Match One:
Pembroke power past struggling Hook
Pembroke (127 for 5) beat Hook (61 all out) by 66 runs
Indeed, apart from receiving 24 runs from ‘Mr Extras’ the margin of defeat might have been even wider!
Luke Butler and Jack Harries got Pembroke off to a flying start as both quickly reached the retirement requirement, keeper Butler belting four and two sixes as he faced only 13 balls and Harries stroking three boundaries in his 17 deliveries faced. Aakash Marwadi and Krunal Patel scored very quickly and then Callum davies and talented youngster Jay Sutherland maintained the momentum util their 12-over score also saw 16 extras boosting their challenging tally.
All four of the Hook bowlers conceded at least a run per ball – and then their batting collapsed against the Pembroke opening pair of Krunal Patel, whose swinging deliveries saw him claim two wickets alongside two catches right against the back wall which saved two sixes, and Davies grabbed three.
Jack Harries and Jay Sutherland also made sure that Seth Willington was the only Hook batsmen to just manage double figures – and if Pembroke can learn to reduce their excess wide deliveries, they could be a force to be reckoned with!
Pembroke Batting: Jack Harries 26, Luke Butler 25, Aakash Marwadi 19, Krunal Patel 17, Connor Davies 14, Jay Sutherland 10, Extras 16
Hook Bowling: Aled Phelps 1-29, Charlie Holder 1-25
Hook Batting: Seth Willington 10, Extras 24
Pembroke Bowling: Callum Davies 3-12, Krunal Patel 2-16, Jack Harries 1.22
Match Two:
Seniors A gain success at last
Pembs Seniors A (113 all out) beat Haverfordwest A (95 for 6) by 18 runs
The Vets got off to the worst possible start as Welsh international Kevin Bowen departed first ball to a sharp gulley catch by Town skipper Pete Soulsby off Brandon Dewstowe, who bowled well to finish with two wickets.
But David Haynes and Nick Daley looked strong after Alan Webster was run out, both reaching the retirement score before Gregg Miller and Andrew Williams also contributed double figures, as did the extras column.
Haynes and Daley returned later to the fray and moved steadily past the 30-mark until mayhem arrived in the final two deliveries as Mr Haynes ran a clearly-disappointed Daley out like a dog and then did the same for himself off the last ball – but by then both had shown there is talent-aplenty for both in the batting stakes.
The Town lost Jason Stobbs to a first-over run out but Chri Jackon and Brandon Dewstowe battled well until the latter was neatly-stumped by Miller as one of Andrew Williams three victims, and the ex-Neyland captain did the same again for Alan Webster after George Twigg had batted well.
Jackson, a young physiotherapist at Withybush Hospital, was clear top scorer and was joined late on by skipper and work colleague Soulsby, but both fell in the inevitable late dash for runs – but it was the Seniors A who kept their nerve to claim victory!
Seniors A Batting: David Haynes 33, Nick Daley 32, Gregg Miller 13, Andrew Williams 14, Extras 12
Haverfordwest A Bowling: Brandon Dewstowe 2-23
Haverfordwest A Batting: Chris Jackson 38, Brandon Dewstowe 18, Extras 13
Seniors A Bowling: Alan Webster 1-25, Kevin Bowen 1-16, Andrew Williams 3-27
Match Three:
High-flying Rooks take down The Doves!
Carew (119 for 5) beat Cresselly (57 all out) by 62 runs
Jacob Knox had departed early in the game but Connor Davies, skipper Corey Hall and George Waters played a role before Heaps returned to reach one short of a deserved half century that was literally strewn with boundaries.
George Davies was certainly the pick of the Cresselly bowling with three wickets, with Griff Jenkins also claiming one success but their other bowlers struggled as Heaps kept on top.
When Cresselly batted, only veteran opener Tom Rowlands and last man Lewis Jones managed double figures as wickets fell regularly and were unable to prevent Corey Hall and especially Jacob Knox serving up miserly spells and a wicket apiece along with Connor Davies, who grabbed two more.
It certainly earned Carew the indoor bragging rights as Cresselly lost by such a massive margin!
Carew Batting: Dan Heaps 49*, Connor Davies !5, George Waters 19, Extras 15
Cresselly Bowling Griff Jenkins 1-23, George Davies 3-22,
Cresselly Batting: Tom Rowlands 16, Lewis Jones 12
Carew Bowling: Corey Hall 1-5, Jacob Knox 1-4 (1 maiden), Connor Davies 2-17
