Laugharne power to eight-try win over brave Wasps

Division Three (West) A:

Adam Davies scored a try for LaugharneLaugharne 46 - Llangwm 6

Laugharne bagged a bonus-point win over a typically gritty Llangwm side who were still in the game after 32 minutes as they trailed by 10-6 – but the home side added another score before the break and took control in inevitably heavy conditions at Wooford Park to add a further five tries without response.

The match was originally scheduled for 16th November but Laugharne had a WRU National Bowl match that day so both clubs elected for a pre-Christmas run out instead – and the game was played at a good pace despite the conditions underfoot.

Laugharne start well but Llangwm cling on . . .

Luke Hayman kicked two penalties for LlangwmLaugharne took an early lead when influential scrum half Adam Davies sniped through for an unconverted try but The Wasps quickly responded after good work up front by Gethin Thomas, John O’Boyle, both flankers named James Lewis and Gethin Bateman, the St Davids’ coach playing on permit.

They earned a penalty which No 10 Luke Hayman landed and the same sequence took place again at the end of the first quarter when Adam Davies claimed his second unconverted try and Hayman landed a second penalty after partner Ian Griffiths had combined with Aled Morgan, Gavin Jones and Phil Llewellyn.

. . . Until Williams grabs a vital score

But Laugharne gradually gained a territorial advantage as powerful front rowers Dorian harries, Ritchie Waters and Ben Lloyd were joined by Tomos Rees, Dylan Gibby and Rhodri Thomas in securing set-piece possession and from a scrum five drive it was Mikey Williams who gained the touch-down for outside half Tom Jameson to add the extra points.

Hard as Llangwm tried, however, with hard tackling from Dan Morgan, Yale Grice and Lewis Murphy, they found it hard to stem the tide thereafter.

Laugharne Winger Will Evans sped over for a tryOne way scoring traffic

Centre Tom Davies rounded off early Laugharne second-half pressure as he opened Laugharne’s try scoring and there was only going to be one winner.

Winger Will Evans sped through; second row Carl Smith, centre Tom Thomas and replacement winger Antonio Setaro added further tries, two of them converted by Jameson.

This success steered Laugharne into third place in the section table, with a game in hand and just three points adrift of Lampeter Town and St Clears, whilst Llangwm linger in 11th spot but again showing their team spirit in being able to field a team for such a tough trip so close to Christmas.
