowlers for The Town but although opener Mikey Jones scored 15 they were soon in deep trouble at 51 for 5 against the pace of Banner (2 for 19) and Tom Pritchard (3 for 28).

Only Jake Merry (29) ever stayed long for Haverfordwest after that as Andrew Miller (2 for 24) and Henry Durrant (1 for 20) also helped the visitors to a big win at the top of the table!

Lawrenny bounce back to winning ways

Lawrenny (166 all out) beat St Ishmaels (115 all out) by 51 runs

Umpires: Trefor Evans & Allan Hansen

Scorers: Malcolm Thomas & Wendy Bradshaw

Lawrenny moved smoothly into second place in the divisional table after this 51-run success over St Ishmaels where both found it harder than usual to make big scores.

Put in to bat, Lawrenny managed 166 all out and although such a target is often well within Tish’s scope they lurched to 115 all out as the homesters bowled and fielded well.

Kurtis Marsh (38), James Phillips (28), Robbie Williams (28), Brad McDermott-Jenkins (19) and Ian Jenkins (12 not out) scored the bulk of the runs for Lawrenny as Andrew Williams (4 for 42) led the Tish bowling attack, supported by Andrew Pawlett (2 for 24), Brennan Devonald (2 for 25), Harry Nicholas (1 for 41) and Jordan Milich (1 for 40).

Dan Richards (35) led the Tish batting after tea but only Devonald (20 not out) ever stayed long enough for double figures after that as McDermott-Jenkins bowled really well for Lawrenny to grab 5 for 16 alongside Harry Thomas (2 for 27) as they won their fifth game of the season.

Titanic tussle in titanic local derby draw

Cresselly (218 for 8) drew with Carew (219 for 6)

Umpires: Dave Brandon & Richard Merriman

Scorers: Teagan Cartwright & Julie Davies

There was a titanic clash at Cresselly in their local derby against old rivals Carew where the result was in doubt right up to the final delivery where Matthew Lewis needed a six to win it for the home side but despite a brave effort could only manage a four to leave the game drawn just a single run away from a tie.

The Rooks seemed destined for an even bigger score than they managed as they stood at 200 for 1 with five overs left but as wickets inevitably fell in a late chase they mustered only another 17 runs whilst losing five wickets.

Nick Scourfield was in prime form for Carew as the veteran opening bat stroked seven fours and three sixes in his 74 before he was well caught by Iwan Izzard off the slow bowling of Matthew Lewis – and Tom Davies showed what a good all-rounder he has become by hitting four big sixes in his 82 before Shaun Whitfield provided typical late impetus with a rapid 38 at the end.

The successful Carew bowlers were Lewis (1 for 39), Tom Murphy (3 for 32) and Simon Cole (1 for 30), who also top scored for The Doves with ten fours and a six in his 74.

Iwan Izzard (43), Murphy (32) and Dan Sutton (31) were also involved despite the bowling of Tom Davies (4 for 63), Iori Hicks (1 for 32) and Whitfield (3 for 36) in the Carew cause.

It left Cresselly needing 14 off the final over but it all eventually depended on that final ball – and in the final analysis perhaps a draw was the fairest result after such a magnificent contest!

Thomas steers Borderers to Pill Parks success

Llangwm (148 all out) lost to Whitland (189 all out) by 41 runs

Umpires: Arthur Brady & Tony Pasternak

Scorers: Cerys Griffiths & Ann-Marie Jenkins

Jonathan Thomas was again the toast of his Whitland colleagues with an excellent all-round performance at Pill Parks where they were too strong all-round for a Llangwm side still seeking something like its best form.

Thomas looked in good nick for  The Borderers after they lost Geraint Jones (16) and Paul Davies (a very early duck) – striking nine fours and four sixes en route to top score of 72, assisted by skipper Matthew Davies (29), Wayne Howells (31) and Jamie Thomas (15) in final tally of 189 all out.

For Llangwm, the successful bowlers were Matthew Kiff, who looked really sharp in his 5 for 27 analysis as Joe Phillips (2 for 33), Noah Davies (1 for 38) and Luke Brock (1 for 43) were the other successful bowlers.

On a good day individually for the Kiff boys, brother Joe maintained his excellent batting form with five fours and four sixes in his 51, but the only real support came from Will Beresford (36) and Noah Davies (31 not out).

As a consequence, Geraint Jones (4 for 15), Wayne Howells (3 for 42), Matthew Davies (1 for 37) and man of the match Thomas (3 for 41) eased Whitland to a comfortable victory as Llangwm remain rooted to the foot of the table.

Seasiders slump in second innings

Burton (134 for 9) beat Saundersfoot (75 all out) by 59 runs

Umpires: John Williams & Mervyn John

Scorers: Janice Webb & Adge John

Put in to bat by Saundersfoot at Oatfield Park, Burton were anything but favourites for an easy win at tea as they could only muster 134 for 9 which owed much to a classy knock of 46 from talented teenager James Davies, assisted by Jonathan Venables (26), Iestyn Evans (12) and Jack Davies (17) but no-one else was able to stay long against Sam Franklin (2 for 18), Nick Cope (2 for 34), Neil Powling (3 for 36) and John Mansbridge (2 for 15).

But The Seasiders found it equally difficult to score runs as only John Mansbridge (15) and Danny Caine (28) managed double figures as the visitors collapsed to 75 all out.

This was due in no small measure to a terrific spell of bowling by veteran Johnny Scale, who had eight maidens in his 12 overs to return fine figures of 4 for 14 – whilst at the other end Luke Hayman completed his 12-over stint with a 4 for 30 haul.

Jack Davies supported with 2 for 12 as the Burton boys were good value for a second successive win and the chance to leap-frog their opponents at the foot of the table.

Kyle kills off Johnston with a mighty ton

Johnston (78 all out) lost to Narberth (281 for 6) by 203 runs

Scorers: Delyth Summons & Gwyneth Johns

Kyle Quartermaine - brutal 115 not out in only 40 deliveriesA brutal ton from Kyle Quartermaine set up a big win for Narberth at Glebelands.

He came in at No 5 and hit 11 fours and eight sixes to finish 115 not out off 40 balls – leading the visitors to 281-6 in their 45 overs.

The platform had been set early on by openers Ritchie Adams (23) and Hadd Luff, who hit eight fours and a six in his 82.

To their credit Johnston did keep plugging away and Mark Hicks took 3-68, while Liam James claimed 2-51.

But wickets fell regularly in their reply after veteran Steve James had made 18, before a late flurry from Liam Boswell who hit three fours and three sixes in his quick-fire 40.

But Loui Davies took 4-10 in seven overs, while Lewis Hough finished with 3-3 in just 4.1 overs, and Matthew Johns (2-35) helped finish the job.

Carew 2nds easily beat Cresselly counterparts

Carew 2nds (121 for 1) beat Cresselly 2nds (116 for 9) by 9 wickets

Umpires: Simon Richards & Robert Ridge

Robert Hicks - another good undefeated innings for Carew 2ndsThe derby game at Carew was a one sided affair as Eugene McCarney and Robbie Hicks blasted The Rooks to a 9 wicket win over Cresselly 2nds.

The Doves opted to bat but struggled to just 116-0 in 40 overs, after openers Lyn Richards (11) and J Goldsworthy (7) both fell to Jacob Knox.

No 3 Charlie Arthur made 18 but it was Stefan Jenkins who top scored, hitting four fours in his 31 –as Carew kept the squeeze on throughout with wickets shared between Knox (2-13), Barry Evans (2-24), McCarney (2-8), Aaron Hinman (1-23) and Rhys Canton (1-18).

Cresselly got the early strike they needed in the Carew reply as the talented Arthur bowled Haydn Shapcott (7), but opener McCarney went on to crack five fours in his 54 not out and he was joined Hicks, who his six fours and a maximum in his unbeaten 49, as the home side won it inside 31 overs.

Hook surrender table top spot

Hook (84 all out) lost to Pembroke (124 all out) by 40 runs

Umpires: Gareth Brace & Rob Elliott

Hook’s recent momentum was halted as a haul of 4-30 from Rob Smythe led Pembroke to a win that seemed unlikely at tea after they’d been 124 all out.

The visitors were asked to bat and all their top five got starts, but no one could push on as Paul White made 33, alongside Andrew Hay 19 (four fours), Phil Hay 21 (three fours), skipper Jack Harries 17 (two fours) and Jonathan Rogers 16.

But some poor movements between the wickets cost of the as the Hay boys were both run out, as was No 11 Smythe, with Matthew Holder also doing real damage with 5-29 in nine overs. Aled Phelps also took 2-31.

But the Hook reply stuttered from the moment Rogers had Jake Wicks caught for a duck by White early on. Opener George James did continue his good form with 24, including two sixes and a four, but after he became one of Smythe’s four victims only Craig Nutty (13) reached double figures.

Alongside Smythe’s haul Rogers finished with 2-33, Sam Davies 2-8, and White 1-10 to wrap up the win after 34 overs.

Curran keeps on scoring centuries for leaders Llechryd

Pembroke Dock (160 for 8) drew with Llechryd (258 for 5)

John Curran - another century for Llechryds top run makerIt wasn’t quite a 30-point win for leaders Llechryd but they still came away satisfied from Pembroke Dock after yet another century for John Curran.

Despite the rain this week the Imble Lane surface was, as usual, in prime condition for batting and the visitors took full advantage.

Things started well for the Dock when James Betterley (8) fell to Billy Wood, but then Curran and John Lewis took command.

The latter made 63 before being bowled by Nick Daley, who also trapped Rhys Beard (9) LBW and eventually had Curran removed in the deep as he took 3-45 – but by that point the opener had reached 106 to notch his fourth ton of the summer.

Sam Smith (37 not out) and Thomas Davies (20 not out) also boosted the total late on after Wood had bowled Graham Keen (7) in his 2-68.

The Dock were soon in trouble at 32-3 but then it was Scott Griffiths and skipper Craig Butland to held up the visitors.

Griffiths made 38 but it was Butland who top scored with eight boundaries in his 66.

When they both fell Llechryd sensed blood but despite wickets for Rhys (3-26) and Tom (1-1) Beard, Betterley (2-30), and Keen (1-28), the ninth wicket pairing of Niall Brunton (5 not out) and Adam Phillips (0 not out) held out.
