Newport Rugby Club beat the Pembrokeshire & District Junior Union in this entertaining annual tussle between the county’s winning junior union club from the previous season and the local junior union representative side.
 
Well refereed by David Byrne, there were seven tries for an interested crowd to enjoy before Newport emerged victorious by nine points, having claimed four of those tries by open-side flanker and skipper Will Kerr, inside centre Bleddyn Phillips, second row Mike Rogers and outside half Tomos Rees, who slotted all four conversions.
 
Kerr caught the eye as part of a bustling back row that also included Osian Rees and Simmons, with half backs Ben Davies and Rees using hard-won possession to maintain their momentum.
 
Scrum half Adam Davies led the county team by example with his little darts around the fringes and good service for Sam Phillips, with Rhodri Davies, Kevin Ormond and TrystanLewis also playing well up front.
 
The County’s tries came from winger James Davies, second row Trystan Lewis and replacement Aled Morgan, two of them converted by No 10 Sam Phillips.
 
The Pembrokeshire & District Junior Union’s next match is at Cardigan, where they will play the Teifisiders 2^nd XV for the Reg Jones Memorial Trophy.
