Haverfordwest County 1 – Rhyl 1

Haverfordwest County came from behind to earn a draw with fellow strugglers Rhyl at the Conygar Bridge Meadow.

The Bluebirds had to win this clash if they were to have a realistic chance of finishing second from bottom, but after going a goal behind they made life hard for themselves, but to their full credit they dug deep and salvaged a point when all could have easily been lost.

Bluebirds settle for a draw with ten-man Rhyl The Bluebirds created the better of the scoring chances in the first period, but it was the Lilywhites who went into half time one goal ahead, rather against the run of play.
The visitors took the lead in the 42nd minute, good work by Ibou Touray set up on-loan team-mate Danny Gossett who drilled in from eight yards.

Chances missed

Before that goal the Bluebirds had created a couple of goal scoring opportunities through Luke Borrelli and Jason Bertorelli, but neither could convert.

In the second half the Bluebirds started brightly, and they were rewarded on the hour mark when Sam Rodon equalised. Declan Carroll headed central midfielder Kieran Howard’s floated free kick straight into the grateful path of Rodon who made no mistake from close range.

Red card

The visitors were reduced to ten men with 20 minutes to go when Lilywhites defender Zac Corbett was issued a straight red card for a rash challenge on Greg Walters.

The Bluebirds were denied a penalty shout when Borrelli was pushed over inside the box and despite ploughing forward in search of a winner that never materialised.

Next Saturday, Haverfordwest County travel to Port Talbot for their final match in the Welsh Premier League.
