Young Blues finish in style with 100% win record

Crymych Youth 12 - Haverfordwest Youth 46

Haverfordwest Youth showed why they are clear winners of this year’s Pembrokeshire Youth League as they finished with a comfortable victory at Parc Lloyd Thomas against a Crymych side who are likely to finish runners-up if they win their final match of the season, against Pembroke, but without some key players found it difficult to contain The Young Blues’ brand of attacking rugby.

Crymych did manage to score two second half tries by scrum half Ifan James and centre Aled Lewis, one converted by No 10 Owain Evans – and a plus-point was the performance of 16 year old Japp Harries, playing in this older age-group for the first time.

But Haverfordwest were already 29-0 ahead at half time as their big pack took control and at the final whistle they had a try hat-trick for powerful No 8 Kieran Harries, plus two tries by busy scrum half Alfie Thomas,  with others from bustling hooker Harri Evans, outstanding prop Iori Curtis and outside half Rio Phillips, who controlled patterns of play well as he landed three conversions and used the direct running of centre Max Fenn and full back Liam Hughes to good effect.

It was a hard-fought contest and Crymych deserve credit for forming a pre-match guard of honour for Haverfordwest to run on to the pitch because The Young Blues finished with 579 points whilst conceding 177 points, with 93 tries in the process

Great praise must go to the Haverfordwest squad, head coach Steve Parry, Andrew Thicker, Tom Stirling and Ade Smith for all their work in the coaching set-up as their proud record of played won, won 14, leaves them almost 20 points ahead of the chasing pack!

Aber win well as Young Otters disappoint

Narberth Youth  19 - Aberystwyth 34

Narberth Youth were unable to play as well as coach Jason Jennings hoped for as they were unable to repeat their 27-24 win in Aber early in the season and conceded six tries whilst only being able to claim three scores of their own.

Aber played really well to carve out tries for Cai Williams, Keir Creasley, Jac Jones, Trystan Lewis, Owain Llyr Hywel and Cynan Jones, with conversions by Steffan Jones and Cerith Williams.

Narberth, who didn’t tackle and cover as well as usual, still manged to secure tries by scrum half Ioan Jones, replacement flanker James Thomas and winger Ashton O’Riorden,, who also landed two conversions, with prop Noah Jenkins, second row Jake Levitt and full back Ellis Phillips also catching the eye..
