Herbie’s top three lead them to victory
Herbrandston (87 for 4) beat Lawrenny (75 all out) by 12 runs
Britton managed double figures as did Malloy but Atticus Kingston (35 not out in only 18 balls) sped to the retirement requirement and returned to action after his father Rob, Rhys Power and Robbie Hood fell cheaply against useful bowling by Rhys Daley, Rhys Eynon and Taylor Lewis, who all claimed a wicket apiece to ensure that the final Herbie tally was less than at the half-way stage might have been expected.
Noah Williams went early to a good catch by Britton off Atticus Kingston before brothers Finlay and Oscar Lewis steadied things down until skipper Finlay departed with 10 from 15 balls.
There were cameos from Rhys Eynon and Rhys Daley in support of Oscar’s retirement score but with Chalie Malloy leading the way with two wickets for peanuts along with Britton, whose 1 for 5 spell included a rare maiden, Kingston, Rhys Power and Robbie Hood claiming a wicket each it was Herbie who nudged their way home in a competitive tussle between two good teams.
Herbrandston Batting: Charlie Malloy 19, Morgan Britton 10, Atticus Kingston 35*
Lawrenny Bowling: Rhys Daley 1-11, Rhys Eynon 1-18, Noah Williams 0-14, Taylor Lewis 1-19
Lawrenny Batting: Finlay Lewis 10, Oscar Lewis 29*, Rhys Eynon 12, Rhys Daley 17
Herbie Bowling: Morgan Britton 1-5, Charlie Malloy 2-11, Atticus Kingston 1-16, Rhys Power 1-16, Robbie Hood 1-27
F & G battle hard in absorbing clash
Fishguard (101 for 4) beat Narberth (91 all out) by 10 runs
F & G suffered a dreadful start as their key run makers in Nigel Delaney and Ashish Jeyes managed only three runs between them but Iwan James steadied the ship with an excellent unbeaten knock – and although Ollie Sinnott departed cheaply, he found support in Ashley Bent and especially Rhys Dalling, who batted far better than his No 6 berth would suggest.
Loui Davies and Lewis Hough were the Narberth wicket-takers but these ace run-makers suffered the same early fate as they also shared three runs as skipper Delaney took a terrific catch off Ashish Jayes’ bowling and there was the first of the run outs. – but an outstanding innings of 45 from two visits by Llew Jones as Matt Gow and Harry Phillips supported to give Narber a real chance.
But Nigel Delaney’s team kept their cool in the field, as Delaney and Jeyes made amends for their batting errors with tight bowling spells, and all three Narberth batsmen perished in the quest for runs and they fell a tantalising 11 runs short of victory when they still had eight balls left of their ten overs!
F & G Batting: Iwan James 31*, Ashley Ben 12, Rhys Dalling 23*, Extras 14
Narberth Bowling: Loui Davies 1-12, Louis Hough 1-24, Matthew Gow 1-21
Narberth Batting: Llew Jones 45, Matt Gow 12, Kyle Williams 18*
F & G Bowling: Ashish Jeyes 1-7, Nigel Delaney 1-8
Run riot as Narberth showed their true batting strength
Narberth (144 for 1) beat Pembs Seniors B (74 all out) by 70 runs
Narberth were looking strong as they raced to 60 without loss at the half-way mark thanks to undefeated innings by Llew Jones and Harry Phillips before Loui Davies was caught by Rod Murphy off Rob Canton, to give the old timers a little breathing space.
But the onslaught continued as Lewis Hough, top scorer Matt Gow and skipper Kyle Williams even managed to increase the momentum to reach their mammoth score.
The mountain to climb became even higher as Rod Murpy managed just a single and after Mark Davies and Mike Williams settled things down at the expense of an even higher run rate – and after the latter was run out there were few runs from Marc Evans NS Rob Canton before ‘tail-end Charlie’ Kerry Waters batted well alongside opener Davies before he was caught by Phillips off Gow.
Mark Davies did really well to take his score to 35 not out but ran out of overs with his side still a massive 70 runs short of the Narberth total after Loui Davies, Gow and especially Llew Jones looked impressive with the ball.
Narberth Batting: Llew Jones 25*, Harry Phillips 26*, Loui Davies 16, Lewis Hough 23*, Matt Gow 27*, Kyle Williams 18*, Extras 14
Seniors B Bowling: Rob Canton 1-29, Mike Williams 0-21, Kerry Waters 0-26
Seniors A Batting: Mark Davies 35*, Mike Williams 18, Kerry Waters 14
Narberth Bowling: Loui Davies 1-8, Llew Jones 2-9, Matt Gow 1-16, Harry Phillips 0-9
