Division Two (West):
Seagulls concede Aber double
Fishguard 7 - Aberystwyth 19
Aberystwyth had already beaten Fishguard & Goodwick by 33-19 in Mid Wales and the second-placed outfit completed the double over a Seagulls’ side which lost a fair bit of their own lineout ball and needed to show just a little more composure under pressure.
Aber opened the scoring after ten minutes when good pressure up front allowed second row Robbie Parry to crash over for a try which outside half Jason Rees duly converted.
There were no further points in a tight first period but The Mid Walians added an unconverted try when a Fishguard clearance attempt was charged down before a kick ahead and chase saw centre Miles Hamilton claim the touchdown.
The Seagulls battled their way back from a good forward-orientated move which saw Gavin Walsh claim the try wide out – and No 10 James Griffiths added the extra points with an excellent kick.
But home hopes foundered with dropped passes and taking of wrong options at key moments which resulted in Aber claiming a third try with six minutes to go when a catch and drive set up the platform for centre Paul Stubbs to score and Rees slotted a well-judged conversion.

Division 3 (West) A:
Blues bag bonus point win
Haverfordwest 33 - Neyland 0
Haverfordwest maintained their position at the top of the table with a comfortable win over old rivals Neyland, The Blues scoring five tries whilst making sure that they maintained a clean scoresheet thanks to some good defending.
The home side had won 19-10 in Neyland but were more on top in this tussle as they had already assured a bonus point by half time, scoring four tries and establishing a 26-0 lead.
To be fair to the All Blacks, they restricted the opposition to just a try from skipper Jon Mason after the oranges as forwards Craig Power, Gareth Lawlor and Jack Harries all tackled hard for Neyland.
Lee Summons, switched from scrum half to wing, scored the Blues’ first two tries after good handling by centre Matthew Phillips, full back Gareth John and winger Scott Candler.
Mikey Jones converted the first Summons’ try and the outside half also added the extra points to other tries claimed by prop Terry Lovell and centre Moji Naivulu.
Other Haverfordwest players to catch the eye were second rows Inise Vikili and Gareth Phillips, Jamie Zambas, and Mikey Griffiths, whilst young scrum half Tom Parry linked well with Jones in keeping his back division in action.
Teifisiders too strong for young Quins
Cardigan 34 - Pembroke Dock Quins 14
Cardigan played really well against a depleted Pembroke Dock Harlequins side but visiting coach Ossie Boswell can take comfort from the fact that the talented youth players he had to draft in played really well against a side with one eye on promotion.
Liam Scourfield, Rhys Bradney, Harry Owen, Ben Hathaway were amongst the teenagers included and inevitably the Quins took a while to settle – and Cardigan were good value for a 17-0 interval lead as centre Rhydian Jenkins, hooker Aled Phillips and left winger Dafydd Watkins all crossed for tries, one of them converted by Iestyn Crompton.
The Quins started the second half well but failed to turn pressure into points and were punished by further Cardigan tries by open side flanker Gethin Davies, converted by Crompton, and strong-running centre Emyr Harries.
But the Quins finally broke their points duck from an astute kick ahead by Lewis Davies which winger John Turner did well to scoop up and pop up the try-scoring pass to Hathaway, who also added the extra points.
Experienced No 8 Colin Davies scored Cardigan’s sixth try but the Quins had the final word when Bradney charged down a kick and from the kick ahead Harry Owen sped to the line and Hathaway converted to allow his side to finish on a high note in defeat.
Boathouse Boys beat weakened Wasps
Llangwm 0 - Laugharne 31
Llangwm produced their usual spirited resistance against Laugharne but were unable to stop a high scoring double because The Boathouse Boys’ had already beaten The Wasps by 65-0 in their home match.
But there was never a likelihood of such a big win in this tougher tussle on a heavy Pill Parks pitch, as Llangwm tackled well and had half chances which they were unable to grasp in the heavy conditions but team manager Richard Scriven was quick to praise the performances of his young charges afterwards.
Tom Jameson and Grant Walters scored Laugharne’s first half tries, with others coming afterwards from skipper Carl Smith, Jameson again and Thomas Thomas.
Jameson also contributed three conversions for a personal haul of 16 points as his side pocketed a bonus-point win, whilst Llangwm are still seeking their first success in a difficult campaign for The Wasps!

St Davids 0 - Milford 52
The Mariners brushed off their recent inactivity with a bonus point win at St Davids – keeping themselves firmly in the title race in the process.
The visitors had use of a strong wind in the first half, but were repelled by some determined St Davids defence as the score remained 0-0 some 20 minutes in.
But after Milford second row Dai Sweeny powered over, the same player quickly set up a second try when his charging run led to a score for centre Dan Jenkins.
No 10 Joseph Kiff then sniped over following a scrum against the head, and Jenkins and centre partner James Thomas both rounded off some good handling for two further scores before the break.
Kiff added all five conversions to give The Mariners a 35-point half time lead.
That became 40-0 shortly after half time as Jenkins sped through for his hat trick – before The Saints, with flanker Scott Riches and second row Chris Jenkins to the fore, enjoyed a heavy spell of pressure but failed to grab the consolation score they deserved.
The young Milford backline then threw the ball about in an open final quarter, with winger James Trueman and Thomas adding further tries, and Kiff adding one more conversion. Veteran second row Sweeney was adjudged as the Milford man of the match for his total involvement and back row man Dean Aldred came on to play his final game at 40 years of age!
