Narberth try scorers - Lewys Gibby, Josh Evans, Tom Powell, Dean James, Ashley Sutton

Otters slam sorry Steel Men

Tata Steel 5 - Narberth 67

Narberth man of the match - Josh EvansNarberth continued their electric start to the new season with an easy win over a Tata Steel side that seems destined to be one of the whipping boys of the division – and The Otters were already 45-5 in front at half time as winger Josh Evans again led the way with four tries as he rounded off some excellent handling by his eager colleagues.

Centre Darren Rees also showed his finishing power as he shared the first four tries with Evans, with another coming from centre Ilan Phillips as Tata could only muster a try by Efan Ellis when they were already 26 points adrift.

The Otters had suffered a pre-match problem as No 10 Ianto Griffiths sustained a hamstring twinge in the warm-up and so coach Liam Gadd swished Ashley Sutton to outside half and put Lewys Gibby at full back – and both showed their versatility with strong performances.
Sutton called the shots well and opened the second half scoring to go with five conversions, whilst Gibby also got his name on the scoresheet, as did skipper Tom Powell, who certainly led by example, and winger Dean James.

It meant The Otters were good value for victory and it came as no surprise that Josh Evans received the man of the match award for his quartet of tries!

Narberth: Lewys Gibby: Josh Evans; Aled Rees; Ilan Phillips; Dean James: Ashley Sutton: Alex Williams; Lewis Davies; Tom Clarke; Sean Janes: Rhys Williams; Alex Jenkins: Harry Phillips; Tom Powell (Capt); Rich Rees. Replacements: Kyle Hamer; George Rossiter; Josh Hamer; James Price.

Preseli Men enjoy an incredible come-back

Ystalyfera 18 - Crymych 47

Iestyn Wood - two tries for Crymych teenagerCrymych completed an amazing come-back at Ystalyfera as they trailed by 13 points at half time and were 18-7 adrift within five minutes of the restart – but whatever coaches Elgan Vittle and Ifan Phillips said at the oranges it certainly had its effect at The Preseli Men added a further 40 points without response as they almost ran a rapidly-tiring Ystalyfera off their feet.

There were worrying signs for Crymych as the home side had a try from flanker Sam Mahoney, converted by Sam Cowley to go with two penalties – and an early second half score from skipper Kieran McKay, playing in the middle of the front row.

Crymych flanker Osian Davies started the Preseli Men’s revival with their first try, converted by winger Eilir George, who then proceeded to add the extra points to two scores by last year’s youth captain Iestyn Wood,(one from a charge down), winger Ned Bennett and Ifan Davies.

Replacement Rhydian Howells was on hand to round off the second-half rout and although George was for once off target with the conversion it mattered little because local pundits were left scratching their heads about when there was a more remarkable come-back by the powerful Preseli Men!

Crymych: Adam Phillips: Ned Bennett; Lawrence Headlam; Rhys Davies; Eilir George: Ifan Davies; Daf Phillips: Luke Griffiths-Dawes; Lee Griffiths; Ryan Rees: Iestyn Wood; Llyr Davies: Osian Davies; Gethin Davies; Carwyn Phillips (capt). Division One (West):

Big booster for Borderers

Whitland 27 - Penclawdd 15

Geraint Jones - vital points for Whitland17 points from Geraint Jones helped Whitland record an excellent home win over Penclawdd at Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn as The Borderers were 14-3 ahead at the break and kept their noses in front as the result of a good performance from their pack and backs alike.

Pacy winger Owyn Griffiths grabbed the first Whitland try as quick hands put him away before The Cocklemen responded with a penalty from Dan Guaneri after good work by Joe Jones and Tom McCann but as the home back row of Dan Bennett, Trystan Rees and Zac France-Miller put in a good shift the penalties came and centre Jones landed three of them to give his side an 11-point interval lead.

In the second half Marc Jones, Benji Kirk, Raff Williams and the rest of the home eight earned good possession that allowed halves Scott Newton and Rhys Nicholas to exert their influence – ad it was Newton who scored The Borderers’ second try, which Jones converted to go with another three penalties.

Penclawdd battled hard to score tries by hooker and skipper Luke Snell and scrum half Iwan James, one converted by Dan Guaneri, but The Borderers retained control and fully deserved their victory.

Whitland: Harry Fuller: Will James; Monty Milton; Geraint Jones; Owyn Griffiths: Scott Newton; Rhys Nicholas: Chris Marks; Marc Jones; Ceiron Evans: Raff Williams; Benji Kirk: Dan Bennett; Trystan Rees; Zac France-Miller. Division Two (West):

Colella claims four tries as Seagulls win again

Amman United 11 - Fishguard & Goodwick 43

Sion Colella - FOUR tries for Seagulls No 8Fishguard & Goodwick maintained their positive start to the new season as they followed up their home win over Milford Haven with this comfortable win against Amman United where they also bagged a deserved bonus point in the process.

Leading the way as so often these days was No 8 Sion Colella, who has taken over the injured Chris Shousha’s role and was constantly in support, with four tries as his reward for so much effort alongside Cai Llewellyn and Will Lewis in an impressive back row.

It was Colella who gave The Seagulls their first try, sandwiched neatly in between a brace of penalties from new skipper James Griffiths before Amman showed they had some battling spirit as they came back with a penalty by Iestyn Griffiths and an unconverted try by Ioan Richards.

Skipper Griffiths notched another penalty for The Seagulls and his namesake Iestyn replied for Amman but right on the break a clever cross-field kick was neatly collected by young winger Dylan Scott – and then fellow winger Robbie Jones did well to gather a loose ball after a move had broken down picked up and sped to the line.

The second half was all Fishguard as they adapted to the heat better and they not only restricted Amman to a blank scoresheet they also added three further tries at regular intervals, all claimed by Colella, with two of them converted by Griffiths.

Fishguard & Goodwick: Creegan Foot: Dylan Scott; James Reynolds; James Griffiths; Robbie Jones: Jake Jenkins; Max Jones: Will Delaney; Liam Wilkes; Iwan McVeigh: Rhys Lewis; Bryn Thomas: Will Lewis; Cai Llewellyn; Sion Colella. Replacements: Matt Driver; Ryan Foot; Kial Keane; Dan Evans; Ioan Hawkridge-Jones.

Rossiter back with a bang for Seasiders

Mumbles 10 - Tenby United 29

Harry Rossiter - man of match for Tenby United outside halfHarry Rossiter played his first match at outside half for Tenby United for some time and earned the man of the match tag for the way he cleverly controlled play alongside Cam Broadhurst and took on the place-kicking duties to good effect.

The Seasiders went behind early on as Andrew Richards landed a Mumbles penalty but two kicks on target by Rossiter gave The Seasiders an early lead they were never to lose as Rob Luly and new recruit Hywel Baker caught the eye up front with their work rate.

Tenby lead 13-3 at the break because right on half time they were awarded several scrum fives that broke up and they were awarded a penalty where No 8 Jack Broadhurst spotted a gap, took a quick tap and ploughed over the line for Rossiter to add the extra points.

Rossiter opened the second-half scoring with another penalty and also converted a try by prop Luly and added another penalty before Mumbles scrum half Andrew Richards managed to touch down at the post and slotted the conversion.

It was appropriate that Rossiter rounded off the scoring with a penalty but as coach Jonathan Evans said afterwards, this was an excellent team performance because it is never easy to win at Mumbles and The Seasiders showed good resolve and total commitment in winning their second game of the season.

Tenby United: Gwion Jones: Ryan Bolton; Jack Gooding; Bradley Cramb; Oakley Milton: Harry Rossiter; Cam Broadhurst: Ethan Morgan; Dan Allen; Rob Luly: Tom Barrass; Luke Dedman (Capt): Hywel Baker; Jack Brown; Jack Broadhurst. Replacements: James Morgan; Liam Pugh; Mike Davis; Jake Henson; Archie Treadaway-Williams. Travelling reserve: Luke Hartland.

Mariners collect deserved bonus-point win

Milford Haven 31 - Carmarthen Athletic 19

Dan McClelland - opening try for Milford HavenMilford Haven coach Steve Martin was delighted with his team’s victory against Carmarthen Athletic at The Obs as they maintained the progress they had shown in defeat at Fishguard the previous week.

The Mariners showed good self-discipline and their focus on running the ball from good bases saw them secure a deserved bonus point with tries from scrum half Dan McClelland, full back James Williams, outside half Ollie Rothero and centre Jamie Lewis, all converted by winger James Trueman alongside a first half penalty.

Young back rower Dylan Morgan was chosen as man of the match, just ahead of prop Aaron Mayne. McClelland and Lewis but this was a solid whole-squad effort which showed what The Mariners can do after they led 17-5 at half time and were never headed thereafter.

Milford Haven: James Williams: Lee Riley; Jamie Lewis; Dan Jenkins; James Trueman: Ollie Rothero; Dan McClelland: Aaron Mayne; Luke Ryan; Ben Jenkins: Jay Goodall; Brandon Cooper: Zac Davies ()capt); Dylan Morgan; Ryan Mansell. Replacements: Shaun Devonald; Iestyn Howells; Ethan Aldred; Dylan Evans, Steve Martin.

Blues bag impressive win

Pembroke 15 - Haverfordwest 37

Haverfordwest showed they will be a force in this division alongside several other contenders as they were good value for victory against a Pembroke side which had run in 70+ points seven days earlier.

The Blues’ pack played really well and as a result they were already 27-10 ahead at half time with early tries from winger Scott Candler (converted by Owen Roberts) and centre Owen Llewellyn before Luke Alderwick notched a penalty for The Scarlets.

But winger Jack Evans and flanker Ioan Phillips crossed for two more Haverfordwest tries, both converted by Roberts, which already earned The Blues a bonus point before Pembroke had the final word with a tap and go try from their best forward, Cyle Weatherall which Alderwick converted.

The Blues were on top up front as their solid front row of Dan Berry, Jamie Zambass and especially Terry Lovell was given an edge with the driving force of Carl Busch and Adam Clarke which was also vital in the lineouts, whist Matty Phillips and Mike Griffiths were totally involved alongside man of the match Ioan Phillips in the back row.

The Scarlets did manage a second try after the break when Weatherall went close but cleverly managed to scoop the ball to winger Josh Griffiths, who was adjudged the Scarlets’ man of the match.

The Blues always maintained control, however, as halves Lee Summons and Archie Thomas kept their pack going forward and further tries by Roberts kept them well ahead – and with five points (not expected by some pundits!) to take back over the Cleddau Bridge as their reward!

Pembroke:  Rhys Bradney: Simon Stanford; Charlie Shiels; Stephen Brown; Josh Griffiths: Luke Alderwick; Jarred Sherratt: Lloyd Davies (Capt); Seamus Wiseman; Jamie Brayford: Dai Beynon; Cyle Weatherall: Andrew Evans; Jordan Evans; Rhodri Walters.

Points galore as All Blacks battle with makeshift side

Neyland 34 - Laugharne 66

Neyland and Laugharne conspired to produce a century of points at the Athletic Ground and although The All Blacks could have few complaints about defeat against a side who already seem likely to feature in the promotion race they certainly played their part.

Coach Steve Evans, never one to mice words, said afterwards that the way his young team played, with so many having to fill gaps out of position because of injury, was a credit to them.

We were unable to obtain details of scorers with so many points flowing throughout the game and Neyland’s unofficial press officer Peter Davies was at home in bed with pleurisy and we join the players in wishing ‘The Swansea jack’ a speedy recovery!

Neyland Squad: Asha Gledhill; Alex Swales; Mark James; Ben James; Iestyn Evans; Jasper Endean; Owain Evans (Capt); Ben Williams; George Evans;  Liam Rees, Lucas Jones;  Jordan Allen  Wright; Dan Hart; Sam Cataki; Callum O’Riorden; Craig Power; Joel Thomas; Ebz Sokoiwasa.

Cardis cruise to Pill Parks’ success

Llangwm 3 - Cardigan 53

Two Jack Taylor tries helped Cardigan to an easy win at Pill Parks as the Teifisiders were already 20-3 up at the interval and added five more tries in the second half as both teams deserve credit for trying to run the ball at every opportunity – but with The Teifisiders always holding an edge up front and with pacy aplenty behind.

Veteran No 10 Mike Jones landed a solitary second-half penalty for The Wasps but by then The Teifisiders had already grabbed a first try from Taylor alongside others by winger Iwan John and influential outside half Shaun Leonard, who also kicked a conversion and penalty.

There was no shortage of effort up front by the likes of Ashley James, skipper Phil Llewellyn, Gethin Thomas, Jason Mock, Gavin Jones and the rest of the home pack but although they had a few half chances they were unable to turn pressure into points and Cardigan had further tries from centre Marcus Castle,  scrum half Llyr Jones, Taylor, replacement wingers Wyn Williams and Deian Davies, four of them converted by Leonard to give him a personal haul of 18 points.

Llangwm: Jack Roberts: Flynn Tjoonk; Yale Grice; Jed Evans; Ollie Kersey: Mike Jones; Steffan Thomas: Aled Rogers; Phil Llewellyn (Capt); Gavin Jones: Gethin Thomas; Sam Rickwood: Owen Jones; Ashley James; Jason Mock. Replacements: Joe Newton; Jake Thomas; James Lewis; Matthew John; Matthew Owens.

Cardigan: Shaun Leonard: John Lumb; Marcus Castle; Emyr Harries (Capt); Jack Taylor: Jac Davies; Llyr Jones: Will Brice; Luke Palmer-Davies; Ben Cox: Sion Phillips; Kester Adams: Hedd James; Jackson Tucker Lynch; Geraint Williams. Replacements: Llyr Jones; Aaron Tompkinson; Iwan John; Kieran Greenland; Deian Davies. Travelling reserves: Shane Lee; Wyn Williams.

Aberaeron power and pace pays off

Aberaeron 60 - Pembroke Dock Harlequins 12

Harry Owen - try as reward for his efforts with The QuinsAberaeron were too strong overall for a gritty Pembroke Dock side who never gave up trying and were finally rewarded with late consolation tries from No 8 Harry Owen and prop Dan McLeod, one converted by full back Ben Hathaway, as proof of the fact that they never gave up trying, even after the home side were 25-0 ahead at the break and continued to show what a strong team hey have after the much-needed interval water.

For Aberaeron there were tries from centre Gethin Jenkins (4), hooker Rhys Jones, second row Bleddyn Thomas, winger Steffan Jones, plus Owain Wozencroft and Llyr Davies alongside six conversions and penalty by Steff Rees.

Pembroke Dock Harlequins: Ben Hathaway: Owain Turner; Lewis Hunter; Jack Mallitte; Tom Donovan: Kieran Machin; Tom Wheeler: Kieran Cookson; George Bellmaine; Dan McLeod: Sam James; Andrew Edwards: Jordan Palmer; Dan Wilkes; Harry Owen.
