Haverfordwest County Youth 9 - Llanelli Youth 2

 
Haverfordwest County’s talented young McWhirter League players showed something like their best form as they raced into a 5-0 interval lead against their counterparts from Llanelli and finished up with nine goals to their credit as reward for some cracking football.
 
Small wonder then that coach Steve Batty was pleased with their overall performance because he was without a couple of regulars but their replacements slotted in neatly and played their part in this big win.
 
Central defender Owen Coombs, who played well at the back alongside Dan Harding, Ewan Jones and especially Spencer Williams, was the unlikely early hero as he scored the first two goals from inswinging corners by Lloyd Hughes, the first a powerful header and the second with a low shot after Llanelli failed to clear and Dafydd Bevan played the ball back in.
 
Then Lloyd Hughes thundered home the goal of the match after a good build-up involving Mark Davies, Aidan Rainbow and skipper Joe Brill before Davies added No 4 as he netted at the second attempt after a good save from Llanelli keeper Jack Dale.
 
Dan Evans stopped a low shot from Nick Holmes at the other end but it was mainly one-way traffic as Rainbow ended the half with a good finish.
 
The second half saw Llanelli gain consolation scores from Will Gilberthorpe and Will Davies but the Young Bluebirds stayed well on top as Sean O’Neill scored twice as reward for his running all night, plus second goals for Hughes and Rainbow to complete a good result for Batty’s Boys on an excellent playing surface at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium.
