Two goals in the second half sealed a crucial victory for Haverfordwest County at Monmouth Town in this top of the table clash.

Brothers Darren and Dale Griffiths added the goals for the visitors who have opened up a healthy four point gap at the summit.

Both teams came into this clash desperate not to lose, but Bluebirds manager Wayne Jones was a happy man at the final whistle as his team won for the seventh time this season.

“We knew it would be tough, but were quietly confident if we played to our potential then we could win it, and that’s what happened,” said County manager Jones.

Shaded first period

The visitors shaded the first half, but it was the Kingfishers who came closest to scoring as they struck Craig Morris’ crossbar.

Bluebirds’ striker Jordan Follows missed a sitter when he was set-up inside the box by right back Ricky Watts’ cross. Follows also missed a one-on-one as the score stayed goalless at half time.

Crucial goals

Finally the Bluebirds broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute, Darren Griffiths cut in from the right wing and drilled a low shot that flew in and beat the keeper at the near post.

Eleven minutes later and skipper Dale Griffiths, who was a rock in defence alongside Sam Rodon, doubled his side’s lead with a glancing near post header.

The visitors brought on substitutes Greg Walters, Lewis Holder and Jack Britton as they held on resolutely for a brilliant away win that gives them clear daylight at the top from the chasing pack.
