Rick raises the roof at Tenby United
Tenby United RFC's clubhouse in Frog Street rang with laughter in midweek as those in attendance were regaled with rugby stories by Rick O'Shea, the popular presenter and interviewer with 'Scrum Five' on BBC Wales.
Introduced by former UWIC pal Darren Griffiths, who used to play rugby for the Seasiders, Rick revealed the lighter side of being involved in television and had stories galore about those he met in the game.
He mentioned that his father John was a Welsh international prop who had the dubious distinction of being the only British Lion to be sent off in a test match and still dines out on that fact in Australia, where he has lived for over two decades.
Of Irish extraction, Rick assumed a rich Irish accent to tell some tales that had his captive audience in fits, and a not-so-good New Zealand accent which somehow made the yarn even funnier!
The evening had got off to a lively start with an amazing display by local man Claudio Guerreiro, whose ability to juggle golf balls on a nine iron, sand wedge or other club showed why he had appeared on 'Britain's Got Talent' with Simon Cowell.
Then Darren Griffiths told a few jokes in his inimitable all-action style and a buffet was provided by ladies from the club before Mr O'Shea took centre stage for over an hour and it was generally agreed that he was one of the best after-dinner speakers heard in the area for a while.
Organizing this successful event was former legendary outside half Ben Childs and he told the PembrokeshireSport.co.uk that he was delighted by the response from current and former players, officials and supporters – and he was rightly thanked for all his hard work behind the scenes.
