Quins cause a KO Cup upset
Pembroke Dock Harlequins 14 - Haverfordwest 12
Pembroke Dock Harlequins produced the first real shock of this season’s Knock Out Cup as they entertained Haverfordwest at Bierspool and survived a relatively east last-ditch penalty for The Blues which saw a win for the Barnett father and son Steve and Craig against their former club.
The form book suggested it might be a relatively easy passage through for the visitors since they have won four out of five matches in Division Three (West) whilst The Quins are currently second in Division Four (West) A , with four wins out of six games played.
Front rower Jamie Zambas put the visitors ahead with a close-range drive but after skipper Ben Hathaway missed to challenging penalties The Quins’ kicking duties in the second half were taken over by Aaron James, who landed two three-pointers to put his team narrowly ahead, although he missed the conversion attempt when winger Gethin Bradney rounded off some good work by Craig Barnett,, Jake Griffiths, Morgan Rogers and Mark Van Rhyn to nudge his team 11-5 in front.
Back came The Blues and hard-working flanker John Hart just beat scrum half Liam Eaton to the touch-down and full back Jake Morgan added the extras – only for James to kick his team back in front at 14-12 with time running out.
And then came that last-gasp attack by Haverfordwest which would have given them a narrow win but the all-important kick sailed wide of the mark to give the vociferous home crowd something to cheer - and the news that their reward is another home tussle in the next round against Tenby United!

Trebanos too strong after bright Crymych start
Crymych 26 - Trebanos 50

Crymych lost their home match against high-flying Trebanos to complete a run of eight defeats ibn a row but at least the Preseli Men could take comfort from the fact that scored two tries in each half to pouch a bonus point.
Indeed, they actually opened the scoring with a try by Lee Griffiths, converted by Eilir George, who added their second seven points to lead 14-7 – but the visitors produced a real period of power play to jump swiftly into a 31 lead at the interval.
Trebanos added a further 19 points after the oranges, two of them converted, but Crymych had a second try by hooker Lee Griffiths and another from Winger Rhodri George, both goaled by Eilir George, as Trebanos stay in the top four and Crymych remain firmly rooted at the foot of the table.

Division Four (West) A:
Scarlets win first leg of Willington Slate
Pembroke 35 - St Davids 19

Pembroke produced an excellent team display to beat old rivals St Davids at Crickmarren and pouched a full five points as their reward – and also gave them a good start in their quest to halt The Saints’ run of success in retaining the Willington Slate, a fine trophy competed for annually by the clubs.
It is awarded to the team with the higher points aggregate over the two matches, donated by the Willington family in memory of the late Gareth ‘Spike’ Willington and his son Daniel, who were tragically lost at sea, and shows the genuine friendship that exists between the clubs
The Scarlets took the early lead with a try by Rhodri Walters, converted by Rhys Johns, before The saints fought back with five points from Bob Froy, who also converted a George Raymond try to put his side 12-7 in front.
But then in the 34
th and 40
th minutes The Scarlets regained the initiative with converted tries by Zach Jones and Lewys Gibby, playing for his former club on permit, so that Pembroke stood ahead by 21-12 at half time.
The Scarlets continued to gather points, when The Saints failed to cash in on half-chances, as Shaun Dalling used his pace to cross twice and Rhys Johns made it five conversions out of five to ensure a home win as Jon Wood gained the Man of the Match award..
It was appropriate that George Raymond claimed his second Saints’ score, converted by Mike Gurney, to narrow the points differential to 16 for the return match later in the season, when the fate of the ‘Willington Slate’ will be decided.
Pembroke: Rhys Johns: Evan Davies; Kodi Bratcher; Shaun Darling; Zach Evans: James Allen; Josh Greenwood: Lloyd Davies (Capt); Dan Davies; Jamie Brayford: William Edwards; Scott Powell: Jon Wood; Rhydian Eynon; Rhodri Walters.

Replacements: Ben Evans; Adam Williams; Owain Morris; Tom Goodson; Montie Lavin; Gethin Bateman.
Powerful Ponty show why they are top of the table
Llangwm 0 - Pontyberem 43

Pontyberem showed why they are top of the table and already firm favourites for promotion with this convincing win at Pill Parks against a Llangwm side which deserves every credit for the way they battled hard until the final whistle but were up against an experienced combination of slick backs and ball-winning forwards.
Ponty were already 31 points ahead at the interval and could only must another 12 points in a much tighter second period, with Joe Newton, Seth Hughes, Callum Jenkins and Ben Elrick doing well to stem the flow of possession that was being utilised by Rhodri Lewis – and with Dylan Philpott and George James trying to utilise hard-won possession.
The Ponty tries were scored by Tom Lloyd, Luke Williams, Josh Farnell, Jamie Harris, Ellis Nicholas, Cory Hardy and Nathan Fisher, four of them converted by Rhodri Lewis, to give them a 100% start to their campaign and The Wasps stay near the foot of the table but still showing their typical Llangwm spirit!
Llangwm: Alfie Elrick: Rhydian Jones; Owain Jones; Joe Johns; Aidan Rees: George James; Dylan Philpott: Joe Newton; Ben Elrick; Callum Jenkins: Gavin Jones; Luke Sandell: Lewis Tucker; James Wade; Seth Hughes.
Replacements: Mason Kerrison; Aaron Davies; Ian Griffiths; Yale Grice; David Pgch.
